Just started, while driving in high winds: electrical power steering problem, vehicle stability assist problem, hill start assist problem, trailer stability assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, emissions system problem. Brake system warning light is also on. I don’t have a towing system installed- so that’s odd to get a warning for trailer stability. I had an oil change @ 101076 miles, on 19 November 2024, and my tires were rotated at that time. This issue repeated itself today, 21 November 2024.

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired for an unidentified NHTSA Campaign Number however, it failed to prevent a failure from occurring. The contact stated that while the key was in the ignition, the vehicle had failed to start and several unknown warning lights had illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the fuel pump was replaced however the repair failed to prevent a failure. On another occasion; the contact stated while attempting to accelerate from a stop light intersection, the vehicle failed the accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal and failed to switch gears into Neutral to push it out of the roadway. The vehicle was towed back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine fuel pump needed to be replaced again however, the warranty was expired. The vehicle was repaired out of pocket. In addition, the contact was adamant that the failure reoccur every 2 years after repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My car has the following recall #23V-858. I am aware that Honda has issues with sourcing the replacement part. I called when receiving the first notification in Feb 2024 and was told this. I checked again when receiving the 2nd notification in May 2024 and was told the same, difficulty sourcing the required part. I recently have started to notice issues with the car which point to this problem, hesitation and uneven fuel supply. I contacted the local Honda Dealer, Ron Bouchards Honda Store, Lancaster, MA and after escalating the issue with customer service they scheduled an appointment to address the issue. When scheduling they informed me that they would charge $180 service fee. The reason I escalated this issue was that it is not a service issue but a recall issue. Can NHTSA help in addressing this issue? It makes no sense that a recall must be paid for by a consumer when the problem exists for the owner. Thank you for you assistance. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was driving on the interstate when the entire dashboard of my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite with 76,014 miles on it lit up with every light / warning possible. The vehicle began to sputter and stall. I was forced to pull off to the shoulder of a busy highway. I was able to slow sputter to the next exit while traveling on the shoulder to get myself off the busy highway. After getting 3 diagnostic testings completed… it was determined that the problem was within the engine. Specifically the cam shaft and cam shaft sensor. The sensor was scratched / scrapped due to “play” in the cam shaft. It was explained to me that this has been a common occurrence with Honda Pilots, particularly 2019. It cost a total of $3,657.94 for the repairs with labor included. They provided me with the parts that were replaced because they felt that eventually a recall would be announced due to the problem being so wide spread.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Honda Pilot has a known issue covered by American Honda TSB Technical Service Bulletin of "Judder" from the transmission. This issue is identified by a extreme and unsafe surging of the powertrain/transmission at all speeds and in all driving conditions. The event happened to us with this vehicle and makes for unsafe operation as the "Judder" presents as a lack of acceleration or lack of control. In heavy or light traffic this is not a desirable attribute of a vehicle to have sudden acceleration or deceleration without input from the driver. It is as if the vehicle has a mind of its own. This is covered by numerous Technical Service Bulletins and identified by our local Honda Dealer as TSB/Judder. The correct fix is a Triple Flush of the Transmission and Reprograming of the Transmission with more frequent transmission flushes than are recommended by the owners manual. NOT ALL VIN numbers are covered by the TSB for Judder and Honda pretends that not all Honda Pilots similarly equipped are affected by this dangerous condition. Instead the Honda dealership service department representatives identify the problem, admit it is a problem and then admit they know the solution and it is a known TSB, they then pretend some VIN are not included as if they are "safe" when they know that they are not "safe". NHTSA should investigate and force American Honda to recall or TSB all VIN for this Judder issue. It is unsafe and unsettling.

Potential Consequences:

UNKNOWN. In August 2023, I've noticed a noise, not sure where it was coming from- the wheels, engine etc. Brought my 2019 Honda Pilot into the dealership to get it checked out but the problem couldn't be replicated. The noise is still occurring as of this writing Nov. 12, 2024 and I'm still very concerned for my safety as it maybe possibly linked to the connecting rod bearing failure issue, which my vehicle was not included in the recall list. Sincerely, Concerned Valued Honda Customer
