Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Elantra, 2019-2021 Kona and Veloster vehicles equipped with 2.0L Nu MPI engines. The piston oil rings may not have been properly heat-treated, which could result in engine damage.

Potential Risk:
A damaged engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, oil may leak onto hot exhaust components, increasing the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine, free of charge. In addition, Hyundai will deploy Piston Ring Noise Sensing System (PNSS) software. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V301000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer who stated that the vehicle would not be repaired until November. The contact was informed about obtaining a loaner vehicle at a discount. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 50,400. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact stated that the dealer completed an unknown recall repair on the vehicle however, when she picked up the vehicle from the dealer and was driving 30 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled. Several warning lights including the check engine warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that she turned off the vehicle and was able to restart it after several attempts. The contact drove back to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred while driving. Hyundai pohanka of Fredericksburg did not inform me of the engine recall. And tried to blame all problems that happened with the vehicle on myself. Sludge had built up in the engine due to the recall and damaged all timing components and are making me pay to fix it even tho it should have been covered due to the recall they never informed me about

Potential Consequences:

The brake system of my vehicle failed completely when I was attempting to reduce my speed and exit the freeway. I exited through a red light and hit the light pole at freeway speed. Seconds later the cars to my right hit my car causing it to flip over. People involved in the collision got off to help me flip the car back over and by doing so my wrist broke. I also suffered from extreme whiplash.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:BULBS

Potential Consequences:

The high beams just stop working. I bring the car to the dealer on March and the dealer said “ order the parts “… I call the dealer 5 times and the guys told me they don’t receive the parts! After 5 month don’t receive the parts? That’s ridiculous… My 2 high beams are dead and I need it!!! I drive in the night and for me is a safety issue because there’s not light in the road I need to take for work.

Corrective Action:

The high beams just stop working. I bring the car to the dealer on March and the dealer said “ order the parts “… I call the dealer 5 times and the guys told me they don’t receive the parts!
