(GST) is recalling certain Toyota 2023 GR Supra, 2024 4 Runner, Corolla, Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Land Cruiser Hybrid, Tacoma, Tacoma Hybrid, 2023-2024 BZ4X, Corolla Cross Hybrid, GR Corolla, GR86, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, Sequoia Hybrid, Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, Venza Hybrid, 2023-2025 Crown, and 2025 Camry Hybrid vehicles equipped with GST accessories. The load carrying capacity modification label may display inaccurate added weight values. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Safety Issue:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, TX500 Hybrid, and TX550 Hybrid+ vehicles. The driver and passenger side curtain air bags may not unroll as intended and could partially deploy outside of an open window. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, "Ejection Mitigation."

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Potential Consequences:
Engine failed to engage while trying to pull out of my neighborhood this morning. The electric motor starts and propels the car forward into the road, but the gas motor fails to engage leaving me in the middle of the road without the ability to maneuver. This is a recurring problem. The dealer is aware of it and I have made reports here before. Just documenting each time until Toyota cooperates and helps find a solution. The car does not display any error codes. When I call the dealership to tell them and hopefully go in to have them run a diagnostic they consistently fail to get back to me or downplay my concerns.

Potential Consequences:
Car failed to accelerate when pulling into traffic on 5 lane road. Dealer completed a software update on 9/17 they thought would remedy the issue (which is ongoing) but it apparently did not. Vehicle gives no warning lights, error messages, etc. Just does not accelerate from a complete stop for 4-5 seconds.

I was heading home with my 6 year old son when all of a sudden there was a loud boom. Initially I thought there was an explosion or gun shot but then realized the panoramic moonroof had shattered and I continued hearing shattering. I pulled over the car to make sure I could creat some sort of safety for my son. I took some pictures. There was nothing that touched the glass. It just shattered. This was terrifying.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Since purchasing this vehicle when I have driven the vehicle and come home the vehicle smells of gas vapor/fumes. It's so bad the entire garage will fill with the vapor. Im afraid the garage will explode. I have to leave the vehicle parked outside for several hours until the smell is gone. This is a known issue for this car as others have complained about the same thing. Dealership has confirmed it is a known problem. They tried o tell me the first time I took it in that it was due to extreme heat in Las Vegas. I explained that our other vehicle and our friends vehicles don't do this and that is merely an excuse. After researching online I found that several other others in other states have the dame issue. When I recently took the vehicle in for software/radio issue as well as the gas vapor they did confirm it is a known issue. This is a safety issue as it could cause an explosion in small spaces where parked. We have an air conditioner for our garage but even at that it's extremely dangerous. This has happened on several occasions. Most recent is listed below.

I live in Arizona and the car has bad gas smell after drive a while(usually between 10-30 minutes) in a hot day (usually afternoon). I took the car to dealership and they replicated the issue and the dealership said Toyota told them it’s due to excessive heat and told us to use better quality gas which we are already getting gas from Chevron and Costco. Seems this is known problem because I saw other grand Highlander owners complained the same issue but Toyota is not doing anything to fix it. They can’t blame on the heat since they are selling the vehicles in AZ/NV. After drive the vehicle during a hot day, park the car in garage and the garage smells like gasoline.

My vehicle is part of the recall for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander. I have contacted Toyota due to vehicle no longer being considered safe should I be involved in an accident. They advised there is currently no fix for the recall and have no estimated timeframe as to when a fix will become available. I have requested different options to remedy the issue and they are unable to work with me with any reasonable accommodation requests to get me into a safer vehicle until a fix is available. They advised that this is a global recall where millions are affected and they are unable to make accommodations for that many people so we all have to stay put with our current vehicle even though they are shown to be unsafe in accidents. This vehicle was purchased as our family commuter car and we currently have my 4 year old sons dr appts which are 3 hours away that we have to commute to multiple times a week and I do not feel safe traveling with my family in this death trap. Toyotas response to this recall has been less than satisfactory and they are proving to have no concern for the unsafe conditions their consumers are being put in on a daily basis. As a consumer I am paying for a safe and reliable vehicle which I am not receiving, Toyota should be held accountable it should not be the consumers who are left to pay the price possibly with their life. I have had 2 intermittent issues since I bought this vehicle brand new. 1) Hard, Jerky shifting from 1-2 or 2-3 gear 2) Huge safety issue regarding loss of power and inability to accelerate from a stop even though the car is on and in drive. This has happened to me multiple times and is very intermittent so it is hard to replicate. This has happened when I am attempted to accelerate from a complete stop and the car begins to move but then does not accelerate at all. Almost as if the powertrain shut off even though it was moving under its own power a fraction of a second ago. This has happened to me multiple times with my entire family in the car as we attempted to enter intersections leaving the car powerless with oncoming traffic. Thankfully we were not hit by another car but could have been.

This has happened when I am attempted to accelerate from a complete stop and the car begins to move but then does not accelerate at all. Almost as if the powertrain shut off even though it was moving under its own power a fraction of a second ago. I have asked multiple times at the dealer about and been told they cannot do anything about it unless the car gives a code. They also say it will not reproduce for them, although every time I pull out of their service location (with a slight incline) it stalls out and will not engage immediately for me.

Sometimes when I switch gears- for example, go from Park to reverse- the vehicle won't move. I can press on the gas and nothing happens. If I wait a second, I can press the gas again and it will go. Or, I can put it back into park and then reverse again, and the car will move. It's unsettling when it happens because there is no rhyme or reason, I switch to reverse or drive and I press the gas and I can't move. It feels dangerous. I asked the dealer and he didn't have an answer. Sometimes it happens every week or a couple days in a row or I can go a couple weeks and it doesn't happen.Ive had the vehicle for over a year- and it started from the beginning and continues to this day.
