Safety Issue:

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Potential Risk:
Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with diesel engines. The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up.

Potential Risk:
Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will install new transmission control module software, free of charge. GM will provide a special coverage program to cover the repair of transmissions that are identified by the remedy software as containing a defective control valve. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021 Yukon, Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Potential Risk:
Daytime Running Lights that do not deactivate as intended may cause a glare, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

General Motors, LLC (M) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with third-row seats. The rivet that retains the buckle to the mounting bracket in the left or right side third-row seat belt buckle assembly may have been improperly formed.

Potential Risk:
A seat belt with a deformed rivet may not properly restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the rivet head formation on both the left and right side third-row seat belt buckle assemblies and replace seat belt buckle assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 28, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 1, 2022. While driving in traffic the car shut off, engine stopped. When the car stopped it went into park. Could not restart the car. On November 9th, 2022 my wife was returning from the store when our Tahoe lost power and the engine shut off. She was able to pull off the highway onto a side street prior to the engine shutting off. I met her at that spot to see what was going on with the vehicle. The car was parked on a slight hill and after checking the oil and other fluids I could not see an issue with the car and the car would still not start. I was able to tow the car to a flat spot and checked the fluids again. After about 45 minutes the car did restart with the check engine light on. We were able to get the vehicle to an auto shop about a 1/4 mile down the road where they were able to hook up their reader and see what the check engine light was for. A code of P129F came up which is the fuel pump module, pictures attached of screen. We then were able to get the car home and it was towed to a Chevy dealership the following day. There techs were able to find a recall number of 21V739000 which was issued on 9-23-2021 showed that this happened in certain 2021 Tahoe's. While our vin number did not fit into the vin numbers on the recall number I still feel this was the issue. I feel this could be a bigger safety issue with other vehicles on the road that did not fit into that recall could still have the issue. While we were lucky and know one was injured the next people may not be so lucky. Also since our Tahoe was not in the range of VIN numbers on the recall we are being forced to pay out of pocket 521.81. Which I will be fighting Chevrolet to pay us back.

Corrective Action:

Our Tahoe was inspected for the announced recall and failed the test. The dealer/manufacturer has absolutely no timeline for when the 3rd row seat belts will be repaired and said we cannot use any of the 3rd row seats until then. The dealer even said it could be a year before parts are available. This is totally unacceptable. Has GM rerouted new seat belt assemblies from their manufacturing of new vehicles to prioritize repairs of vehicles already on the road vs. keeping their sales pipeline full? I doubt it. Are dealers prioritizing vehicles on the road over those on their lots that are waiting to be sold. I doubt it. These are the very questions NHTSA should be asking of GM. GM is offering nothing to customers that purchased $70,000+ vehicles from them for the very reason that they have big 3rd rows. How are families of 5 or more supposed to function in the meantime? NHTSA should exert all available pressure on GM to prioritize on-road vehicles and do it now.

Potential Consequences:

My car’s service safety restraint system alert is on for the second time. I took it to Hanner Chevrolet in Baird, TX the first time and they told me it was fixed. It stayed off for a few months until the alert lit up again. My car is available for inspection. According to the dealership, while that light is on, they cannot guarantee that my airbags will deploy in the event of a crash. The dealership has confirmed that there is a problem and has seen the same issue with many other 2021 Tahoes. My vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership so far. The warning lamp is currently on. Luckily I have not had an accident in my vehicle, but I feel unsafe driving it at this time until the issue is resolved. After speaking with the dealership and researching online, it appears that this is a common issue with the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and creates a significant safety threat. I believe a recall might be required.

The dashboard for the vehicle loses all power and does not regain power/connectivity. I've had this problem "fixed" 5 times by the Chevy dealership and the issues continues. They've replaced the entire dash, checked electrical components, changed out the electrical bank, and the issues continues. Driving down the road at 65 mph to have your dash go out is not only terrifying but extremely dangerous! I have no idea how fast I'm going, how much gas I have, no situational awareness related to vehicles that are close by... the ENTIRE dash goes out. This is a brand new 2021 Chevy Tahoe... I bought it with 4 miles on it and within a month of the purchase, the vehicle had this problem.
