NHTSA Campaign: 19V761000 SAFETY RECALL
653K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Oct 24, 2019
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Potential Risk:
Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Potential Risk:
As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

29.6K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 3, 2017
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The owner's manual for the affected vehicles may be missing instructions on how to use the tether anchorage and child restraint anchorage systems. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the instructions are missing from the owner's manual, the child seat may be installed incorrectly and not be properly secured, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide a corrected insert for the owners manual, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 17307.

40.7K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jul 10, 2017
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Potential Risk:
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

The transmission locked up while driving such that we came to a stop in traffic with our newborn and toddler in the back seat and were required to call 9-1-1 because the vehicle was stuck in a gear and would not move while we were in the middle of a road in traffic. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer that the transmission blew due to metal getting into the transmission from failure of transmission pan. There was minimal warning before it happened. Approx. 8 months prior we had taken it in to dealer because the RPMs were running high and and we’re told it was the 4 wheel drive causing it and approx. 2 weeks prior to this incident we heard grinding.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

After a full service of the truck in July 2022 with approximately 90,000 miles (including oil change, tire rotation, transfer case fluid exchange, front and rear differential service, coolant system flush and refill, front and rear brake pads and resurface of rotors, and transmission fluid flush and refill), the truck began jerking and stuttering (like rolling over rumble strips) in October 2022. In February 2023, the truck was taken back to dealer service department for an oil change and inspection of the jerking/stuttering issue, the service department replaced the spark plugs, inspected the wires and connectors, and performed a throttle body service with the expectation that this would fix the jerking/stuttering issue. It did not. In May 2023, the truck was diagnosed with a transmission issue by an independent service center and confirmed by the dealer service department. From the start of the issue in October 2022 until diagnosis of the transmission issue, no warning lamps or messages ever appeared. The dealer service department stated that the torque converter is bad and that it would be best to replace the full transmission. The truck is still drivable, but the dealer service department suggested that it should not be driven as the transmission could fail completely at any time. At this time, safety is of utmost concern and the truck will not be driven until fixed as we do not want to put ourselves, our passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians in an unsafe situation if the transmission fails.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Potential Consequences:

while driving my son saw smoke coming from the rear window defogger, I pulled over and saw melted pieces of plastic, I contacted my dealer when I saw a recall online, my dealer said even though your vehicle is the same year and model and the exact same condition occurred, your vehicle is not listed under the recall. I don't understand why this vehicle is not under the recall when the exact condition occurred. GM was unable to assist with and complete the repair under the recall

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 6-speed 6L80 had a torque converter failure and the transmission had metal debris. The vehicle would jerk or hard shift on acceleration while on the highway. When stopped at a light the truck RPMs would increase and then hesitate, jerk, and then move. This started as being barely noticeable and within a couple of weeks became extremely dangerous. I was on my way to the dealer for inspection when at a light and the RMPs went up it hesitated, jerked, and then moved, jerked again, then stopped. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer before purchase in Nov 2022 and this took place in April 2023. The vehicle was towed to GM service center/dealer who said the torque converter and transmission were issued and needed to be replaced. I moved it to another transmission shop to have the work done. No warning lights. From the time the light jerks/rough shifts randomly happened to the time the hard jerks/hard shifts happened almost causing an accident only a couple of times once in Dec 2022 and then it ran fine. On 4/22/23 I felt it again and headed towards the GM when it happened harshly and I didn't make it due to the RMP reve, hard jerk, and then nothing. I was lucky that this time I was in town and not on a highway.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Potential Consequences:

While driving down the highway in a torrential rain the wipers just stopped working. They were cutting on and off and now do not work at all. The problem appears to be in the engine compartment fuse block which is not servicable. It is currently not fixed and could be inspected. We could not see 50 feet in front of us and were blindly following the car in front of us. It hasent been to the dealer yet as the truck is out of warrenty and it would not be covered. This came without any warning lamps or messages.

TIRES:TREAD/BELT

Potential Consequences:

My 2017 Chevy Silverado has four General Tires 285/45 R22 114 H installed. DOT HW6T HMW1 on all four tires. We had driven to Ohio from NY over the weekend and on the return trip (about 900 miles into the trip) the air pressure light came on and I noticed the Rear Driver side tire had 23 lbs of air. The leak was slow enough that I was able to drive 2 miles to a exit and stop at a gas station. When I got out I could hear the air leaking from the tire but could not see any visible issue yet. After jacking up the truck and removing the tire that's when I notice the tread was completely splitting away from the tire. See pictures. The tread had split about 3/4 of the way around the tire. Although this tire is not on the list for the recall 21T001000 the defect description matches.
