Safety Issue:

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023 Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, Lexus RX350, 2023-2024 NX250, and NX350 vehicles that may have been incorrectly repaired under previous NHTSA recall number 23V-480. An electrical connection inside the steering column's spiral cable assembly may be insufficiently welded, causing the connection to separate and deactivate the driver's air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
A deactivated driver's air bag will not deploy as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect and replace the spiral cable assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 17, 2025. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 25TA02. Lexus' number for this recall is 25LA02.

Safety Issue:

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Corolla Cross vehicles that were previously inspected at a dealership under recall 23V-384. The instrument panel may have been produced without the required perforation, which could result in the front-passenger air bag not deploying properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Potential Risk:
An air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury during a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect and replace the instrument panel as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 26, 2024. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 23TA16. Vehicles previously inspected under 23V-384 will need to return to the dealership for additional inspection.

Potential Consequences:

I was at a red light on a busy highway. All of a sudden my car stopped working: I got a message on the dashboard along the lines of "engine power low" and "press brake hard to restart". But even if I pressed the brake hard, nothing would happen, and my car wouldn't move forward. In fact, because I was on a slight uphill, releasing the brake pedal made my car go backwards. The steering wheel also felt locked. I was panicked because the light turned green and a lot of cars were waiting behind me. I put my hazard lights on, and kept trying to press the brake hard to no avail. Finally after about a minute, I put my car in park, and turned off my car. I then restarted it, and it suddenly worked. This was a super scary experience, and very disappointing since my car is new as of two months ago.

I bought a 2023 Cross in good faith the end of March 2023. I needed it as a replacement car as mine had been totaled as I was hit head on Feb. 9,2020.Then the covid long months and years hit right after and then I could find no car. When I finally found one through a dealership then I got no 1 recall and later no2 recall.I have not been able to drive it much as safety issues and it has been sitting for weeks. First why was Toyota allowed to go through Takata for the parts when years ago they were in a prior recall with this manufacturer and Takata filed for bankruptcy then. Now this is the largest recall in this recall history and we, the customers of new cars, are in a mess. I bought an extended warranty which is no good since my car is sitting, they have the 2022 Cross SUV on this recall also-why was it not taken care of before we bought new 2023 vehicles??I waited years to replace my totaled car due to no cars (new) on lots and I had many injuries and the person who hit me had nothing to even pay off my bill for injuries-just a little insurance his mother had taken out.Had I known about the problem I would have found another new SUV.Why is there no one not allowing Toyota to use this manufacturer AGAIN so we do not have to go through all this. I have been through enough physically and still have medical problems and have to go to medical facilities 5-6 hours away for problems and planned on using my Cross and have 5 upcoming trips in the weeks ahead of me. I hope there can be some changes so this never happens again to new car buyers-it also has affected my car's value. I am so disappointed and mad in the whole situation. Thank you for your time. I ordered the car in July and it arrived on 8/3/23. On 8/31/23, I got in the car while in my garage, attempted to start it as usual, and a loud sound occurred when I shifted from park to reverse. Lights began flashing. I turned off the car, got out and walked around to make sure I hadn’t hit anything. After verifying clearance all around, I checked my phone. The Toyota Corolla Cross XLE had 4 codes listed: malfunctions of: electronic control of engine, AWD system, drive-start control system, and the advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. I restarted the car and backed out of my garage. The check engine light was still on. I backed out and tried to drive down my neighborhood street. When I steeped in the accelerator, the engine would race but not engage. Acceleration was problematic so I returned home. Later the same day, I had it towed into a local Toyota service center. After several days, they said it was “just a glitch”. They reset it and have not been able to get the codes to recur.

Then it said push break portal and touch engine switch with key. Still did not start. Today 9/4 same thing. Dealership Manager and technician came to my home (outstanding service ). I discovered it was not turn battery that the key was not being recognized. They said they have not had the problem with their cars but have heard about it worth this car from other dealerships. There is No fox as of yet.
