Recall Date: Sep 27, 2018
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. NHTSA Campaign: 18V266000 SAFETY RECALL
69 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 26, 2018
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Potential Risk:
If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.

Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.

Potential Risk:
The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E.

SEAT BELTS

Potential Consequences:

The seatbelt in our Civic became entangled around our child and locked. The more we tried to get her out, the tighter it became. It was so tight around her waist that it left marks. She unbuckled the seatbelt and let a little more back into the retractor, hoping it would unlock but it only got tighter. We were on vacation and had to find a hardware store to buy a socket set to disconnect the seatbelt from the frame of the car, so at this point has to drive on I-70 with a kid tangled in an unbuckled seatbelt. Once we purchased a socket set, there was plastic obstructing access to the bolt, so we had to then purchase a knife to cut away the plastic to access the bolt. All the while, our kid was tangled up tightly in the seatbelt, squeezing her abdomen. There needs to be an emergency seatbelt lock release button. Had this became tangled around her neck, she could have been seriously hurt or killed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2017 Hatchbacks with the 1.5 liter engine 4 cylinder didn’t get an extended warranty yet all other Hondas with this engine did because of problems but not the hatchback when same parts and same problems I never want to buy a new Honda again . Had to get a coolant flush not soon after I bought it because car was over heating yet that’s all they did never looked by into why and then problem after problem . A night mare buying a new Honda . Seen many videos and read many threads of people with same year and sa b me complaints and I’ve contacted a lot of people and no place knows why the hatchbacks weren’t covered but other cars same engine same problem was. Had to rebuild engine and replace turbo at 103,00 miles after having to replace spark plugs every 7 thousand miles the whole time I owned it and adding coolant to it when dealership said it want a problem and did nothing about it and now at 130000 some miles car just keeps over heating and dealership just told me I need a new engine and wouldn’t tell me why and dealership never been helpful at all. Just look at my car and engine online and all the complaints. Then being told issue is fixed with an ECU update just don’t drive the car short distances with a lot of stop and goes only drive long distances and don’t drive in winter time . I lost it because how is that the problem being fixed . And all the carbon build up is insane. And the oil dilution problem still exists. All these defects and problems with a new car is insane . I figured a new car would be better but of course first new vehicle I buy is a Lemon and all these problems and Honda won’t do right by it . Car also going into what I call limo dick mode in middle of 4 lane high way is dangerous and doing that when car was under 20,000 miles and always has . Also parking brake still messes up even though it was recalled the problem still exists . Him screen occasionally freezes or goes blank or don’t work . Just non stop problems since bought new

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

The steering wheel is sticky. While making directional corrections while driving, especially at highway speeds, the stickiness of the steering wheel causes you to make jercky movements causing you to over correct your cars path, which causes you to make another correction oversteering in the opposite direction. This process continues indefinitely as you drive.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Steering wheel has become very "sticky". Minor steering adjustments are now very hard to make, causing a jerking motion of the wheel while just trying to maintain a straight lane. These kinds of motions can cause safety concerns for those driving the car as well as others on the road as jerky movements can result in crash. I have found several other accounts of this same issue with a very simple internet search. Seems like something Honda needs to fix.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

When driving the car at highway speeds for a number of miles, the steering gets sticky making it hard to maintain lane control. When trying to make minor corrections, the steering wheel will not turn until significant force is used which causes the car to jerk sideways in the lane. This results in having to turn the wheel again to correct again resulting in fighting the steering through the whole drive. The issue is not apparent on short drives or when diving around town making frequent turns. It is only apparent when driving for many miles on the highway. Once it starts, the problem continues until the car is parked for an extended period, such as overnight.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My steering began sticking in the neutral position while driving. It takes some force to "break it loose" which is a bit scary while traveling down the interstate, as it makes the car drift. I have had the steering components inspected and Honda has determined the Steering Rack needs to be replaced due to sticking. There is a recall on 2017 civics, but somehow my VIN is not included. My car is doing the same thing as the existing recall on same year civics. Honda will not voluntarily fix the problem. Is there anything you can do? I have confirmation from Honda dealer that the problem exists and can provide that documentation to you upon request.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the persistent issue of "sticky steering" in my Honda Civic, which is attributable to a malfunction in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. Since the purchase of my Civc, I have experienced recurring difficulties with the steering, characterized by stiffness and unresponsiveness. This issue poses a significant safety concern as it affects the vehicle's handling and maneuverability, especially during tight turns or emergency situations. Upon investigation, it has been determined that the problem lies within the EPS system, likely due to faulty sensors, wiring issues, or malfunctioning components such as the EPS motor or control module.

Upon investigation, it has been determined that the problem lies within the EPS system, likely due to faulty sensors, wiring issues, or malfunctioning components such as the EPS motor or control module.

Additional Notes:

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the persistent issue of "sticky steering" in my Honda Civic, which is attributable to a malfunction in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My steering wheel starts almost locking into a groove when driving. It will happen after 10 minutes or so of driving and it is most noticeable like when trying to stay straight in a lane, like when trying to make minor adjustments left or right, it feels like the steering wheel will stick, causing it to jerk more in the direction I'm trying to steer, which causes slight over steering and having to correct back the other direction. It's random and usually happens on drives longer than 5 minutes, but once it starts doing it, it stays that way till I'm done driving.
