FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Coolant leaked into a cylinder due to a failed head gasket at 61,000 miles. Ford replaced head gasket, but the issue is due to poorly manufactured engine, and I had the same issue starting again at 99,000 miles. Ford refuses to fix engine since it is out of warranty, but the issue is due to poor manufacturing, not customer negligence.

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Component failure: Engine -- Catastrophic engine failure due to coolant leakage onto the engine block. EcoBoost engine. Dealership confirmation that car engine will need full replacement - car essentially scrap metal without new engine. At the time of this failure car had approximately 40,000 miles odometer read total on it and maintenance was up to date. Personal safety - I was driving the car on a Freeway with other vehicles at approximately 65 mph and the entire car began to shudder and I lost the ability to accelerate. The road was on an uphill trajectory and I was in the middle lane - I had to navigate my vehicle to the right hand lane and off the freeway at the next exit - I and others were at high risk of a collision due to the severity and sudden failure of the engine while on a busy road. Dealer confirmation: Dealership had specific codes on the diagnostics decribing this issue. Repair offered was replacement of the long block with a Ford engine that had been modified to fix the coolant leakage problem. Essentially Ford was offering a new TYPE of engine instead of a fix with the same model the car originally had. Dealership was aware of this engine coolant issue with Ecoboost, they revealed Ford was aware of the issue but never issued a recall. We were given the customer complaint line and were told FORD has been offering SOME people new engines at no cost. We were rejected by Ford customer line and told to file a complaint here. Essentially described by dealership repair as need to replace the long block (entire engine) to fix the problem or replace the short block only to expect it to happen again. The cost to replace the long block was quoted at 9500.00. Inspection and repair worksheets available from owner. Warning signs: NONE. Check engine light came on approximately 30 seconds AFTER symptoms on freeway began.

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

Loss of power steering and multiple codes light up on dash about an hour prior to loss. Experienced a slow escalation of having difficultly steering of approx 1-2 days where steering did not seem as responsive. Was able to return home, but upon restart i had no power steering steering and multiple diagnostics failure lights coming on [Steering Loss Stop Safety, Service Advance Trac, Hill Start assist not available]. This currently is in a state of not being able to drive. Losing power steering assist puts safety at jeopardy at any speed to not allow for any fine movement or directional control. If this happened at any rate of speed this is a concern. It being the weekend I will need to discuss with my local mechanic as well as local dealership on course of action. I have tried to restart several times with the warnings and still lack of steering

Potential Consequences:

The ABS System light , The traction off and on at the same time, the advanced track light, and finally the tire pressure monitor fault I belive is what it says. The lights came on one day when I crossed over railroad tracks that were a little rough nothing that should damage anything on a vehicle. one after another the lights began coming on. The steering is very tight and makes it hard to drive. When I go over bumps or any uneveness in the roadway the car will shift making the steering wheel jerk and the car to swerve. When you push on the brakes at times it feels like they are skipping and making a weird skipping sound as well. I thought it was needing the brakes so I got all for sides new brakes and rotors. That did not help either. I had a diagnostic scan done the car but it did not pick up anything but an h20 sensor so I got that repaired. I don't know why this is happening and I'm a single mother/grandmother. I cannot afford to spend a lot of money trying to fix these issues.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

While traveling at a high rate of speed of 75 mph, on the highway, my brakes failed, the brake pedal was pushed to the floor. The car was hesitant to shift/accelerate. Upon trying to get some type of braking remedy i almost crashed from off the bridge that i was trying to merge on to. upon trying to stop the car i went up a small grade which brought the car to a stop with the emergency brake on. While out of the vehicle the back, driver side caliber caught flame with bluish and greenish flames from the brake fluid coming out, being the metal was at an extreme temperature. I thankfully had my children's drinks/slushies in the car to throw on the flame to stop the spread and to put the flames out. I had to call for a tow truck to get myself and children off the side of the highway. After a $172.98 bill, the car was towed home. I contacted the dealership, which was then told i was responsible to pay and have it towed yet again to the dealerships lot. I have contacted the ford manufacture customer service line, dealership and the number for the recall notice multiple times to get my car fixed and have yet to receive adequate help in doing so.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My ecoboost Ford Engine in my 2016 Fusion leaks coolant into my 1, 3 and 4 cylinders, over heated, smoke coming out of exhaust, using coolant. I took it to the Ford dealer to have it checked out when all of a sudden while driving the red temp light went off and my check engine light started blinking with a warning light saying critical temperature and I had to pull off side of highway, they said it needs a new motor, he also said it was common for this size engine to have issues, Ford had been dealing with that it was a design flaw............yet they won't fix it free or recall it. they want $8500 for a new engine, which I can't afford, so a car I own and owe on just sits undriveable. He said they offered an extended warranty to replace the short block on 2017 -2019 but mine is 2016 so no extra help was given to people who owned that year, even though its the same engine, flaws and all.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

When audio system is turned on or volume is turned on, loud cracking booming and static noise comes through at random moments. More noise occurs while driving 55+ but still occurs when idiling. The audio occurrence has almost caused several accidents since its loud ear piercing noises that comes from speakers. I have taken it to the ford technician to no avail. Due to other forums this is a issue with most fusions. The noises started occurring after my back up camera was replaced.
