Recall Date: Sep 17, 2020
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling all Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Covers, part number 08Z07-T6Z-100F, sold for installation on 2017-2020 Ridgeline trucks. If the tonneau cover is not properly secured in the open or closed position, wind resistance may cause the cover to flip and buckle. If this occurs, the hinges between the center and rear panel may deform, possibly allowing the rear panel to separate from the vehicle.

Potential Risk:
A separated panel may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify all registered owners of 2017-2020 Honda Ridgelines, and dealers will install tethers onto any Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Cover to prevent panel separation and apply warning labels, free of charge. In addition, an updated accessory user's information manual will be provided. The recall began October 26, 2020. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. 5.8K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Apr 5, 2018
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018 Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles and 2018 Acura MDX vehicles. The front driver and passenger powered seats in the Honda vehicles and the driver powered seats in the Acura vehicles may have been assembled with improperly manufactured rivets. In the event of a crash, the rivets can break causing the seats not to be secured to the floor. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems," and 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Potential Risk:
In the event of a crash, if the seat does not remain secured to the floor, the seat occupant has an increased risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat frame assembly in Acura MDX vehicles, and replace the driver and front passenger seat slide rail frames in Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles, free of charge. The recall began May 30, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall is D0S, and T0T.

Defect Description:

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Potential Consequences:

Backup camera failed at 65k miles. Upon researching issue, found that this is a common problem amongst Ridgeline owners, generally right after the warranty period is over. The indicated cause, according to the research, is broken wires in the wiring harness due to regular use of the tailgate. The Honda dealer confirmed this diagnosis and wanted $600+ to replace the wiring harness. After discussing with them and pointing out the common-ness of this problem, they agreed to cover the cost this one time, but stated that the wiring harness wouldn't be routed any differently, so probability of recurrence of the issue is high. Obviously, I was unable to use the backup camera during this issue, so this is a safety problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My 2018 Honda Ridgeline pickup has a backup camera which became nonfunctional in June 2022. Upon inspection the wiring harness at the back gate pivot point has broken as the gate has been opened over time, disabling the backup camera - the display is now black when the vehicle is in reverse. This has made it difficult to accurately back the vehicle up, and puts pedestrians, pets and other objects at risk as it is impossible to see directly behind the truck when backing. The dealer has confirmed this wiring harness failure, and has quoted me $2,000 to repair the wiring harness. The vehicle is scheduled for repair, but I would not expect this failure to occur this early in the vehicle's duty cycle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Several times now, the alarm of the vehicle has gone off in the middle of the night for no reason. The key access remotes does not respond to the commands properly after replacing them with new batteries. After several different combinations to set the alarm off, the vehicle is continuing to make electrical circuit noises, flashing the dashboard with potential risk of fire and damages to computer, plus creating the possibility of a heart attack to those nearby. The only solution to keep the alarm of is leaving one door unlocked. The vehicle reflected the Keyless start system problem light for many hours. However, the dealership "couldnt" replicate the issue and gave back the vehicle. The vehicle continues to malfunction & could cause an accident, fire while driving or theft, given known issues that Honda Corp doesn't want to recognize as manufactures' issues. There is a Technical Bulletin addressing 2016 & 2017 Honda Ridgelines (Service Bulletin 20-117), noting an extended warranty coverage & the requirement to replace different aspects. However, for 2018 to 2019 Honda Ridgelines, despite reporting the same issues as the 2016-2017 Ridegelines, the Technical Bulletin notes to check the alarm registry & complete replacement at the customer expense (Service Bulletin 21-055);no recalls or extended warraty. An investigation should be completed to ensure customers' safety

Additional Notes:

Several times now, the alarm of the vehicle has gone off in the middle of the night for no reason. The key access remotes does not respond to the commands properly after replacing them with new batteries. After several different combinations to set the alarm off, the vehicle is continuing to make electrical circuit noises, flashing the dashboard with potential risk of fire and damages to computer, plus creating the possibility of a heart attack to those nearby. The only solution to keep the alarm of is leaving one door unlocked. The vehicle reflected the Keyless start system problem light for many hours. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 2018 Honda Ridgeline began to make a loud knocking noise from the lower motor. I bought this vehicle last June with 47k miles on it. The vehicle has prompted me twice to change the oil. Both times I changes the oil myself within two days of the car warning stating I had 15% life of the oil. At the same time as the indicator light lit I began to notice the knocking sound. I change the oil the very next morning only to find the noise getting louder. The car is at the dealer now and the dealer is fighting me tooth and nail not to cover the work. They made me financially responsible to tare down the motor and find the root cause of the engine failure. Im literally paying them to find whatever excuse they can to not cover the repairs. They are sending out an adjustor to assess the engine parts and take oil samples. At that point a report will be sent to Honda stating the findings. They are asking for my oil change receipts that I unfortunately do not have. I have used OEM filters and reset the on-board computer with each oil change. OfCourse Honda claims they cannot retrieve this information from the on-board computers that I find hard to believe. The vehicle has approximately 64k miles on it and has had a recall completed for a malfunctioning fuel pump that leaks fuel into the oil. Did the repair get done in time to prevent this issue? The issue ever truly get resolved. The warrantee is a Honda Certified warrantee that covers the vehicle for 100k or 7 years. Furthermore, Honda has extended the warrantee on the fuel system to 150k acknowledging there are fuel issues with the vehicle. I even found a you tube video stating the exact problem. The video goes on to say that the oil should be changed more often to prevent viscosity breakdown. If that's the case, why wouldn't they just do an upgrade to the onboard systems to prompt you to change the oil more frequently? This whole time I am left without a vehicle. What if the engine locked up causing an accident

Defect Description:

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Potential Consequences:

Failure of backup camera wire harness at tail gate hinge area. 2018 Ridgeline at approx 26,000 miles, light duty use. Backup camera became intermittent, then failed. Dealership service said harness has failed, no kidding. Wire harness has sheared in area due to opening tailgate…….this is a two direction tailgate, drop down and swing out. Wire harness wires been sheared, cable protective jacket has been cut due to normal opening operation. As a engineer with many years of experience in medical device manufacturing; this is clearly a defect related to weak construction, poor harness routing and mis-assembly. Overall, a extremely poor design…….leading to premature failure…this should have not been allowed…..…this is a SAFETY ISSUE due to lack of backup camera……there is already a class action law suit in process in the state of California for this very issue. It needs to be fixed by the manufacturer………and all Ridgeline owners made whole, accordingly………
