Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
While attempting to reverse the vehicle has a delay, or rolls forward, and then vehicle will hard shift into gear quite roughly. the vehicle was taken to the dealership in 02/23 for repair where it spent 2 weeks at a mileage of 5650. the dealership did what they would fix the issue. Well in June 2023 the issue started happening again, and now slips while driving. For as much as i paid for this car, this should not be happening. It is a serious safety hazard that could result in an accident or someone being hurt. My vehicle should not have to go back into the shop again, and Ford needs to resolve these issues, or provide replacement transportation given the amount of time the dealer has to have for repairs. This is my only vehicle. They should replace the transmission, and see if it resolves the issue. This is a know issue, and it needs fixed asap.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The AC has been blowing hot air. I took it to Ford motor service department and they said there was a Freon leak and a hole in the condenser. I had several other mechanics look at it and they said that it is fully charge with Freon, is no leak and the compressor is turning fine. Today it was 108 inside my car with all the windows down driving from work. It is suffocating driving it like that Ford charge me $170 to diagnose it and refused to cover it under warranty. The other mechanics that looked at it do not agree with Ford’s diagnostics and felt that it was an electrical problem that was not allowing communication to properly. Turn the AC on to blow cold air. My vehicle has been in the service department for other times for electrical issues. I also reached out to Ford to see if there was a lemon law regarding my 2022 Explorer. They told me because my car was over 24,000 miles I would not qualify my only option at this point is to trade in the vehicle, which they are giving me $14,000 less on because of the electrical issues at Ford . I’m a registered nurse, working full-time and a single mom with a daughter that is going through chemotherapy right now. I really expected the dealership to be more honest and their service department about what is actually going on with a car and actually try to help us. Instead, I believe they’re being dishonest and not assuming what is really wrong with the vehicle. I’m hoping that you guys will help consumers like myself by informing us to make better decisions when purchasing a new vehicle. Thank you in advance for everything that you do.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I was backing up at low speed (less than 1 mph) to park by gently letting my foot off the brake to back. I was using the rear backup camera to gauge how far I could go back without striking the vehicle behind me. The screen showed video that I was still several feet away from the vehicle behind me when I felt a sudden bump. I stepped on the brake hard to ensure I was no longer moving but the camera still showed several feet between my rear bumper and the vehicle behind me. I put the vehicle in park and got out to verify that I had struck the vehicle behind me. I had. I returned to the driver’s seat, put the vehicle back in reverse to see what the camera showed and now it appeared on the screen that my bumper was touching the vehicle behind me. The video on the screen had absolutely froze while I was backing, which contributed to me making an error in judgement while backing, causing me to strike the vehicle behind me. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office (Illinois) completed a crash report. SOPC23-08519

Additional Notes:
I was backing up at low speed (less than 1 mph) to park by gently letting my foot off the brake to back. I was using the rear backup camera to gauge how far I could go back without striking the vehicle behind me. The screen showed video that I was still several feet away from the vehicle behind me when I felt a sudden bump. Potential Consequences:
2022 Ford Explorer bought brand new from dealership, began noticing lagging in vehicle when going from DRIVE to REVERSE. Car will stall between drive and reverse in the neutral position for a period of time longer than normal (up to 10 seconds). This occurs on a regular basis, multiple times while blocking a road or parking lot while attempting to back into a parking spot, at which time vehicle appears to be in neutral and will roll forward or backward if not holding the brake which could cause the vehicle to hit buildings, people, other cars, etc. Only one warning light came on at one time stating “Transmission Fault stuck in park” and vehicle would not move or go into another gear. Vehicle taken to a ford dealer at which time they stated they did see the fault, did an update on the computer system which seemed to stop it and if it persisted the shifter would need replaced. Within only 1-2 days after leaving the dealership the car began to regularly and recurrently have the same fault of delaying from drive to reverse. This issue does not seem to occur when going from Park to reverse. This appears to be a persistent complaint from owners specifically of 2022 Ford Explorers.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Potential Consequences:
1. My 2022 Explorer limited purchased mid Dec 2022 began having issues during shifting of gears and would stutter before jolting or would drive in the opposite direction when shifting btwn gears starting in Feb 2023. Ford would not give me an appt until may. In March I put the car in reverse in front of my child's daycare, it drove forward, hit a large vase and damaged the front end. Ford was contacted and again told me the earliest they could get me an appt was may. I recorded all events from there forward. In May my car was inspected and numerous error codes were found. One of which was a "gear shift lock solenoid/actuator circuit 'A' range/performance". They ultimately fixed the faulty shifter. But refuse to repair the front end damage to the vehicle caused by the malfunctioning shifter stating "I should have braked". There was a list of error codes they told me have been addressed but on the final invoice it also states one has not. But they have refused to provide me with a list of interpretation for the errors codes. 2. This faulty gear shift could have resulted in severe injury to myself or a bystander. When I contacted ford after the accident they continued to disregard my safety concerns and would not provide me w an early appointment to investigate these serious problems 3. See answer 1 4. No. The car functioned normally from purchase date in mid December to mid-late Feb when symptoms began without warning and occurred intermittently until the car was assessed the first week of May
