Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017 Tucson and Sonata Hybrid vehicles. The connecting rod bearings inside the engine may wear prematurely, which can result in engine damage.

A damaged engine can increase the risk of a fire or it can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the engine. If bearing damage is found, the engine will be replaced. Dealers will also install a software update containing a new Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owners were notified of the defect on November 16, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed January 15, 2022. Recall Date: Sep 4, 2020
Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalled certain 2019-2021 Tucson vehicles on September 4, 2020. On December 30, 2020, Hyundai expanded the recall population, and added certain 2016-2018 Tucson vehicles. 6.2K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Nov 21, 2016
Safety Issue:

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Tucson vehicles manufactured May 19, 2015, to November 14, 2016, and 2017 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured November 28, 2015, to November 14, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness that, due to a malfunction of the tow hitch module, may result, in the trailer brake lights being constantly illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine light came on and then went off twice so I checked the dipstick and there was no oil on it. So went to Express Oil Change and they ended up performing oil change- but there was none in it. Car could have stalled. Yes. I have to keep going to having oil added to keep the car running. There isn’t a leak anywhere, yet the oil level keeps dropping. I took to a Hyundai dealership and they told me they would perform oil consumption test but then called the next day (after I left my car there) and said they would not do it because I am the second owner. No. Yes. Engine light came on but when back off two times within the same hour which prompted me to check the oil.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, an abnormal knocking sound was coming from the vehicle with the vehicle hesitating upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a code reader determined there was a defect in engine cylinder #2. The contact had the coil pack and spark plugs replaced. Several weeks later, the failure returned, and the vehicle was taken to a second independent mechanic. The mechanic determined that the engine bolts on the manifold and the turbo charger had blown. The contact was informed that a further diagnostic test was needed to determine the extent of the damage to the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to a local dealer. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the mechanic confirmed the failure and informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Potential Consequences:

As I was turning a corner the transmission seemed to disengaged; when I attempted to accelerate the car would not respond. It felt as though the car had shifted into neutral even though it is an automatic transmission and I had not made any adjustment. Very dangerous in I was in sn intersection and traffic behind and around me had no indication that my car had lost all power to move on its own accord. There could very likely have been collisions.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Since I was notified of this recall on November 16, 2021, I have diligently followed the instructions provided, and my vehicle has been taken to a Hyundai service center for inspection and necessary repairs. However, I am deeply disappointed and concerned that despite the recall and subsequent corrective actions, my vehicle has continued to experience persistent issues related to the engine. I have experienced several engine problems, including repeated transmission replacements (twice) and dual-clutch replacements (three times), which have had a significant impact on the overall performance and safety of my vehicle. The frequency of these issues and the potential consequences, including engine stalling and increased risk of accidents, are alarming. I understand that Hyundai has taken measures to address the recall issue, but it appears that the corrective actions have not resolved the problem in my vehicle. Given the seriousness of the engine-related concerns outlined in the recall, I strongly believe that my vehicle's issues should be thoroughly investigated, and the necessary steps should be taken to ensure my safety and reliability.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

My concern is who is going to pay for the damage to my car? I initiated a claim with Hyundai due to my car malfunctioning at a stoplight, the light turned green and I gently pressed the accelerator and it lurched forward and smashed into the car in front of me. I had taken my car in multiple times telling them the accelerator sticks and hesitates. Each time they told me nothing was wrong with it. I researched online and I found many people were having this same issue with the accelerator in the 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I was also told there is a software update available to help with this. The service department at the Dealership said there is not one. I have an appointment with the Hyundai service department on 12/20, I need to know who is going to pay for my car.

