FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the RVC tailgate wire harness, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed November 8, 2024. Owners may contact Honda service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is YI7.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The transmission is shifting out of gear and into nuetral while starting to drive and while driving. There is a fault code stating “stop driving when safe, transmission issue, see manual” I have provided videos and the techs at Honda have confirmed the issue. Honda states there is no current correction. Honda has had 2 attempts to repair. Driving under these conditions is unsafe for traffic and road conditions. Honda states no drive ability issues. I was told by a service advisor that this will lead to transmission failure and to bring it back when that happens. Issue started 12/9/2024.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I have been getting recall notices and each time I've called (beginning of the recall and just now dec 11th) My Honda location has told me Honda has not released the the parts yet another notice will be sent to advise when they will be available for repair. This is very frustrating as I have time now for the repair to be done and I'm not always available for this process , so nothing has been on a timely manner as this has been ongoing for months and months now. I've not had any accidents YET!

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

After driving on an interstate or four lane road for a while (cold weather) when I pull off an exit and start to accelerate the truck has no power and the check engine light is on. The dealer tells me that the engine goes into a safety mode so that it is not doing any damage to the engine. I have to safely pull over and shut truck off and it must reset computer. My problem is you do not know there is no power until you pull out on the road that may have 55 mph traffic coming and there is no power to accelerate. I have had this happen four- five times and had in for repairs three time hoping truck is fixed. Dealer says they have adjusted something. First happen 2/2023 after having truck for a few weeks.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Potential Consequences:

The auto dimming feature on headlights fails to function. When the high beams are in use, they will not dim when approaching an oncoming vehicle. Conversely, when they are on low beam, they do not switch to high beam setting when it is totally dark outside and no cars are approaching. This fault was not disclosed during initial test drive and the dealerships only explanation is that they are sorry, but it can’t be fixed.

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle is equipped with auto dimming headlights. The system is way too sensitive and dims headlights on reflected road signs and distant street lights. Honda says it is working properly. It is basically worthless and very distracting because when driving through a neighborhood with no other cars around it dims and brightens constantly. Honda says there is no way to adjust sensitivity! Previously I believe you could. 2020 Ridgelines worked perfectly?

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

Multiple issues that are safety concerns. 1. The lane mitigation system or forward collision warning system. These has been a constant problem from date of purchase. A. repeated warning flashes on dash when driving on any type of road with a slight curve or a standard turn, also two lane roads causes terrible warning on the dash as well. Very distracting! 2. The adaptive cruise control performs a hard brake/ing when another driver enters into my lane (in front of me) which causes other drivers entering into or following me to also make evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting my vehicle. People think I'm brake checking them. Constant problem and is a serious safety issue. 3. This is also a huge problem and can cause the police to be citing me for a distracted driver violation. My infotainment system has connectivity issue and is very distracting which is a safety issue. example: If I can get my phone connected correctly (constant connectivity issues typically at start up) while driving the infotainment system disconnects randomly and typically will not reconnect unless I stop my vehicle and turn it off so to reset the system. I am a CDL driver and touching or operating an electronic device (cell phone) will cause me to be cited by the police department, this has distracting me regularly. Honda is unwilling to do a software update to remedy these problems and I am gracefully asking for your help. We have spent 46K on a vehicle so we can have these safety features and this vehicle as been the opposite of safe. Super distracting and stressful to drive. I have spoken to the dealership four separate times about these issues but I recently found out by Honda that only one did the dealership document my concerns.

Additional Notes:

Multiple issues that are safety concerns. 1. The lane mitigation system or forward collision warning system. These has been a constant problem from date of purchase. A. repeated warning flashes on dash when driving on any type of road with a slight curve or a standard turn, also two lane roads causes terrible warning on the dash as well. Very distracting! 2. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The Ridgeline is unsafe with the mirror tilting and moving when in reverse. Mirrors need to be adjusted every time I go in reverse. EVERYTIME. This is unsafe as the mirror not only fails to stay static or wherever I adjust it to. It drops down (the mirror) every time I put the truck in reverse. The Ridgeline is unsafe when I back up, the mirrors move and distort and defeat the whole purpose of a mirror rendering it ineffective and a huge safety hazard. The Ridgeline is unsafe when the truck lunges forward when placing in park, after reverse. I suppose it is trying to get the mirror back to the Orginal position which needs to be adjusted back every-time. The mirror is not static. When placing in drive after reverse the lunge is not only jarring to my neck and back, it is completely unsafe. In my lay opinion what I think is happening is the truck’s computer is waiting for the mirrors to return to their position, but then are out of focus requiring me to pull over to readjust the mirror every time I back up. This is extremely unsafe especially in tight environments like parking spaces (backing out. Parking. Adjusting mirror to correct and safe position. Then proceeding with my trip). This is impractical in some situations and thus ineffectual in all others. Coupled with a wiring harness failure in cold temps for mirror, cameras are ineffective as well. I live in Minnesota and we have extreme winters. The harness issue is a previously recalled issue. But it is only compounded by these other issues.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 MPH, several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. In addition, the contact stated while at a stop, the transmission shifted into neutral independently. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer and was diagnosed with a software error and the computer was restarted. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer where it remained awaiting further diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
