Defect Description:

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

The front windshield glue holding it on the car has failed. The windshield can be pushed out completely with only a pinky finger. This should not happen and is very dangerous. This windshield could of came off easily from sudden stopping or collisions and caused serious bodily injury to the driver. Safelite auto glass came out to inspect and replace the window due to this defect. They stated it is a factory installed front windshield and they had never seen anything like it. The windshield started coming off less than a week ago. There were no warnings. We knew there was a problem when we heard wind sound coming in while driving. I have tried to upload a PDF documentation, but the website will not let me upload it.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I bought my 2016 Honda Civic and never had issues with it besides the AC unit not working which was resolved because of the recalls and was repaired by my local dealership. Now I am having issues when it comes to accelerating. There is an accelerating delay/ stall when completing a stop and there’s a delay to get the car to move after pressing on the gas pedal or when reversing when getting out of th driveway. The most dangerous event is when I’m driving and i come to a stop to make a right turn and right after ensuring there is no upcoming traffic to make the right turn my car does not accelerate and it’s very scary because I can get hit by another car. There’s times where I’m driving and the car can turn off. I feel like my life and other drivers life’s are at risk. Honda has recalls for fuel pumps for other year/models but not for mine. I just want to make sure if this is something that can be recalled. Thank you

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My steering wheel sticks when the engine has been warmed up, requiring extra force to begin turning it. This can make small adjustments on the road difficult, and means I have to overcorrect all the time and have trouble staying in my lane. It happens after driving ~20 minutes on warm days (above 70 degrees). The vehicle has been inspected by an independent mechanic, and I was told the only solution is replacing the entire steering rack. No warning lights have come on. This is NOT an isolated incident-- it happens every time the vehicle is driven for 20+ minutes on a warm day, and gets worse the longer it's driven.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

As others have stated, steering becomes very sticky at highway speeds, especially on sweeping curves. When trying to straighten car back out, the steering sticks and requires extra pressure to get the steering wheel to turn. Once it comes free it causes the car to veer in the other direction. It is at times very difficult to put minor corrections into the steering to maintain the car in my lane. Honda dealer says it is the “torque sensor magnet” sticking and would require a steering rack replacement in the neighborhood of $4000. I have been back and forth with Honda corporate and they have denied any extended warranty or customer good will on this issue.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My 18 year old daughter's 2016 Honda Civic has been having problems with her steering wheel where while driving on the highway or driving straight for a while, the steering wheel gets stuck and in order to stop it from sticking, she would have to jerk the car a little bit which causes her to swerve and it is a big problem if it happens while there are other cars around her. I have read numerous articles about this same problem with the same year, make and model of the car.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

My infotainment system has been malfunctioning for roughly 4 year now. I bought my 2016 Honda Civic Touring in 2019 from Hagerstown Kia in Hagerstown Maryland. Several months after I purchased the car, my infotainment randomly does things on its own like back out of navigation apps and return to Home Screen or randomly turn on the blind spot camera. This is a major safety concern for me and other drivers because I have to fool with the infotainment system for several minutes so that I can go back to my navigation screen and know where to go and also be able to control the car’s temperature. This malfunction is very distracting therefore causing potential harm to me or other drivers. I see that there is an ongoing class lawsuit for this exact issue “Constance Chiulli v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., et al., Case No. [XXX] in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.” Next time this malfunction occurs, I will take a video and I can provide that as proof to validate my case. Defect Description:

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Honda knew of an issue with their Electronic Parking Brake system which required a software update per service bulletin 17-007 since January 17, 2017. Honda claims that the issue was not associated with my 2016 Civic Coupe EXL VIN however on Oct 29, 2023 my Civic threw this error which then cost me $112 for the service center to diagnose and an additional $150 for the software update to be installed. Total cost of $262 for an item that Honda knew was an issue and never addressed on my vehicle. This issue creates a dangerous and possibly life threatening situation which Honda is fully aware and should be held liable. American Honda states that my vehicle was not effected however I disagree as the photos and failure occurred. I was expecting more fro Honda.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Steering rack is faulty. Known issue on thousands of 2016 honda civics. Honda told me my battery dying and the sticky steering wheel is from a faulty steering rack and quoted me $4000 to fix it. This car does not even have 80,000 miles on it and it 7 years old. This issue has caused multiple accidents and I have 2 children. I am scared to drive this vehicle. If this is a known faulty steering rack issue why am I subjected to pay out of pocket?

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

After numerous statements regarding issues with the A/C units, it appears there’s an additional item that should be added to the list of recall/extended warranty issues for Honda. The evaporator is now an additional item that is an issue amongst numerous consumers. I’ve had an issue with the evaporator and have been charged a hefty amount for labor by the dealership stating this was the issue. I was not allowed to replace my compressor/condenser, which is strange that those work just fine even with a recall, but suddenly an entirely different part was not working that’s not under warranty. I left the dealership extremely frustrated to be sold a car with faulty equipment that is being called out online and Honda does not show any proactive measures.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Steering wheel sticking at highway speeds when on a curved road or when changing lanes. Might be a loss of power steering. Occurs once or twice in 100 highway miles. Only temporary solution is to jerk the wheel with enough force to unstick it and regain control, which is not safe or ideal. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Loss of control of the vehicle. Departing own lane without intention. Possibility of collision with an adjacent vehicle. Possibility of overcorrection and complete loss of control without ability to regain control, resulting in a single vehicle crash. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, the local Honda dealer wants to charge $150.00 to inspect the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, none.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

My 2016 Honda civic has been having air conditioning issues and this should be repaired by the manufacturer. The issue is with Evaporator Core and the condenser. The Honda dealership inspected the car and made the determination; however, he says that there have not been any recalls issued by Honda for the Evaporator Core. We live in Arizona and it is dangerous to drive a car without a working air conditioner. Please help fix this as I am sure there are a lot more other owners who are having similar A/C issues!
