LEASED THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR AND HAVE EXPERIENCED 3 MAJOR CRACKS TO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE FIRST ONE WAS CAUSED BY PROBABLY A SMALL ROCK WHILE DRIVING MID SPEED AND SPREAD IMMEDIATELY FROM THE PASSENGER-SIDE PERIMETER. THE SECOND ONE WAS CAUSED BY UNKNOWN, MAYBE A ROCK, AS I DID NOT SEE NOR HEAR ANYTHING BUT OVERNIGHT SAW A CRACK IN THE CENTER THAT SPREAD VERY QUICKLY. THE THIRD CRACK WAS CAUSED BY PROBABLY A SMALL ROCK THAT STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE PERIMETER. I HAVE OWNED NICER CARS THAN THE PRIUS AND ALSO ONES LESS PRESTIGIOUS. WHILE OWNING THESE CARS FOR 5+ YEARS AND DRIVING EXTENSIVELY, I HAVE NEVER, EVER SUFFERED MORE ROCK IMPACTS BY A WINDSHIELD THAT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE THAN WHEN I HAVE DRIVEN THIS 2016 PRIUS. I WAS FINE WITH THIS BUT JUST TODAY I GO OUT TO MY CAR AND SEE A 6 INCH CRACK THAT STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT WASN'T THERE BEFORE AND I DIDN'T HEAR A ROCK HIT IT EITHER. THE CAR IS TYPICALLY PARKED IN A PARKING GARAGE DURING THE WORKWEEK AND EITHER IN MY DRIVEWAY OR GARAGE. THE CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 TOYOTA PRIUS EQUIPPED WITH YOKOHAMA BLUEARTH S34 TIRES, SIZE: P215/45R/17 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BECAME UNSTABLE AND A THUMPING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE REAR END. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTING IT, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT. AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT INSIDE THE TIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE MANUFACTURER WERE BOTH NOTIFIED ALONG WITH THE LOCAL TIRE DEALER (LES SWAUB AND GOODYEAR). THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,900.

THE INITIAL IMPACT CAUSED SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT CRACKS RUNNING LENGTHWISE AND WIDTHWISE ACROSS MY WINDSHIELD INSTEAD OF JUST STARING OR PITTING AS TRADITIONALLY OCCURS. THIS IS MY THIRD PRIUS AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A WINDSHIELD RESPONDING THIS WAY. IT APPEARS ONLINE THAT THIS HAS BECOME A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND IT IS EXTREMELY COSTLY SINCE THEY CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE AN AFTERMARKET AVAILABLE. AS WELL AS REQUIRING $600+ RECALIBRATION. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA. I AM CONCERNED THAT I AM GOING TO PAY $1500 TO GET THIS FIXED (SINCE MY INSURANCE USES MY DEDUCTABLE) ONLY FOR IT TO BREAK AGAIN DUE TO A MINOR INSTANCE (AS MANY HAVE COMPLAINED ONLINE).