Potential Consequences:

THE CAR STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION DO NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 60 miles per hour and turned on the signal the engine and to get to 60 mph it goes slow little by little without strength since it only reaches 2000 rpm it does not go higher than there. In addition, all the lights on the blackboard came on, which means that I can't tell if there is something wrong with the car or not because everything is on. The proximity sensors don't work, and I get the code for engine is P1326 and the anti-Lock Brake System the computer show the code C1211-02, C1207-02, C1210-02, C1208-02 Y C1209-01.I took it to the Hyundai agency in Miami Lake where I bought it and where they told me that the car had 10 years or 100,000 miles of warranty and when I arrived the person who received me without passing the car to diagnosis or anything told me that repair costs you $700,00 and tells me that to my warranty covers the engine, the engine has to be completely damaged; I explained to her the engine was in bad shape that it was better to do the repair than to change an entire engine if it was still being used, but she was still in the same negative until she left. I need to make this report because I didn't have any help from the Hyundai that sold me the car and which is still under a factory warranty. I consider this a violation and abuse of consumer rights by deceiving the American people with a guarantee that they then do not want to fulfill

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

This car has a the 7 speed DCT. This transmission is VERY unsafe. I have been fighting with the transmission losing power and being jerky for the last year or so. After looking online I found that EVERYONE with this transmission is having the issue. You never know when you will have power and it has almost got me into a major accident several times. There was a Class action lawsuit agains Hyundai in 2016 for the DCT transmission and they Hyundai lost. Yet they still put the same unsafe transmission in the 2017 and said they fixed it. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for lying to the consumer as well as putting the consumer in an unsafe situation.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Very often the transmission does not kick in when the accelerator is pushed and gas is applied. I.e when crossing an intersection, when passing, when moving forward from a complete stop, when changing lanes, and when on busy freeways. This has been reported to Dealer many times beginning in 2017. This has occurred when I have had passengers in vehicle as well as when other drivers have been behind the wheel. I again reported incidents in September of 2023 but could not get an appt with dealer scheduled until November 6, 2023. Since most recent report to dealer, I have experienced at least 4 more incidents that could very well have been life threatening.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I had my engine replaced in match 2023 due to stalled vehicle. After several trips to hyundai. Now just 6 months later and as off present my check engine light is back on . I took my car in to get the immobilizer installed from another recall. The dealership is giving me run around. I am confused why if they replaced my engine with a new one why do I have the check engine on again just some time later. I keep all maintenance up on my vehicle. Additionally now my heat is not blowing hot it's blowing cool and consuming large sum of anti freeze. I have yet another appointment with dealership and have to leave my truck they don't have any loamers available so I have to figure out how to get to work and my son to school on my own all while paying car note for a vehicle I've really lost trust in. Unfortunately because of the thefts and recalls my truck is more debt than value at this point

Potential Consequences:

My front doors on the Tucson when first unlocked will not open from the outside, this is a huge safety issue as if there were a crash or fire where anyone in the front seats were unconscious then help would not be able to get them out quickly, this would endanger not just drivers and passengers but also first responders. This needs to be a Hyundai recall as this is one of thousands of reports on this.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The 2017 Hyundai Tucson is unsafe to drive. Purchased the vehicle with 62000 miles and have had issues with the vehicle since shortly after purchase. Vehicle consumes oil at a rapid pace - in between 3000 mile oil changes additional oil is needing to be added within 600 miles, while driving the vehicle on the freeway at 70 miles an hour vehicle stalls and goes into limp mode - huge safety issue. Vehicle has been at Hyundai three times now - first time Hyundai covered all of the diagnostics and repairs, mainly electrical for the engine. Second time vehicle was stalling again and diagnosis was catalytic converter needed to be replaced, caused due to manufacturing error that is causing oil consumption - Hyundai would not cover, out of pocket cost $3600. A month later vehicle stalled and was going into limp mode again, check engine light on and flashing. Took to Hyundai again, now the diagnosis is engine needs to be replaced. Hyundai is denying replacement coverage, these engine failures are due to many manufacturing errors on the engine, I have a case open with Hyundai however they are highly unresponsive, dishonest, and continue to deny coverage for an engine replacement due to me being the second vehicle owner - the vehicle only has 83000 miles on it at this time and should be considered as a warranty coverage due to manufacturing errors in this engine and the low mileage along with the regular maintenance always maintained on the vehicle. Hyundai is also being dishonest about costs for an engine replacement, I have asked for quotes multiple times and have been unable to get any assistance or answers from Hyundai. Hyundai and any dealership getting these vehicles as trade ins are selling unsafe and defective vehicles, these defective engines need to be covered by Hyundai to provide safe roadways for all.
