Nissan North America, Inc.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V093000 SAFETY RECALL
712.5K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Feb 16, 2023
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

Potential Risk:
Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

NHTSA Campaign: 19V654000 SAFETY RECALL
1.2M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Sep 12, 2019
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Potential Risk:
The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My car started smoking/steaming while I was driving through town at night, shortly after the engine light came on and my C/H indicator sailed over to H. I pulled over and immediately shut the car off, called for a tow truck. Took about 10 minutes for it to cool down and stop smoking/steaming. Mechanic ran a diagnostic on it and told me that the cooling fan broke and that it could have started a fire had I kept trying to drive it, said they measured the temp inside and it got up to 268 degrees. They ordered a new one for me, but were told that it would take a while because there were 26 other customers ahead of me that were also waiting for one. My car is still sitting with the mechanic if it needs to be inspected, this is the first time that I have had any trouble with the vehicle in the 3 years that I have owned it.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

I was traveling between SC and NY on June 29, 2022. Two hours into the trip I stopped at a rest stop. When I accelerated back to highway speed and entered the freeway the car began decelerating It kept decelerating and I had to pull over to the shoulder. The car shut off. The car would restart and then immediately shut off I tried 5 times with the same result. There were no warning lights display. I had to be towed to the dealership. They tested various systems and then told me that the battery was just weak so they replaced it. This is a safety issue. Traffic on the freeway was very heavy and had been moving very fast. If I had made it into the center lane before the car decided to shut down, there would have been no way to get to the curve without having a major accident.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

On several separate occasions my brakes locked up while driving my 2018 Nissan Rouge Sport, including yesterday January 2, 2022, luckily I was trying to leave a gas station and not on the interstate like the prior incident. I didn't understand what was happening this morning January 3rd, when I started researching the strange orange indicator light that keeps displaying and why my brakes keeps locking and I can't do anything until they release themselves. I found several complaints of people having the same issue as I. This was a scary situation, I was 91 miles from home when this brake incident occurred again. I looked up recalls and there is no recall for the braking malfunction for my vehicle, I can't keep playing Russian Roulette with this vehicle and my life, I drive my 5 year old grandson in this car. Now that I know the issue I'm scared of driving for fear of having an accident and worst case scenario me or my grandson being killed if the brakes locked on the highway and someone slams into the rear of the vehicle. This is definitely a safely hazzard that needs to be resolved. I can't believe I had to research to find that this was an ongoing problem that's being kept quiet. Who has to die before major issues such as this are corrected, we are consumers who put their trust in the hands of automakers and manufacturers to ensure we are purchasing safe vehicles. Like myself and so many others, our intent is to purchase good quality vehicles, which includes safety as the number one feature. My vehicle is definitely not safe and I don't want to keep putting myself or my grandson in harm's way due to no fault of our own.

SEAT BELTS

Potential Consequences:

I was going to take my 2018 Nissan Rouge to the dealer for my electric fan coolant because the bearings sounds like they are going but we decided to do it ourselves because they wanted over 1000.00 USA Dollars and we can't afford that. Even my local garage said it would be over 800 bucks! We started to search the internet to find out we are not the only ones with this same problem!! Lots of people are having the same problem with these cars and most of the Nissan brand. I would like to know why this hasn't been recalled. This could heat up my engine or worse case blow it up. The second compliant I have is my seatbelt doesn't work sometimes. The latch keeps getting stuck and the light is on no matter if it is buckled or not. This seems to be not under warranty? WHY it is a safety hazard. I am very disappointed in the Nissan production. I love the car but keep having these problems!

Not sure where to start with complaint.....I just bought a 2018 Nissan Rogue Sport, and talked to a key-smith about getting a duplicate Fob....was told that the 2014 - 2018 Rogues have an issue with Fobs possibly causing an malfunction in the car system, and if it did the minimum fix for it is $ 1100. (Besides the $ 350 to get another Fob). He said I would have to sign a waiver stating I understand the issue, and couldn't hold them liable. He said he see's this allot and doesn't understand why NIssan doesn't have a recall on it. Help.
