Safety Issue:

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle is burning oil excessively. I have measured this precisely. I have had to add oil five times since July 25, 2021 and it is not February 5, 2022. Each time the consumption got worse. The consumption as been 2076, 1732, 1271, 1120, and 1000 miles per quart. I am afraid that my engine will eventually fail while I am driving possibly stopping the vehicle in the middle of the freeway, creating a hazard for myself and others. This could result in a serious accident. I have found on the internet that many other persons are experiencing the same exact issue. Please force Hyundai to recall the engines that are failing and replace them with engines that do not fail. Since July the vehicle has been driven 6286 miles and currently has only 49990 miles.

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal knocking noise would emit from the vehicle as the check engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel. One day as the contact was driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began shaking as the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who discovered that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The contact's friend attempted to replace the spark plugs; however, he discovered oil on the spark plugs and informed the contact it was a major concern. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a claim number and referred to a dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it remained in their possession for a month. The manufacturer later denied his claim and he was given an estimate for the repair. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Purchased a new car from Plaza Hyundai dealership in Brooklyn NY 5/25/2019, had problems a year later but due to covid, dealership wasn't open. Called Hyundai Consumer affairs May 2020 as I also found out there was an open recall that was supposed to be done with the ecm & cluster update-engine monitoring logic product improvement for Santa Fes from 2011-2019. There was and still is an open recall listed from 08/09/2018 that the car was still at Plaza Hyundai dealership for. In 2020, I was told that a buyback wasn't possible due to there not being any record of active recalls. On September 22, 2021, our car broke down on the highway, with it being the engine issue that is currently on recall. We have an unusable car still being paid for, a car that shouldn't have been sold to us because it was on recall, a car that should've been buyback but wasn't due to greed, and no answers as Hyundai is saying that the buyback period has ended since the first use was February 2018, even though we became owners of the car 5/25/2019. The component that failed was the engine. Its currently in Plaza Hyundai's service lot. Our safety was put at risk not once but twice, but the most recent being 9/21/2021, we were on a major highway at 70mph when the engine started to slow down, smoke, and vibrate violently. The vehicle is currently being serviced for parts, but they don't think its the engine. There were previous issues but I would have to recollect on the memory of when.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS

Potential Consequences:

Early 2020, I had multiple reports that my driver side brake light was not functioning properly/off when I brake. I replaced the brake light bulb in summer 2020. Not long thereafter, I heard the same complaint from other drivers who noticed and were able to notify me while at a stop. I had it checked at a local oil change shop and they found nothing wrong. This year, I was told at separate times that it was not turning on. A couple of days ago, I had someone I knew report that the night brake lights function but when I brake, the driver side light is off. It could be an internal wiring issue or something else I can't reach. Either way, it is a brand new car I bought and should not experience issues this early. The earliest they can get my car into the dealership service department is November 16, 2021.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On 9/22/21, was driving on a major highway when gears started spinning loudly, acceleration went down to 30mph from 65mph, car started vibrating and smoke coming from the exhaust. Made it safely to the next exit without incident by a prayer and slowly made our way to a Hyundai dealer at 5-10mph, any faster would shut down the car. We barely made it and tow truck came and towed it to original dealer that sold it to us. Previously we told them about the recall update but it went on deaf ears from the dealer and Hyundai. Now we don't have a car, and most likely needs a new engine.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

The Pearl White paint is chipping from the hood of my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The issue is getting worse, with new chipped spots appearing monthly. This should not be an issue with a vehicle that is garage kept and barely 3 years old. This is due to poor paint quality and Hyundai should assume responsibility for correcting this painting defect. This issue is rampant across the country and significantly impacts a consumer's resale value.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

First my car started consuming and alarming amont of oil at 40000 to 50000 miles in 2020. I have been put through 3 oil consumption test and every 1,000 miles i took it in it was consuming more oil. One time it had lost 4 quart of oil in 1,000 miles with no oil leaks detected. They never did anything about it. Early 2021 While i was on the highway in traffic going 70 miles per hour. Mile car started to sputter and slowed down to 30 miles per hour in the middle of the highway at night. I was so afraid that i would be hit. Another time it slowed down on the highway 1 day after i got an oil change and i was out of town on a sunday. The car was struggling to get up a highway hill at 25 miles an hour with other cars going well over the 70 mile speed limt. I was terrified. The dealer finally admitted that the engin is bad but Hyundai will not replace it. Help please!!!!!
