Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
The contact owned a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at a fuel pump, the vehicle began rolling backward on its own. The contact attempted to enter the vehicle to stop the momentum; however, the vehicle rolled over her left foot. The vehicle continued to roll backward and hit a curb which stopped the vehicle. A couple and the gas attendant came to the contact aide while another person parked her vehicle. The couple informed the contact that there may have been a recall placed on the vehicle for the failure. The contact stated the Akron Police Dept. said a police report could not be filed because the incident happened on private property.. The contact was taken by her brother to the emergency room where she was treated for injuries to her left foot and right shoulder. The contact sought further treatment for her foot and was placed in physical therapy. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was able to return to the fuel station and drove the vehicle home. The dealer was notified of the failure and towed the vehicle to their location and gave the contact a loaner vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that her vehicle was under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000(Power Train). The dealer notified the manufacturer about the failure and the dealer informed her that a case had been filed. The contact eventually received a letter for the recall on her vehicle. The contact also received a letter from the manufacturer which stated that since the investigators could not replicate the failure with the vehicle; they would not cover any medical bills and that her case was closed. The contact was informed that the recall was performed on the vehicle; however, she refused to take back possession of the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact stated that soon after start of the vehicle, the power steering failed to operate as the "power steering assist, system malfunction" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact's husband arrived at the scene of the failure and managed to drive the vehicle home. Two days later, her husband used excessive effort to drive the vehicle to the dealer where a diagnostic test determined that the rack and pinion had caused of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

Potential Consequences:
While driving at 70 mph on the expressway, the car began jerking forward and having trouble increasing/decreasing speed. It was like the car was skipping. I immediately exited the expressway because my 3 year old daughter was in the car. I drove it to the nearest Ford dealership that I could get the vehicle to safely. I bought the vehicle two weeks ago at Brighton Ford (240 W Grand River Rd, Brighton, MI 48114) on Saturday, July 23, 2022. I have only had the car about two weeks. When I bought the car they sold it to me with a nail in the tire AND an open recall. (The tire has already been replaced) This is absolutely unacceptable. They were in such a rush to make a deal, that nothing was discussed with me that day outside of the transaction including mentioning that there is an open recall (Unintentional Rollaway Due to Detached Shift Cable: A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury!!). I suspect who ever turned it in, did so, specifically because of the recall. Then the dealership turned around and sold it without fixing it, putting my daughter and I in danger. I am now without a vehicle until they can get it fixed. This does not need to happen to anyone else, and we are grateful we did not get into a fatal accident.

While driving at 70 mph on the expressway, the car began jerking forward and having trouble increasing/decreasing speed. It was like the car was skipping. I immediately exited the expressway because my 3 year old daughter was in the car. I drove it to the nearest Ford dealership that I could get the vehicle to safely. I bought the vehicle two weeks ago at Brighton Ford (240 W Grand River Rd, Brighton, MI 48114) on Saturday, July 23, 2022. I have only had the car about two weeks. When I bought the car they sold it to me with a nail in the tire AND an open recall. (The tire has already been replaced) This is absolutely unacceptable. I just had these tires replaced about 2 yrs ago and the front driver's side stated loosing air and upon inspection it is starting to shred. All 4 are doing this but not as back as the front one. This is a safety hazard if they were to come apart while driving it. The warning light came on stating low tire pressure. I only have 36744 miles on this vehicle.this happened on 7 /20/2022.. tire is in my possession but i will have to have it changed. Info is 235/45R19 95M MS DOT A3E6
