2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On 2 occasions my 2017 Edge car would not start. Check Engine light came on and I took it to my local mechanic. I was told blown gasket and coolant in engine. Vehicle has been running perfectly with only 62,000 miles. Warranty has expired so now I have to pay $9,000 for new engine. Ford needs to recognize this has occurred repeatedly in the Ford Edge and proceed with a recall. Ridiculous that this would happen in a well maintained vehicle with low mileage.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Putting the car in drive and would drive a few feet suddenly, all the panel lights ( check engine, abs, hazard control, electric parking brake,) literally every light on the panel would turn on and engine would stall causing the steering to become hard to control. This happened 3 times within a 2 week span then, I brought it into dealership and was told my coolant had leaked into my cylinders causing the engine to become ruined and that’s why I was having the problems with the engine and steering. My car has only 59000 miles.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Our 2017 Ford Edge had 67,000 miles and it developed a cracked block. We needed to replace the long block engine. It turns out Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin number 19-2346 in 2019. This bulletin applies to all Ford Edges produced from 2015 - 2018 and other Ford models. Even though this problem was experienced by thousands of these vehicles the owners were never advised. This is a major engine defect that could cause many dangerous conditions including engine fires. The cost of Ford's recommendation to fix this problem was well over $10,000. This engine failure was a clear defect that Ford should have and still needs to issue a recall and to take full responsibility. I know you have received similar complaints from many Ford owners with the same problem. Please take action to cause this to happen and order Ford to compensate those already affected by this defect. Thank you.
