Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Explorer vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. Exposure to road salt can cause the cross-axis ball joint to corrode and seize, resulting in a fracture of the outboard section of the rear suspension toe link.

I WENT ON VACATION WITH MY FAMILY FOR A WEEK. WE TOOK MY CAR TO AIRPORT AND PARKED IT FROM 11/8-11/16. I HAD NO PROBLEMS ON THE DRIVE TO THE AIRPORT, BUT WHEN WE CAME HOME, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE (STILL STATIONARY) I HEARD A RUBBING NOSE COMING FROM WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE STEERING COLUMN. DUE TO MY SON'S ALWAYS BEING IN THE VEHICLE I DIDN'T WANT TO CHANCE ANYTHING SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE STEERING RELATED. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO ENDED UP TELLING ME THAT IT WAS MY STEERING RACK. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT ON THE YEAR'S BEFORE MINE THEY HAD TO ISSUE A RECALL DUE TO SIMILAR ISSUES AS MINE.
