STEERING

Potential Consequences:

The roads were icy and my son pulled over to wait out the storm. Our car was parked. Another car slid on the ice and stuck our Hyundai Palisade in the rear. It was a minor impact, no airbags deployed and nobody was injured. The steering column sheered off and the steering wheel was cut loose from the column. Hyundai has an open recall campaign on a similar model (NHTSA campaign #18V118000) for this exact problem of steering wheels sheering from the column. Hyundai sent an investigator to check the car and reports to me that there is no defect with my car. The insurance company is planning to repair the car, including the steering assembly, and return it to me. It is hard to believe that this incident, which occurred on a car built just a few months after the models that were recalled, could be a coincidence. There was no prior warning. The car is now at body repair shop and is available for inspection.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

Front wipers stop unexpectedly operating when in moderate snow conditions. Wipers will not operate again for 3-4 minutes, leaving driver stranded on roadway. The dealer, after consultation with Hyundai tech support, says it appears the motor overheats but replacing it with a new motor will not solve the problem. The have not replaced it to verify that position. As the owner, this is a scary and dangerous situation when it occurs and appears that the motor overheats prematurely and then requires time to cool off. Problem has occurred 4 times. The fact that neither the dealer nor the manufacturer have responded with a solution

Potential Consequences:

at 30K miles, the car started to make loud noises when driving over speed bumps, the smallest of road variations. Dealer detected the issue until Hyundai executives were contacted. Then, the dealer changed their story and confirmed the shocks on the car need to be redesigned in reinstalled and it's becoimg a national/ international problem. They are talking about the rear shocks only and not including the front . The issue with the shocks are wide spread and being discussed on the multiple forums. Very concerned about potential and major damage to the tires/car that can cause major accidents. .

Potential Consequences:

Windshield cracks easily. It is a known issue and Hyundai has yet to recall it. Will have had to replace my windshield twice in two years for incidents that should have resulted in no crack or a small crack. Kia has addressed the issue on the Palisade's sister vehicle, the Telluride but Hyundai has not even offered to replace them for free or reimburse owner costs when they have made a faulty part. It's hazardous and costly and should have been recalled immediately for the safety of their drivers.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

2020 Hyundai Palisade purchased in May, 2020, amid COVID shutdown, and not driven as much as normal until September, 2020. In February, 2021 was driving along a 4-lane parkway (speed limit 55) and something struck the windshield. All other vehicles were at least 2 car lengths away and the sound of the strike sounded like an insect hitting the windshield. What resulted was a nickel sized, spidery crack on the passenger side, about a third of the way from the top. When Safelite attempted to repair this, it immediately spread out as they applied pressure while installing their equipment. Windshield had to be replaced (Hyundai glass used). August, 2021 car was being driven on 6-lane interstate (65mph) when a large rock struck the lower part of the passenger side of windshield. Large crack resulted which immediately spread across windshield, necessitating another windshield replacement (3rd party glass used). A week later, on 4-lane highway, while 2+ car lengths behind a semi, it sounded as if the car was being sprayed by sand followed by a loud pop. What resulted was a small crack at the edge of the passenger side which quickly spread horizontally until making an upward turn which slowed its progress. After waiting 6 weeks for a replacement (Hyundai glass) to come in, windshield was replaced for 3rd time on 11/2/21. Less than 24 hours later, while driving in traffic on 10-lane section of interstate (60mph), a loud pop occurred resulting in a nickel-sized, spidery chip in about the same location as the first instance. If history holds true, this will probably necessitate another windshield replacement. Having driven all of these same roads for 25+ years, prior to this vehicle, I have only had 2 other windshield chips, both which were repairable. 4 windshield replacements within 9 months is indicative of a design flaw.

Windshield crack appeared near the roof line just to the drivers side of the rear view mirror and traveled immediately ~18 inches diagonally towards the passenger wiper blade. The car was hand washed the day prior and no cracks/chips were evident.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

I walked out to my vehicle in the driveway this morning and the windshield was cracked for no apparent reason. There were no visible chips near the crack. Crack extended from lower Driver's side corner upwards and across to almost the center-line. I also had to previously repair two chips in the windshield that did not appear to be from debris damage. It would appear that the windshield is defective as installed at the factory.

Potential Consequences:

While driving in heavy rains , check engine light comes up and vehicle starts vibrating. Once the vehicle is stopped and restarted the light & vibration goes away. This happened twice in 2 months ( July & aug 2021) and while driving in Interstate. I did report to the dealer/service manager after the first time and they were not able to pull up any logs/codes from the vehicle computers. The second time, it happened, I took the photo of the same. First time it occured when I had about 17500 miles on the vehicle. Second time it was 19643 miles. Both times it was raining heavily and speed was between 40- 50 miles/hour
