112.9K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Mar 28, 2025
Safety Issue:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat may inadvertently lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend.

Potential Risk:
Seat belts that do not retract or extend can fail to restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the seat belt retractor date codes and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed May 23, 2025. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. The parts are anticipated to be available the third quarter of 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S31. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I own 2019 Expedition had a powertrain malfunction happened to me around 48k miles a few years back on the I35 by Pauls Valley, OK and we all most got ran off the road. Scary. Was able to get home which was 30 minutes away on back road going about 35mph. Next morning no, light vehicle was fine. I did report this to my local Ford dealer, Charles Allen Ford in Chickasha, OK. Was advised it was most likely due to condensation within a sensor or weather change. I trusted them on their assessment since it hasn’t happened again. This past Monday coming from sons football game which is 26 miles away it happens again, vehicle stalling and we almost got hit by a Semi truck. I currently have 84k miles Next morning was fine. No codes showing and vehicle ran as usual. I told Jim Allen who owns the Charles Allen Ford about this when I seen Tuesday at the local YMCA. he advised probably weather change within a sensor. Told me to bring it for a check and they would take care of me. I didn’t as I don’t have the money to do that, especially after hearing other stories how the dealership kept the vehicle for weeks to months without finding an issue. So I took to my neighbor owns a diesel mechanic shop so we put on lift and check transmission fluid, clear and no flakes. Check lines although I do have a coolant / water hose leakage, which I order the part for. Ford needs to address this issue. I’m a [XXX] who depends on my vehicle to go to much needed VA appointments in Oklahoma City. Please help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Our car is only 2 months out of warranty and has 52,000. I have the 10R80 or 10-speed transmission that is all of the internet. My symptoms include very hard jerks when slowing down while driving, Loss of power when accelerating, and a delay in power when accelerating from a complete stop. I drive 4 kids around and it feels like I am being rear-ended sometimes. The dealerships are well aware of this problem with these cars but will not take action.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I am being told that the Cam Phasers need to be replaced. This is a well known issue to Ford. They did a programming adjustment in 2021, and then did replacements only if you had continued issues up until Jan 2023. I have issues now, and they are telling me I am not covered. The cam phasers have been redesigned so they know they installed poorly designed parts originally. This is an almost $4,000 repair.

SEAT BELTS

Potential Consequences:

While parking my car in my driveway as I turned the car off I heard a loud explosion in the car. There was some smoke coming out of the passenger side seatbelt area of the frame. I could smile gunpowder. The interior trim piece around the seat belt had come loose. There was a warning sign that had come on that day and I was going to check it out this weekend. I had the dealership come and get the car to check it out. I looked at an article from you that this has happened before and I think it was the seatbelt pretensior. Thanks
