Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
ABS and Traction light on dash. Chiming of alarm. This alarm turns off cruise control and feels like it applies the brakes at 70 mph. Lots of brake dust accumulating on my rims. It happens some days but not every day. Some days there is a constant alarm chime and cruise won't activate. On 10/24/23, parts weren't scheduled to be released until February 2024. Charged over $100 diagnostic fee for the ABS, traction control lights on the dash. By looking at other reports, this has been an issue for several years. They have known for over 2 years that there is an issue. Why is it taking so long to get a fix in place? ABS is a safety system. This should be a recall. The recall should cover replacing the brake pads and rotors also.

Defect Description:
SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
For 8 Months, I have had the ABS, Traction Control, and Service Electronic Braking System Lights/Messages illuminated, with endless warning chimes while driving. Anchorage Chrysler has had the truck in 4 separate times - finally troubleshooting the issue to a defective ABS/HCU component on [XXX]. I was told that replacement parts would be available by July 2024. On [XXX] I called to check on the parts. I was told that all ordered parts for this issue are blocked. Now, they want me to bring in the truck again so that technicians can verify “Step 6” pass/fail. At that point, a part could be ordered. This problem started in Sep 2023, and I drove this truck all winter in Alaska without anti-lock brakes. The brakes operate like vehicles without ABS, and will lock up if depressed too hard. There is a class action lawsuit concerning this problem out of California, but they wouldn’t let me join due to my living in Alaska. This should be a safety recall. I have been told 4 different stories on how this will be fixed over the past 8 months. Every time I check on the status of my parts - they have come up with other things to check before parts will be released. I have a 2018 Ram 2500, purchased new in 2019 and have 25,000 miles on this vehicle. I have been more than patient. When new directives come out, the dealership doesn’t even contact the customers that are waiting on parts. Like I stated earlier, I called to check on my ABS/HCU that was supposed to be available NLT July 2024, and that’s when I was notified I needed to schedule another appointment so they can verify the results of “Step 6” before parts will be released. They should have contacted all customers with these issues as soon as the message came out - but they didn’t. They wait for you to call and check the status, and then give you the news that it requires more troubleshooting. This is totally unacceptable. How much worse does a problem have to be before a recall is issued? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION A

The service abs light is constantly goin on and off before that and is still doin the same now. Scan tool says abs hcu module. I have my son driving this truck at times as well and it is not safe. There are thousands of the same trucks with the same issues i found out now. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
ABS light came on several months ago. Trusted local diesel mechanic tells us it's a common problem with 2018 RAM trucks and it will cost minimum $2000.00-$4000.00 to fix. A visit to the local RAM dealership in January 2024 advised us that RAM will not have the part available until at least June 2024 and that the fix would 100% be our cost and not covered by any kind of warranty.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
2018 Ram 2500 ABS control module and hydraulic control unit is defective. The vehicle’s information system illuminates service antilock brake system and service electrical braking system repeatedly during normal driving conditions. This is a known issue that Ram/Mopar has yet put out a recall on this defective part. I have contacted a local dealership and was told many times the part is on back order. I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle knowing it has a defective part that could prevent a possible accident.

Potential Consequences:
ABS Module/HCU failure. I’ve gotten this intermittently since I’ve owned the truck. However, it seems I’ve had a total failure now. I’ve had the ABS light on for 1 continuous month now resulting in loss of ABS braking and cruise control. A 7500 pound truck without ABS is very dangerous.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
"Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Antilock Braking System" Braking system is failing and not safe to drive. When the CEL is active, my anti-lock brakes do not work, I've almost been involved in multiple crashes as the ABS will not engage and the brakes will lock and cause the vehicle to slide or become incontrollable. This has been reported by a large group of owners and no resolution has been implemented and a replacement part is not available.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
In April , 2020, I contacted the RAM dealership because the "Service Electronic Braking System" warning light was coming on intermittently in my truck. It took two months to get an appointment scheduled at which time the truck was diagnosed with a faulty ABS hydraulic module. Estimated delivery time for the replacement part was an additional two months which made the truck over the 36000 mile warranty period. An appointment was made to have the part replaced but when I took the vehicle in I was advised there was no mechanic available to do the work. I purchased the part and had it installed by another dealer at a total cost of $986.86. The exact same problem reoccurred in May, 2022 and the part was replaced at a cost of $882.01. The problem reoccurred again in April, 2023 and was misdiagnosed as a computer problem which was repaired at a cost of $722.80. A new hydraulic module was then ordered to actually fix the problem and here it is a year later and there is still no firm delivery date available. The alarm and warning light flash almost constantly. We have had three close calls in the rain due to the failure of the ABS system and at this point I feel the vehicle is unsafe to drive. In addition to the ABS system malfunctioning, this problem also makes the cruise control inoperable. Recently the right front brake has begun to chatter making the vehicle pull to the right.
