2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:

FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2017 Ford Edge- 60,443 miles.Engine-check engine light came on 3 separate times. Had inspected each time- result was the same- " misfire in cylinder 2" light would go off- car running as usual. Then while driving on the freeway apx 70 mph the warning lights came on that the engine was overheating. This was a very dangerous situation. Immediately took the next exit and pulled into gas station. Five minutes later was able to drive 10 minutes to my home with no incident. The next morning, could not even drive 5 minutes out of my neighborhood before it happened again except this time warnings also included that the car was going into power saving mode. Immediately turned around and took it back home. This problem has been both reproduced and confirmed by both a certified repair shop and a Ford Dealership who both determined that coolant is leaking into cylinder 2 causing the problem. Ford is aware of this and has issued multiple service bulletins regarding this situation but will not put a recall out for this. This is a serious problem.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I bought the car in July 2022 with 62,000 miles for my daughter. The car now has 65,000 miles on it as she only drives back and forth to school. Check engine light came on a month ago then 2 weeks later it overheated with coolant light coming on. It took over a month to get in to the dealership to look at the car. Today they looked at it and told me the coolant had an leaked into the engine due to an engine defect so I would need a new long block engine that will cost about 8,000 to repair. Of course it’s not under warranty and even thigh Ford knows it’s an engine defect and fixed the issue in the replacement they will not cover the charges. They recalled the 1.6 engine but not the 2.0 so now I have to pay for a new engine for a car I just bought for 23,000 a year ago. I was also told even if they do a recall I may not be reimbursed for the cost of the new engine. I am absolutely appalled that a car with 65,000 miles requires a new engine, this is Ford design issue and they are not taking any responsibility. I see there is a class action lawsuit against them for this issue. We are a Ford family owning 3 of them but after this experience I am trading them all in and will never buy a Ford again. All they have to do is the right thing but instead they won’t do it. There is a service bulletin for this exact issue. The dealership is very kind but nothing they can do to help.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

Potential Consequences:

When the vehical was brought to us by 2 sales person , one sales guy told us that everything was good to go that the only issue there was on the car was that they did not have the code to the doors in case we couldn't get in . The same night we noticed that the lights inside were not going off we tried to press buttons to have them go off and nothing, then all of a sudden the lights automatically turned off. As we continued to drive the vehicle we got to our destination ( our home) we got off locked the doors and turned alarm on and we noticed that the lights were still on and couldn't understand why the tailgate/trunk was showing that it was opened when we never had not opened it. When we tried to open it it wouldn't let us. You could hear it trying to open but nothing. Again we assumed that the lights would turn off but the next morning I called and left messages and even on their personal phones asking them to please call me back that it was in regards to the vehical. 9am 10am 11am I got a text back and I had to explain everything over a text. Not once did they ever attempt to make a conversation phone call but to help with the issue on 'getting into ur vehical when the battery is dead I was sent a YouTube link and yet I kindly had asked for a home visit because the main cause for the battery to have drained was because the back door indicator light states that the back door is open but really it was jammed but I got no help from anyone from the dealership. Everytime I called we would get the runaround that they will have someone get in touch with us. But nothing .this is not the only issue we have had with the car there is also a rattling noise coming from either the engine or the front tires again we called them to inform them and yet again the message we got from the car place was that they will have someone be in contact with us shortly but nothing .

TIRES

Potential Consequences:

I was driving when I noticed a light on as I turned the car on as I was driving I saw 4 numbers showing which were the numbers for each tire but the one that was going down at a fast speed was the tire on the driver front tire. I had no blow out ,I had nothing for tire to go flat on me . When I was going to put on the spare that the card had I was not able to do that because I didn't have a jack or anything to change the tire. I had to get a used tire at a tire shop that cost me $60. And noticed that the number is not the same as my 3 other one's

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

In June our 2017 Ford Edge's check engine light came on. We took it to our mechanic who told us it would need a new engine block due to leaking coolant, but that they don't do that. He told us there is a TSB out and advised us to take it to the dealership. We took it to West Hills Ford in Bremerton on July 15 and they confirmed it has the known defect and that it does need a new engine due to the coolant intrusion. For reference, my car has less than 30,000 miles on it, but it is past the 5 year mark that Ford will cover. West Hills Ford has had our car for 3 weeks without working on it because we are trying to get our extended warranty to help cover the cost of a new engine. We are lucky that we dropped it off when we did because we have read about this known issue causing smoke, and even the car catching on fire!

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Check engine light appeared at approximately 59,000 miles. ( just out of warranty as iIwas over the 5 years (expired March 28 2023) but under the 60,000miles. Was able to get an appt at a local dealer at 59483 miles, they did not diagnose issue, as they needed more time, set up another appt 2 weeks later and was told a new engine is needed due to coolant leaking into the engine block. Was told this is a known issue and FORD has since redesigned. Estimated cost to repair of $7000, and first available appt is 12 weeks out I have been told that the car could just stop at some point. Have read on line that major concerns with driving it, if coolant is low, could cause an engine fire. Reached out to FORD Customer Care and after much prompting was told only provide 30-40% assistance. Mind you had this happened prior to March 28 it would have been covered , Great car until now. Do not buy a used 2017 Edge.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

1. The component that failed/malfunctioned was the engine, specific to the coolant spilling into cylinder 3 due to the known design flaw of the 2.0 Eco-boost engine. Is it available upon request for inspection. 2. Regarding safety, upon start, the engine was sputtering (misfiring) and would continue, intermittently throughout the drive. White smoke was emitted through both exhaust pipes. The coolant was running low consistently, would have to refill. 3. The problem has been confirmed at a local repair shop and it's currently at a dealership and has been confirmed to have the misfire/coolant issue. Diagnosis: New Motor/Engine - thousands of dollars! Unacceptable! 4. The vehicle has been inspected by mechanics (repair shop and certified Ford mechanic) 5. Yes. The check engine light came on, the code was P03003 (cylinder 3). This code first appeared on a trip, replaced ignition coil and spark plug, and still the issue persisted.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 2017 Ford Edge has a 4 cylinder EcoBoost Engine. My vehicle warning light came on or about June 20, 2023. I took it to a local mechanic. He advised that it was low on engine coolant, so he refilled it and advised that this type of engine has a known problem with coolant leaks. I next took the vehicle to Sunbelt Ford in Sylvester, GA. The dealership advised that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle. On or about July 24, 2023 I started my vehicle and heavy smoke emitted from the engine and the exhaust. The check engine warning light also came on. I turned off the vehicle and had a local mechanic inspect it. The mechanic advised that I had experienced catastrophic engine failure, and was fortunate that I was not driving at the time. I soon found out that Ford is involved in numerous lawsuits and complaints regarding this exact issue with this exact engine. It’s wildly unethical and dangerous that Ford has not advised all owners of the known problems with this engine. Additionally, I’m 73 years old living on Social Security. It’s $6500 to replace my defective engine as quoted by Robert Hutson Ford in Moultrie, GA.
