POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Transmission Component: M5T: TRANSMISSION AUTO 8 SPD, 8L45 available for inspection. The vehicle shakes badly and shudders during acceleration and causes a brief inability to accelerate, often at higher speeds and with a great deal of rumbling and vibration. No other warning lamps, messages, or symptoms. The problem first appeared about 2 months ago. I recognized it as a persistent problem, and I was no longer comfortable driving the vehicle and feared that it would shut down while driving. I took my vehicle for diagnostic and maintenance at a local service center who also noticed that the transfer case "is making an unusual squeaking noise when driving". I was then notified that this is a known problem with this vehicle make and model for 2019 and referred here to file a complaint. Having less than 60K miles on this vehicle, I was referred to the dealership for possible next steps.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The infotainment center goes out, then comes on on a frequent basis causing the loss of navigation system through CarPlay and now will not even connect to CarPlay also loses backup camera. In addition I have noted that when the blinker is on to signal a turn, it will stop the blinker system when the infotainment center goes out, which is a safety concern with the use of blinkers to signal approaching rear traffic to the vehicle. I have contacted the dealer and also see there’s an infotainment bulletin out. I have not had a response from the dealership as of this report. I am also a certified safety professional, and the loss of turn signal in conjunction with the infotainment center outage raises a safety concern in my opinion. This has been an ongoing issue with the system for the last year or so and has progressively gotten worse to the point that the screen now goes out every minute or so for 5 to 30 seconds and now CarPlay will no longer connect to phone for navigation. The constant screen going black started within the last 30 days of June 2025.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, equipped with the 3.6L LGZ engine, recently triggered a P0024 diagnostic trouble code. This code indicates a failure of the Bank 2 exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid, a critical part of the variable valve timing (VVT) system. After researching, I discovered that General Motors has issued Special Coverage N232430470 for this exact issue on the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado, which uses the same LGZ engine and solenoid system. Despite the identical failure and engine design, my vehicle is not currently included in the coverage. I believe this reflects a systemic defect that affects multiple model years — not just 2020 — and that GM is choosing to limit coverage unfairly. This failure can result in check engine warnings, drivability issues, reduced fuel economy, and possibly emissions system non-compliance. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate whether this VVT solenoid issue warrants a broader recall or special coverage extension across model years with the LGZ engine (including 2019).

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact's husband stated that while driving 20 MPH, while attempting to turn into a parking lot, and another vehicle was attempting to exit the same parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's husband depressed the brake pedal, the brake pedal seized, and the contact had to veer and downshift to first gear to avoid crashing into the other vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with vacuum pump failure and a fractured part from the vacuum camshaft. The vehicle was not fully repaired. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired by the dealer because the vehicle was not under recall and parts were on back order, as per the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
I was driving around 60mph on a highway with cruise control. Heavy traffic resulted in a major accident in front of me. I slammed my brakes, which prevented me from getting involved in the altercation. However, the vacuum pump on the Colorado shattered, and I was forced to drive on the highway with a limited ability to brake. I recall the brake pedal being flushed against the floor. Luckily, I am young and strong. However, if any elderly person were driving, they would not be able to brake the car due to the excessive force I had to apply. Furthermore, after pulling off the highway, my engine leaked oil. To empathize, after slamming my brakes, my brakes stopped working.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
While driving the vehicle lost power, would not go over 15 mph. There was a loud rattling noise from the engine. Check engine light came on. loss of power and speed prevented me from keeping up with traffic. Had vehicle towed to Chevrolet Dealership was told high pressure fuel pump mounting bolts had broken and fuel pump was loose. Dealer replace fuel pump and one fuel pipe (part #12627128). I paid full price repair ($ 1,775.21) and contacted Chevrolet to see if they would offer any assistance I was under the power-train mileage but over on time. They offered and I accepted 50% of the repair cost but no towing. After some research I discovered there was a recall (18V358000) for an erlier model for a similar problem . The recall was for the fuel pump separating from the base which could damage the fuel line and create a fire hazard. In my case the entire pump came loose which leads to the same result as the pump separating from the mounting plate.

Potential Consequences:
I purchased my 2019 Chevy Colorado Z71 new in Feb 2019 from a dealership. About two years ago I began having shifting issues from 1st to 2nd gear, it would shudder and seem almost stuck, this would only occur infrequently. Right after I hit 100,000 miles (about a year ago) I have had nothing but issues with the 8 speed transmission, my vehicle is unable to shift from 1st to 2nd without having the shudder occur, it feels like the whole truck is shaking and loses power at acceleration. I took it in for their recommended "service bulletin" which was something that I had to locate myself because GM has not once communicated about there being any kind of shudder issue and they performed a simple flush of the transmission, not the service bulletin recommendation of three flushes and a different fluid. My truck is now in the shop because I am unable to drive it due to this ongoing issue that GM fails to recognize and so far have spent $1,000 attempting to rectify this issue and being told that in order for them to actually perform the service bulletin, it will be another $225 to diagnose the problem, around $500-$700 to perform the service bulletin, and then if that "does not fix the problem", I will have to spend another $900 on a torque converter because that "could" be the issue, the dealership "doesn't know". Then the third fix would be to replace the transmission ($5500-$8500) This has been a known issue since manufacturing and GM is failing to provide adequate assistance to fix a known problem with their 8 speed transmissions. I no longer feel safe to operate my chevy colorado in fear that it could cause serious injury to myself and others due to GM not being able to provide a safe fix to their ongoing issue.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
My vehicle has only 70,000 miles on it. My transmission began to shimmy and is getting worse and worse and several technicians have told me the transmission will have to be replaced. The parts are not available anywhere in the country to rebuild the parts of the transmission that are defective. Secondly I was told I could replace the transmission but there are no transmissions available in the entire country to repair my vehicle with. After investigation on the internet this is a massive problem with this model vehicle and Chevy has been well aware of it for years. A few months ago I had the same problem with them air conditioner compressor. There were no air conditioner compressors available anywhere in the country for my four and a half year old vehicle.
