Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling all Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Covers, part number 08Z07-T6Z-100F, sold for installation on 2017-2020 Ridgeline trucks. If the tonneau cover is not properly secured in the open or closed position, wind resistance may cause the cover to flip and buckle. If this occurs, the hinges between the center and rear panel may deform, possibly allowing the rear panel to separate from the vehicle.

AT APPROXIMATELY 59K +/- THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND BLIND SPOT SYSTEM LIGHT ON MY 2017 HONDA RIDGELINE CAME ON AND WENT OFF WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED. THIS PHENOMENON WAS REPEATED TWICE BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AT 61K +/-. THE COMPLAINT WAS NOTED, CHECKED, AND AFTER A $998.19 SERVICE BILL, NO PROBLEMS OR FAULTS COULD BE LOCATED. AT 62K +/- BOTH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE RIDGELINE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. MULTIPLE POSTS INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH A PINCHED CABLE AT THE HINGE OF THE TAILGATE THAT SEVERS THE WIRES. I LOOKED WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DESCRIBED AND FOUND THE CABLE PINCHED AND SEVERED. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE REP WAS NOT SURPRISED AND TOLD ME THAT ONCE IT WAS FIXED, I WOULD NEVER HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CABLE AGAIN. $870 DOLLARS LATER, I AM INCLINED TO BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. THESE BACK-UP CAMERAS ARE SAFETY FEATURES THAT ARE NOW CONSIDERED STANDARD EQUIPMENT IN MOST NEW CARS. I CAN ATTEST TO THEIR EFFICACY, ESPECIALLY EXPERIENCING WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE BACK-UP CAMERA.
