Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Our car would not start. Took to dealer for repair. They changed 12 volt baterie and a fuse. Next couple days later same problem. No start or baterie. Took back to the dealer they diagnosed a bad becm battery electric control module. They have had it for 2 weeks with no estimate on when the part will be available. I understand it is common failure on volt cars.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle went to low propulsion mode and would not move at a stop light during rush hour traffic. After many trial and errors restarting the car it finally moved under low propulsion mode. We were almost hit from behind many times because of people at the last minute turning around a stalled car... GM diagnosed the issue as a bad BECM (battery energy control module). Our service rep said it is a very common issue with this car and that they have a few others waiting for a replacement part. I am at month 2 waiting for my vehicle to get fixed.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

Our 2017 Volt started experiencing a "Shift to Park" error message on November 2, 2022 when the vehicle is stopped and the transmission shifter has been placed in "Park". Apparently the microswitch responsible for detecting "Park" (GM part # 84955382) has failed and this appears to be a common defect in several models of Chevrolet. With this error message the vehicle will not turn off and the car cannot be secured properly (both of which are a safety concern). Our vehicle has less than 30K miles on it so it should not be a case of normal wear and tear causing the problem. GM has not issued a recall for this defect yet but we see there are several class action law suits looking to force them to do so. We also note that a number of consumers have reported the error progressing so that it occurs while the vehicle is in operation causing the driver to have to pull to the side of the road when transmission operation ceases. Chevrolet released document ID 5403533 on December 11, 2020, Bulletin #19-NA-206 due to the frequency of this defect detailing the parts needed to effect repairs for several models of Chevrolet. We have discussed this issue with our local Chevrolet dealer and they concur the vehicle should be repaired ASAP to avoid the progression of switch failure in the vehicle. Since the car is out of warranty and in the absence of a manufacturer's recall that will cost approximately $310. We will have this repair done tomorrow (November 15) and will ask the dealer to provide us the defective switch in case you care to inspect it.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I parked my Volt with approximately 24 miles of electric range remaining. Later when I got in to start it up, the guess-o-meter showed a full charge but at the bottom of the meter it showed 0 miles of electric range. Shifting to Drive caused the "shift to park" message to appear. Shifting back to Park made the message go away. The car would not move under either electric or gas power. The check engine light was on. By the way, this Shift to Park issue is not the same as the microswitch shift to par however you could pay for the shift to park repair and it not be that resulting in more money spent… also many people have waited months for the part and chevy does little to nothing

Dear Madam or Sir, regarding the recall of Chevrolet Volt 2017. The vehicle made in USA, VIN No [XXX] has been bought an officially from IAAI auction (after an accident, but repairable) and delivered to Lithuania (Europe), repaired successful. The information regarding the recall has been found in an official GMC site (the details please see in att.) Starting from March 2022 I have been tried to contact to GMC US (Chevrolet authorized dealership is not exist in Lithuania, just for Cadillac), but any help did not received yet. At this moment the vehicle is not safety to drive, because already several times it's has been stopped in a road - the defected Energy control module, which has been mentioned in recall. So, be so kind and help to pass this problem. Waiting the comments Thanks for the kind replay. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

A problem occurred on approx Sept 25 where the vehicle dash suddenly displays "shift to park" and no longer has any propulsion. This is dangerous, as in this case the car was stuck in the middle of traffic unable to move to the shoulder. Luckily someone helped push my wife out of the road. This is the 2nd time this summer (2022) that this has occurred. It has also occurred in the more distant past. The car goes into a mode where it cannot fully shut down or started. Shifting out of Park simply bring back the message of "Shift to Partk". I have found the only way to get the car moving was to disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the computer. Vehicle was brought to dealership for service. Tech could find no issue associated with this problem. Shifter was replaced just to rule that out.

Potential Consequences:

Driving and check engine appeared. Vehicle hybrid power train acted erratically, switching into and out of limp mode. Potential loss of control without any previous warning signs. Diagnosed with a failure of Battery Energy Control Module 24296900. Multiple complaints of the same issue from other owners. 5 other same model cars at dealership waiting for the same part. Estimated arrival is 8-12 weeks. This has been a well documented problem since 2018, and Chevrolet has released a TSB acknowledging the issue, and potentially loss of control and stranding.

Additional Notes:

The car will not turn off and it says it needs to be shifted into “park” after it is already parked. I am left unable to leave my car or lock it when I need to leave which makes this dangerous in case of an emergency where I need to leave the car quickly and cannot without leaving the car on and open.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Traveling from Mexico ,we just got into yuma Arizona heading towards the 8 freeway when my volt displayed reduced propulsion and the engine light came on and the car lost power while driving on the road we had to let the car drift into a parking lot. We let the cat sit for a several minutes and the engine started up but was running hard. After that it ran a little so we decided to rent a uhaul and car hauler to get the car home. Before this happened We were about to head back to California and we were stranded there until we got an Uber to the uhaul place and rented a truck and car hauler, the car would stay on long enough for us to drive it up on the ramp so we had to push the car to get it up there. We finally did and 24 hours later we made it home hauling the cars a 3 hour ride home was turned into a nightmare. Apparently this is serious problem if the car would have stopped a while we were driving through Joshua Tree we would have been stranded on the side of the narrow road in the dark, Or on a major free way, This problem is a safety hazard to all Volt owners and it has been known and reported to happen countless of times so why is there no recall of these vehicles for this problem, people's lives are in danger, this could have turned out way worst, thank God He saved us from what could have happened. My dealer says that they are not sure what caused it and that we may have to pay for repairs. This is unacceptable because there is an obvious problem with this vehicle
