Potential Consequences:

Our vehicle would flash a "Front Camera fault service required" and a "Collision Warning not available" every now and then that started a few months ago. I had it diagnosed by the dealer and they said it would cost me $786.50 to do a major update on IPC, IPMA, PSCM, CCM, CMR, and perform IPMA Alignment per TSB 23-2040. We have to pay this because we are out of warranty. We thought all system upgrades are supposed to be free. Wouldn't this be a flaw on the Mach-e and should be considered a standard safety issue that needs to be corrected at no cost to the car owner? I saw that many owners also have the same issue. Our family including a [XXX] may be at risk because of this. Appreciate your help on this. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

For over a year I got this warning that said pre collision assist not available. And it would go away after a few minutes. A few weeks ago it never left. Now I have that error as well as adaptive cruise not available. I cannot use my cruise control. I just recently had another issue and paid over 3 thousand. Now ford wants to give me another quote for 3 thousand. I searched and I'm not the only one with issue. This should he a recall problem as we are all having same issue.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Mach e standard edition shows multiple signs of a failing High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB). The vehicle was bought certified pre owned with only 12k miles on the vehicle. At 16k miles (2 months of ownership) the vehicle showed a high voltage battery warning and power train malfunction warning. Three warning lights were displayed on the dash which were: a yellow turtle, wrench, and car with exclamation. Vehicle was taken to service department where they ran updates and said the issue was a one pedal drive error and ran a standard osp for a power train update (not related to this power train issue). They made no mention of the battery and power train issue on the service record. 1-2 weeks later and about 1k miles, the same issue repeated. The vehicle was taken to a different dealership where they indicated the car had a over heating charge coupler and unbalanced battery "A". Both of these show a probable issue with the HVBJB. The dealership has been insistent that they can't do anything without a stored code. Prior OSP's updated the car to limit power when contactors in the HVBJB exceeded .5 ohms and would show all the warnings we have seen. The main 12 volt battery was replaced at 1k miles, which Ford did not realize the failure could have been from the HVBJB, as it receives charge from the primary batteries. The dealership and Ford engineers have requested that we drive the vehicle until the safety lights repeat, knowing that this puts us in danger of a larger malfunction that could result in complete loss of power while driving. They say that they cannot work on an issue unless a code is tripped. I suspect a code will not trip as the first two times nothing was stored and the OSP patch that NHSTS requested helps prevent the complete failure. The code will only be stored in a complete failure event, which could lead to an accident. There are current recalls for this HVBJB, however it is only for the higher end models. Out of space :) Thanks

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I bought a certified pre-owned 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. The brakes always kind of made a grinding but i figured it was the brake dust on the rotor since the car had sat on the lot for a while. I took the car into Maplecrest Ford in Union, NJ for this issue and they replaced the rear brakes under warranty. Shortly after that I felt a vibrating on the highway, I figured it could be the brakes bedding in. After that it became more persistent and I took the car to the dealer on [XXX] and they told me the front brakes had to be replaced. The car was purchased with 16,500 miles, went to the dealer at 17,000 miles and has 17,500 miles right now. It is impossible to believe that brakes on an EV (where most braking is regenerative) need to be replaced down to the caliper. I read Ford TSB 22-2023: Vibration/Pulsation From Brakes - Brake Pad Material Stuck To Rotor - Built On Or Before 06-Jan-2022 that describes this very issue. Ford essentially notes that pad material will become dislodged and get attached to the rotor. That they're not replacing this under warranty and that they haven't issued a recall for brake pads they've already redesigned because they can break apart is extremely dangerous. There's notes of this happening to cars on Mach-e message boards and Ford is aware because they've issued a TSB: [XXX] (for example). I would strongly encourage the NHTSA to implore a recall before someone gets hurt. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

There is a permanent fault on the front camera of the vehicle, making it unavailable. This has permanently disabled the vehicle's pre-collision safety feature. The adaptive/normal cruise control is also unavailable because of this. Prior to the permanent issue, the fault would occur randomly and without warning, creating an extremely hazardous condition, especially while utilizing the vehicle's "one-pedal" feature. Under this condition (using adaptive/normal cruise control and the one-pedal function), the fault would occur abruptly and without warning, cruise control would fail and the vehicle would brake simultaneously, without driver action. Several times, while driving on the highway, this happened to me. I was fortunate enough to not get in an accident. The dealerships have been unwilling to address my safety concerns. Please see to it that this is resolved. I have seen many consumer forums with this same issue.
