Recall Date: Sep 27, 2018
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. Potential Risk:
The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

NHTSA Campaign: 18V266000 SAFETY RECALL
69 Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 26, 2018
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles. Driver and front passenger seatback pads sold as replacement service parts were made without slit openings for the seat-mounted side air bags. In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 214, "Side Impact Protection."

Potential Risk:
If the seat-mounted air bags cannot not deploy correctly in the event of a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is E1D, U1B, and X1C.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Recall Date: Nov 9, 2017
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.

Potential Risk:
The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E.

The paint began flaking off in dime size chunks after a car wash. primarily around the back windshield but also around the gas door cover. I brought it to a body shop to be checked on. They said this was a common thing they see in civics from 2017, and it is a manufacturing defect.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

While driving the steering is “sticking” and feels like there is tension while driving on a straight road and trying to keep the the vehicle straight. The tension in the steering wheel is overcome while trying to keep it straight causing the vehicle to jerk in that direction. You must react in the opposite direction to avoid collision which causes it to jerk in the other direction. It happens at all speeds and most noticeably at 40+ mph making it very concerning to drive and difficult to control the vehicle. My concern is that the vehicle will lose control completely at some point due to this issue.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Sudden loss of acceleration. CVT Transmission failure. Vehicle has been single owner and properly maintained, only 72K miles on it. There have been no issues with the transmission up to this incident. Pulling out of a parking lot the car revved and seemed like it wasn't going into gear. Car came to a complete stop in the middle of the road and could not move in any gear. We had it towed to the garage and they confirmed that the transmission oil was completely burnt and that the transmission needed replaced, which they agreed was completely premature.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There is a short in the BCM (body control module). This causes massive parasitic drain on my battery of over an amp (roughly 1.2 amps typically). I have to pull the fuse for it (fuse 18 in the engine bay fuse box) every time I leave my car off for more than a couple hours. I'm extremely worried this short is going to cause either a fire or one of the important functional systems of my car to stop working while I'm driving. I have read MANY other reports of this happening to other 2017 Honda Civics yet Honda hasn't done anything about it.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Steering is “sticking” or momentarily locking. Going straight then initiating a turn, the steering sticks momentarily until it finally “breaks loose”. Results in over-controlling and having to do almost S-turns while trying to keep the car straight. More apt to do so at higher speeds and the traveling faster does exacerbate the over-controlling (over-steering) conditions.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Steering wheel "sticks." I has been doing it since around 40,000 miles. It has gotten worse with time. While driving in straight line after it warms up the steering wheel does not move when trying to make micro adjustments and then when it does it jerks and causes the driver to overcompensate. Makes driving very tiring and unsafe. It is difficult to keep the car driving straight when tis happens. I can see there have been recalls regarding this problem with newer Civics, like 22-23, but mine has been doing it and it is a 2017. Last time it happened was recently while my drive was driving and I was out of town on 3/15/24.

This is a known issue for this engine. But why does it affect abs, traction control, wiper sensor, auto high beam detection. , all of the lane assist , cruise control, early warning crash detection? This can be dangerous when you can’t quickly get the car into a dealership. And if it’s know issue they need a recall or free fix.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I am the original owner of a 2017 Honda civic ex . Recently I have been experiencing a "sticky steering wheel". When driving the car will veer to the left or right. The steering wheel feels stuck and causing over correction and erratic jerky car movements. There is also a clicking sound when moving the steering wheel out of the "stuck" position. I see this has been an ongoing problem with the Honda civics on the 2016 -2023 models with over a half million recalled in 2022 -2023. Honda of America says that there is no recall for my VIN number and until the NHTSA says so that they will not take any action for this ongoing safety problem and I will have to pay for any repairs.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

My steering wheel seems to feel like it kind of locks up and is hard to release, causing me to yank slightly. It hasn't caused an incident yet, but I believe it will at some point if not checked. I'm going to get it checked out once I have some available time. I do see where 2022- 2023 have possible recalls for a similar issue that sounds exactly like what is happening on mine. This has been doing it for quite some time and doesnt seem to be improving. I only have 67000 miles on my car. Please be aware, thank you. Defect Description:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The Civic idles low after coming to a stop. Idles approximately 500 rpm’s. Periodically it will drop below 500 and stall. About 3 occurrences so far. Once at 500, there is no throttle response. The pedal can be fully depressed and the motor will continue to idle. Throttle response will occur anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds later. My work around is to take the car out of DRIVE and put it back. This solves problem. Mostly. I may have to do that a second time. Reverse is different. The car doesn’t move at all 100% of the time. And it takes me to move in and out of Reverse to get it to move. There are occasions that the throttle will activate. But, if you lift off the throttle…. It won’t engage. Below asks when this happens. It began over a year ago. I would depress the throttle and could count to 3 before going. Now it’s longer than 10. But, since I’ve learned about taking the car out of gear.
