Defect Description:
STEERING
Potential Consequences:
The electronic power steering failed while driving making the steering of the vehicle difficult and if my wife or child had been driving this could have resulted in an accident if they could not steer the vehicle without the power assistance. The instrument cluster displayed to service the power steering unit. Mechanics diagnostic is that it was the corrosion of water entering the system. Also that this I a known problem. There was a recall recently for 2015 models for what appears now to be a technical service bulletin for the newer years of the vehicle. This is a dangerous issue that seems to have now plagued multiple years of the Colorado pickup. The mechanic also stated that AUL service warranty (protective asset protection) denied the claim to repair as it is a known issue.... Currently attempting to speak with them to appeal the decision. The warranty company is also not above board as well as they have worded their contract to be misleading with provisions to deny claims due to common causes of failure. Realistically if Chevrolet did not address the problem of the 2015 model year the recall should be expanded.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
When I put the truck in park it goes into park fine. I can turn the engine off but I can't remove the key because the ignition switch won't go all the way forward. The lights stay on and also the radio. I had to repeatedly start and stop the truck and move the gear shift selector to remove key. I had the same problem in February 2022. The dealer fixed it by replacing gear shift selector while under warranty. The problem was remedied. Said this was happening and there was a TSB about this problem. This problem was never consistent. Now in Aug. 2023 I am having the same problem. The truck is no longer under warranty and the dealer says that I must pay to have it diagnosed and fixed. Chevrolet is aware they have this problem with several different models and don't want to acknowledge it and take responsibility. There are several class action lawsuits filed about this. This is a safety issue because I just can't leave the truck with the key in the ignition. I looked online and have seen that Chevrolet has this problem with several models of different years. They should find a solution and have a recall to address this problem. The dealer also told me my truck was actually worth less if I were to trade it in because of this problem. Should have said something in 2019 as they knew about this problem since at least 2016. They fix the problem by replacing faulty parts with the same faulty parts.

While driving steering assist went out and the steering wheel would hang up and make it hard to control. You could get past the stoping point with effort but the control would wonder and make it hard to turn. Luckily it happened close to home because it would have been hard to control at speed and in traffic.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The truck has a hard downshift and when stopping and starting again at a stop sign it will lunge forward sometimes. Also, when holding speed at 50-60 mph you can feel a slight shutter like the truck is not running correctly. The dealer flushed the transmission when I purchased the truck but the issue continued so I made an appointment with the service department on march 3,2023.They took the truck on a road test and did notice the hard downshift and noted that this is a normal characteristic of this transmission(this is not normal and is unsafe)and will not offer to repair it.It is now the end of July 2023 and the issue continues and no one seems to want to do anything about it.I am going to take it back again but I am probably going to get the same answer

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
We purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado December 2022. Beginning in January 2023 to current month July 2023 the vehicle has been at the dealership 4 times for the same occurrence: SERVICE STABILITRAK and ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED A warning “ding” sounds (the same noise as seatbelt, door ajar, etc) simultaneously with the messages “SERVICE STABILITRAK” and “ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED” The vehicle immediately is jerking or lurching, the engine no longer runs smoothly and is misfiring. The engine power reduced does not allow safe acceleration, and the vehicle is unstable (as it moves it feels like driving over a thousand speed bumps over and over), the engine misfiring is heard from the exhaust and the vehicle is visibly vibrating, on acceleration the maximum speed is 20 mph. All 4 times this has happened while driving the vehicle on highways in traffic. We are left unable to get out of the way of moving traffic, unable to accelerate, change lanes or make turns safely. Three of the four times we had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The last time the vehicle did this fortunately I was near our local dealership and drove it less than a mile so the service people could “witness” what I had been trying to explain what’s been happening with this vehicle. This is a very serious issue! My husband is 75 and very ill. I have to drive him 100+ miles for treatments on a regular basis. We cannot continue to be put in danger because of this vehicle default. We need this problem fixed not only for ourselves but for the safety of others, including unsuspecting drivers and innocent passengers, young, elderly, disabled, some simply misunderstanding our vehicles “failures to perform” in traffic on the roads. A trusted vehicle is very important. A stabile vehicle with sufficient engine power is a must if we are going to put it on the roads. “SERVICE STABILITRAK” and “ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED” is not new. General Motors needs to take action to correct this problem and educate dealers.

Additional Notes:

* The touch screen went blank. After inspection by Dealer, it was discovered the radio failed causing this event to occur. * Without this component, the turn signals did not work properly, the seat belt warning did not sound, there was no access to rear camera, and rear cross traffic warnings and back-up camera did not work. In addition, access to On Star did not work for any emergency situations. * Dealer confirmed the radio caused this issue. * Only the Dealer inspected the vehicle. * There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the event occurring. It happened after starting the vehicle one morning (April 25, 2023). Additionally, the light on the touch screen remained on when the motor was turned off, causing drain of the battery and leaving me stranded. I had to call emergency services to help me. I had to purchase a new battery because of this along with the purchase of a new radio component as well as pay for re-programming of the system. Total cost of this incident was $1,400.71. It should also be noted that the vehicle only has 65,000 miles on it.
