ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Backup camera picture frequently shows up scrambled on the screen. Sometimes the picture is fine; often it is impossible to see anything but streaks. It happens all the time. This camera seems to work better when I am on a trip. Possibly related to battery charge, but my battery is only a year old, and the issue has been occurring for a few years. I just saw your website while looking at cars, so I decided to report it.

Defect Description:
UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
This incident happened on July 20, 2023. I was driving to my house when I notice that there was smoke coming out of the glove compartment of my 2017 Expedition EL. I immediately stopped at the median and opened the hood to make sure there was no fire. After that, I walked to the passenger door and when I open the door I noticed a lot more smoke coming from under the glove compartment. I open the glove compartment and notice that there was fire coming from the blower motor and on the wires around it. At this very moment, I find this issue a friend of mine happened to drive by and stopped to ask me if I needed help. He saw what was happening and provided me with 2 bottles of water. We removed the glove compartment and try to put some water toward the fire but it was too late. The fire had spread throughout the dash and subsequently, the entire vehicle was lost. I didn't have time to remove any personal items from the vehicle since the fire spread really fast and also was making a wising sound, believe to be the airbags when they deployed. Even though we have insurance I don't think it is fair for the manufacturer to clean their hand on issues like this, we lost a vehicle and they should find a way to replace it.

Defect Description:
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Driving through a mile-long tunnel on an interstate highway (speed limit 55 mph), the vehicle ceased to respond to the gas pedal and would not accelerate or maintain speed. Attempted to shift gears but that produced no change - it was as if the transmission was stuck in neutral, but pushing the gas pedal did not increase the rpm. As we exited the tunnel at approximately 30 mph, the driver attempted to pull over and stop the vehicle, and found that the power assist for the brakes was not working, making stopping difficult - the driver had to push the brakes very hard, multiple times, to stop the car. We did contact 911 dispatch when we thought we were going to likely impede traffic, as the tunnel only had two lanes traveling the same direction. However, no intervention was required as we reached the end of the tunnel and were able to pull over before the call was completed. The vehicle was towed to a dealership and they diagnosed a fuel pump and/or fuel pump module problem, but have ceased to respond to our calls for the past 48 hours, so we have no further information. The check engine light turned on when the car was restarted, but then later turned off, without any repair work having been completed.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I have been having an issue with an intermittent blower motor not working, it was replaced by ford in November 2022 and as of July 2023 it is needing to be replaced again as I have no a/c or front blower motor again. I have attempted to have this recall fixed and ford still does not have the new part so this will not continue to happen. I currently live in Florida and have 2 small kids with no a/c in our vehicle, the current dealer that I am working with stated I can get a rental car and pay for it out of my own pocket until ford can finally get a new part that will work and hope I will be refunded. They are attempting to order the temporary part again and replace the blower motor for a 2nd time but have advised me they don’t know how long it will take to get the part and when they do get the part they will need my car for 4-5 days with no option of a rental on their dime. I have been dealing with intermittent blower motor issues for almost a year now and ford has not been able to remedy this recall. I feel I am being bounced around and ford is not taking ownership of getting the new fix since 8/26/2022.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The HVAC blower motor connector for the Ford has completely burned out. When in use, it is hot to the touch (too hot too touch sometimes) and emits an electrical burning smell. The HVAC unit now only works on high and if the unit is connected in a certain angle. I took the vehicle into FORD in Kirksville,MO and their technician told me it wasn't covered under the blower motor recall and it was going to cost $600+ to repair. When I asked the technician that upon replacing the part, what would keep it from happening again I was told FORD realized the grounding wire in the connector wasn't strong enough to hold the charge, and they have sense come out with a part where the grounding wire is "heavy duty". When I contacted FORD about the issue they informed me that it was not covered under the blower motor recall and there were currently no programs to cover the repair.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, but went down to the floorboard, and the vehicle hesitated to respond. The message "Low Brake Fluid" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The dealer diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The local Ford dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Wheels: tires were unidernflated to 25 and no dash warning received. Tires inflated to 32. Within a month severe tire bulge appeared no dash warning. Tires now replaced. Power train: yellow wrench on dash, suv went limp after acceleration, suv had limited forward power to pull over to side of road. Shut engine off, restarted, no yellow wrench, no problem for approximately 20 miles. Identical problem occurred 2 more times about 20 miles after the preceding incident. From Ford forums it appears there is an issue with the throttle body, but when taken to Ford for OBD scan no error was found. This 2017 Ford only has been garage kept, gently driven about 34,000 miles.

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Ford Expedition suddenly lost acceleration while driving. This results in the accelerator producing no power, essentially placing the vehicle into neutral. After turning vehicle on & off, it worked properly. Took it into auto repair place & was told this is a common problem and the THROTTLE MOTOR had to be replaced. After replacement, vehicle was towing a boat and the same thing happened and the check engine light came on. However, this time, after about 20 seconds, the vehicle shifted back into gear, the engine light turned off, and vehicle operated properly for the rest of the drive.

SERVICE BRAKES
Potential Consequences:
While driving down the highway, the low brake fluid light sounded and the brake light came on . we slowly loss brakes while driving down the HWy. We added brake fluid, which there was no brake fluid in there at all .When we added the fluid, we pump the brakes and they tighten . Shortly after adding more fluid , the fluid and brakes were gone and white smoke came out of the tail pipe. We never could see exactly where it was leaking at. We added about a quart and a half of fluid . After adding the more fluid, we managed to get it up to the dealership where it was purchased . We explain to what was going on and he knew of the situation because he said it was a recall last year on the master cylinder if I’m saying it, right. I told him that we never received a recall letter but we left the vehicle and he did research by our Vin number, and said we were not part of the recall, but I read a recall number 22S14 about the break failure in expeditions. We called the local number attached to the recall and they once again told us that our vehicle was not part of the recall because I guess it was not out of the Kentucky plant . We are having the same issue with our brakes, but it’s not covered in the current recall. My vehicle is currently in the shop and waiting to be repaired. Can someone research and see if our vehicle can be part of the recall now and be repaired under the/a recall. thank you.
