POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
2020 Ford Edge is Surging/Bucking/Jerking when you first take off at low speeds of 20mph or less. This ongoing issue could cause an accident to happen by the vehicle not getting to proper speeds as it should. Took my 2020 Ford Edge to my local Ford Dealer and they Updated the Software to the Transmission per TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 8F35 Transmission. At first it seemed better, but the Surging/Bucking/Jerking quickly came back. Took my Edge back to the Ford Dealership once again but they didn't do anything literally scratching their heads wondering themselves what's up with these Edges transmission.

Defect Description:
STEERING
Potential Consequences:
Forward collision warning stopped working which in turn caused the cruise control to not work. Then the PSCM (power steering control module) just went out all at once. Was driving and it showed warning on the dash. I drove on and parked. When I went to start back, it started fine but couldn’t move steering wheel. I’m seeing this has been a problem with other owners and the same year model. Ford has done a recall on edge for years around 2020 but not that particular year. Gonna cost $2772.59 to fix at dealership. Always owned ford but very disappointed how this happened with very little warning at all. If it had locked up while I was driving it would have been a major accident.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Transmission assembly lost ability to operate in reverse. This happened while attempting to reverse in a public area. I had enough turn radius to get around an obstruction and drive home. While driving home, the vehicle shuttered under acceleration. There were intermittent delays in acceleration also. The vehicle would not reverse out of driveway the next day. Reverse camera engaged, but no movement. The vehicle the illuminated a message of “SHIFT SYS FAULT. Service Required”. I had the vehicle towed to a repair facility for inspection. The Master ASE certified technician found that the fluid smelled burned, but there was not excessive metal shavings in fluid. He determined that the transmission had an internal failure and recommended replacement of transmission. This transmission has 123,000 miles on it. Transmission fluid was manually drained and filled at 119,500 with the manufacturer’s recommended “MOTORCRAFT MERCON ULV AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID #XT12QULV”. I am having the transmission replaced at a cost of $5000. I have owned this vehicle since 108,000 miles.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
No warning lamps came on but while crossing after stopping at a stop sign the car was jerking and did not want to accelerate almost causing me to get hit by another car. This issue has been present since around 45k miles. I’m currently at 85k on odometer. This was the first time I realized how dangerous this can be. I followed all traffic laws and due to the sluggishness of acceleration due to the jerking I was nearly hit. I went to the dealership and they said it was the torque converter gone bad. The same issue that has been the cause of recall on almost every other model of the same year, the 2020 Ford Edge. This has been ongoing issue for Ford because my mother has a 2016 Ford Escape that was recalled for the torque converter. This is costing me a few thousand dollars to repair since they haven’t recalled my particular vin. This will be the reason I never buy a Ford again!!!!!
