General Motors Llc
NHTSA Campaign: 19V761000 SAFETY RECALL
653K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Oct 24, 2019
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Potential Risk:
Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Potential Risk:
As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

29.6K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Aug 3, 2017
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The owner's manual for the affected vehicles may be missing instructions on how to use the tether anchorage and child restraint anchorage systems. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Potential Risk:
If the instructions are missing from the owner's manual, the child seat may be installed incorrectly and not be properly secured, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will provide a corrected insert for the owners manual, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 17307.

NHTSA Campaign: 17V437000 SAFETY RECALL
40.7K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jul 10, 2017
Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Potential Risk:
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
FREE Recall Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Stalling with no power transmission is putting me at risk since I first purchased this vehicle. Transmission needs to be replaced because of the defective drive shaft on all 2017 models . Really serious problem with a hard shift and multiple misfire. Just not sure what to do at this point. I’m still paying for a truck that’s not working.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Transmission failed. As I was pulling a horse trailer the transmission went out of gear and left me on a curve in the roadway. No warring lights or any other kind of warning was given. I did take it to a dealer to have it checked out and was advised I would need a new transmission. The cost would be $7,000. I do not have the funds, therefore my truck is not drivable and is parked. I have learned this is a known problem with this transmission and GM is not doing anything about it. The very least they could do is pay for half of the repair cost.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

In reverse my brakes dont work, its like they are grinding, ive changed the rear brakes hoping to fix the issue, i have no codes. It has almost made me wreck due to failure to stop with my kids in the truck, also the afm system is defective in order to keep my engine as safe as possible i had to put a afm deactivate plug into the obd port. Ive tried to figure out the brakes but no one can explain. Spending 34 thousand dollars i expect to have my vehicle safe for my children. I have been strictly chevy my whole life but this is unacceptable. Where we live in alaska id expect the vehicle to be in order and it does it mainly at steep hills and it hasnt done it when ive had people look at it.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, her husband swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and simultaneously depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact's husband pulled to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The contact husband noticed that there was smoke coming from the front driver's side brakes and the brake calipers and the front driver's side tire was significantly hot. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving, and the vehicle responded as needed when the brake pedal was depressed down to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brakes and the brake calipers were replaced; however, the failure recurred within a week. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where the brake pads, the rotors, and the brake calipers were replaced. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) which the contact related to the failure. The local dealer was contacted but informed the contact that they could not perform the recall repair because an independent mechanic had previously serviced the vehicle. The contact contacted Joe Bullard Chevrolet (2900 Government Blvd, Mobile, AL 36606) and Terry Thompson Chevrolet, INC. (1402 US-98 E, Daphne, AL 36526), who informed the contact that they could not assist because the first dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Transmission (6L80) torque converter failed at 76k miles. The transmission has never shifted well but was told that’s how they shift. Vehicle is not used for towing. And all scheduled maintenance was followed. While driving down the road the transmission suddenly started shuttering and jerking. Luckily, I was able to make it to a transmission shop who confirmed the torque converter was shot. Called Chevy dealer and the service rep advised that there is a reason they have 30 of those transmissions on the shelf right now, it’s a known issue. Unfortunately, it’s outside the warranty. Transmission has already been replaced with a remanufactured 6L80. 500 miles after the new transmission installed, the torque converter went out again. Another 6L80 is scheduled to be put in. This transmission is unreliable and went out while driving down the highway. No warning lights ever came on to indicate any issues.
