Ford Motor Company
NHTSA Campaign: 22V413000 SAFETY RECALL
2.9M Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 10, 2022
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Potential Risk:
A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Recall Date: Aug 11, 2020
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Potential Risk:
A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to begin April 15, 2021. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

Potential Risk:
If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque converters, free of charge. The recall began on July 5, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S16 (S2). Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 17V-427.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

2017 FORD EDGE WITH THE 2.0L ENGINE FAILED AT 73,143 MILES DUE TO COOLANT IN THE CYLINDERS. ORIGINAL CODE WAS A P0301 FOR MISS IN CYLINDER NUMBER ONE. REPLACED PLUGS AND COILS WITH OE FROM DEALER AND PROBLEM PERSISTED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND ENGINE VIBRATION OCCURRED WHILE RUNNING AT IDLE. THERE WAS NO SMOKE EVER FROM THE EXHAUST. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY NOTED LOW COOLANT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NEVER AN OVERHEAT ISSUE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODE STORED. DEALER REFERENCED TSB 19-2346 AND SAID ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL FORD WOULD ASSUME ZERO COST. STILL OWING MONEY ON THE CAR THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION OTHER THAN REPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF $7000. GIVEN WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FREQUENCY OF THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE COUPLED WITH THE WIDE RANGE OF MILES WHEN IT OCCURS FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND AT LEAST PARTNER WITH OWNERS TO HELP WITH THE COST OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT OR FATALITY DEPENDING UPON WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED OR WENT INTO LIMP MODE.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

MY VEHICLE IS A 2017 WITH 87,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CYLINDER #2 MISFIRING, FORD SAID I AM EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR ISSUE THEY ARE HAVING WITH THESE MOTORS WHERE THERE ARE HAIRLINE CRACKS IN THE LONG BLOCK LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND THAT I WILL NEED A NEW ENGINE. FORD IS SAYING IT IS ONLY A BULLETIN AND NOT A RECALL SO I AM HAVING TO PAY FOR A NEW MOTOR OUT OF POCKET FOR A DESIGN FLAW IN THE ENGINE. I AM A RECENT COLLEGE GRAD AND WAS NOT EXPECTING TO PAY $9,000 FOR A NEW MOTOR ON A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE ON TOP OF MY STUDENT DEBT. I EXPECTED A FEW MORE RELIABLE YEARS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND CANNOT RISK HAVING THE ENGINE GO OUT WHILE DRIVING SO I WILL HAVE TO TRY AND GET ANOTHER VEHICLE SINCE THEIR IS NO RECALL FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE THAT THEY'VE REDESIGNED THE NEWER MOTORS TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS.

MY SUNROOF RANDOMLY CRACKED WHILE I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. NOTHING HIT IT SO I WAS CURIOUS IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM.. I LOOKED AROUND ONLINE AND FOUND THAT IT IS IN FACT A COMMON ISSUE WITH SOME PEOPLE'S SUNROOFS EVEN EXPLODING!!! I CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD THE EXACT SAME THING THAT I FOUND EVERYONE ELSE SAYING ONLINE.. THAT FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN MORE THAN ONCE... I AM NOW TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY NEW (TO ME) VEHICLE THAT I JUST BOUGHT 2 MONTHS AGO.. MY GLASS INSURANCE IS GIVING ME ISSUES COVERING THIS BECAUSE IT'S NOT A WINDSHIELD AND I DON'T HAVE $2200 LAYING AROUND TO FIX IT AT THE MOMENT.. HOW LONG UNTIL IT STARTS LEAKING AND CAUSING OTHER ISSUES..???

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THERE WAS NO RESISTANCE, AND I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR TO GET ANY RESISTANCE, AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY SLOWED TO A STOP, TAKING MUCH LONGER THAN USUAL. MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND WIFE WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME AS WELL. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH, ONLY TO SEE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT NEAR THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. UPON GETTING BACK IN THE VEHICLE, I RECEIVED A WARNING THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW. THE VEHICLE HAS 43,000 MILES ON IT, AND WE HAD DRIVEN 20+ MILES EARLIER WITHOUT ISSUE. WE DID NOT RUN ANYTHING OVER OR HIT ANYTHING. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE REGARDING A BRAKE ISSUE, HOWEVER, ON TOWING TO THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED, YET I FEEL THAT IT IS, AND IS TOO COINCIDENTAL TO HAPPEN IN THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE RECALLED PART. THEY TRIED TO TELL ME THAT I MUST HAVE RUN SOMETHING OVER TO CAUSE THE RUPTURE/LEAK, BUT I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE CASE.
