Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX], my check engine light came on, followed by random shaking vibration after starting up the vehicle. I received code P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected. Autozone recommended to replace the ignition coil or spark plug. I replaced the ignition coil first and noticed there were oil inside of the hole and on the old ignition coil. I took my vehicle to Lafontaine Ford Lansing dealership in Lansing, Michigan. I was informed the oil was caused by valve cover gasket leaking. The cylinder misfire was caused due to coolant leaking into the cylinders. Two cylinders had already contained coolant. I was told this will result in engine failure and overheating eventually if I continue to drive the vehicle. Ford suggested to replace the long block and quoted me $11, 372.45 for the repair. My warranty expired at 100,000 miles. At the time of this incident, I was at 115,577 miles. This appeared to be a common issue/defect that Ford failed to disclose and refused to fix. I declined the repairs due to the exorbitant cost and left the vehicle parked. This defect (which Ford is at fault for) could have jeopardized my safety and other drivers on the road if it led to a potential fire while driving from Ohio. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Check engine light came on in June. Had oil change at the dealership and check engine light did not come on until July. Dealership said a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2 was causing misfire and a new engine was recommended. This is a 7 year old car with 47K miles. Engine cost was 11+K and I contacted Ford Motor Co. for assistance on August 12, 2024. After numerous phone calls and forwarding documentation Ford says they will reimburse some of the cost. This process has taken over 60 days for me to continue to follow up, (return calls promised, but never happened), request to speak with a supervisor, explain the situation repeatedly to the same "Concern Team" member. Ford Motor Co. knows that engine failure or worse is possible, but does not take responsibility, This should be a MAJOR recall!!!!
