Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Vehicle enters "Deep Sleep" mode NEARY EVERY DAY and all 12 volt systems such as lighting are not useable. Vehicle will NOT START sometimes when Deep Sleep mode occurs. No matter how much we charge the 12v battery, this deep sleep issue will return within 1 day. Dealer has not fixed this issue after "supposedly" checking it out on a few visits to Livermore Ford Dealership. It has now been over 2 1/2 years of this problem with no fix.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
vehicle suddenly lost power while travelling at freeway speeds, and decelerated to 35 mph with no speed control. All electrical systems showed warning lights, and I was suddenly driving 30 mph under traffic speeds at a freeway interchange with no escape lanes or emergency lanes for half a mile. I am a paramedic with extensive EVOC training, and I can say with my extensive experience that this was a near-fatal situation, only avoided by the attentive drivers around me, and I almost created chain collisions attempting to maneuver to the side until there was a breakdown lane accessible. Vehicle had all electrical systems in warning, and vehicle automatically set the parking break before I put it in park. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times with no success. The vehicle entered a battery mode which did not allow use of the accelerator pedal, and automatically drove the care at 30-35 mph with only breaking control to control speed. I was able to limp the vehicle off the freeway in the breakdown lane, and move it to a safe location. This event was an extreme hazard to myself and all around me, and I compliment the semi driver behind me on his quick response to the sudden deceleration of my vehicle. Note I own 2 of these vehicles, a 2022 and a 2023, and both have experienced this issue.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Two issues. There are times when I close my driver side door when I am outside the car with my keys in the ignition, car is on and the door locks. Luckily I am able to get in because I have Ford number combination unlock but this can be a serious issue for others. I also have been dealing with bad CV boot issues. Passenger side CV boot leaked and made the truck wobble at around 22k miles. Driver side CV boot is now having issues at 24k miles. This is problem is known in the forums and the mileage before CV goes bad can vary. Ford is currently fixing but no new parts or modifications are made to CV that will make the part better.

Like many others with the Ford Maverick I started experiencing shaking of the truck on the highway which progressively got worse. Upon check it was 2 bad CV axles which seems to be go bad prematurely. This was at around 20,000. The truck has about 37,000 now and it is starting to happen again slowly which I am sure in the next 5000-10000 It will get worse and worse. How many more complaints from owners will Ford make a replacement part that is up to par with quality and not replace it every 20,000? This is dangerous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Front passenger seat, seat heating element malfunctioned - created a small fire and smoke produced. Dealership diagnosed as 'a couple of hot spots that burned through the cover.' It is available for inspection. Fire hazard caused burn on passenger, smoke inhalation. Smoke/fire started while driving at 55mph, resulted in sudden breaking and pulling off the road. Yes, the dealer found hot spots that caused the burning - but take no responsibility for the issue as that car has 56000 miles. No, it has only been inspected by Ford dealership. No warning lamps, no symptoms until physical burning sensation prior to the smoke/fire.
Corrective Action:

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
After completing all recalls at the dealer, most recently the PCM re-programming, my 2022 Maverick Hybrid engine would just stop running with no warning. Electrical system was intact, there was no response to the gas pedal. Car would just slow down and I had to pull over. I pressed the stop button, sat for a few seconds and pushed it again and the vehicle started and ran properly. This has happened three times over the past 3 months (most recently on [XXX]) while driving at night at highway speeds, during the day at 50 mph and 35 mph. All acted the same way. I only caught what may have been a part of a warning message on the dash that I believe said "connected" after the first incident. The truck has been at the West Richmond, VA Ford dealership for the past 10 days and they have not been able to diagnose the problem. This is a very dangerous situation and I can't drive the vehicle until a fix has been found and implemented. The NHTSA issued a report on a similar situation back in April of this year (24V267000) so it appears like Ford has not provided their dealers with a satisfactory answer to this problem. My truck did not exhibit an electrical shutdown or flash numerous trouble codes or the check engine light. The engine simply shuts off for no apparent reason. The technicians see nothing recorded in the onboard computer(s) either. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING
Potential Consequences:
At approximately 41k miles driven, and upon accelerating and at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate and shimmy. Some days the shimmy is slight, other days it was severe. Only happens with the gas pedal pressed. Resolves when gas pedal is not engaged. Took to dealer 8.26.2024 and confirmed CV Joint failure. TBD on warranty repair in the next few days. Since it is common knowledge that CV Joints should last 80k-100k miles, this is not acceptable and a danger to passenger, driver, and others on the road. Also, there is marked chatter among Maverick owners via online forums who are also encountering early failure of the CV Joints. Thank you for your prompt investigation into this dangerous situation and important safety matter.
