Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Passport and Pilot vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.

Potential Risk:
Overcured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation, which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019-2020 Passport, and 2019-2021 Pilot vehicles. Incorrect instrument panel control module software can cause the instrument panel to not display critical information, such as engine oil pressure, speedometer, and gear selector position until the next ignition cycle. Additionally, it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Potential Risk:
Operating a vehicle without a functioning instrument panel or rearview camera display increases the risk of a crash.

Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Pilot, 2019-2020 Odyssey and 2019-2020 Passport vehicles. Incorrect central network software programming may cause several errors to occur that can delay or prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Potential Risk:
A delayed or inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Potential Risk:
In the event of a crash, incomplete body welding may provide inadequate protection to occupants, increasing the risk of an injury.

Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

Warning system failure… all lights lit and systems did not work.car was drivable but with no safety mitigation systems. Happened suddenly while driving on hwy. displayed the following warnings: Transmission System Problem Blind Spot Info System Problem Power Steering System Problem Emissions System Problem Vehicle Stability Assist Problem Hill Start Assist Problem Traffic Stability Assist Problem Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Rear tailgate did latch not working The D for drive was blinking These safety systems put my driving at risk as I rely on them for safe driving, lane change ..etc Brought to dealer for second time and they insist I leave the vehicle on so they can check the error codes. Even had ready made sign “ do not turn vehicle off” for dashboard. Seems like significant problem and I’m not the only one. Evidenced by chatter on Honda web forums. My question is, why do all system failure lights activate? Why can’t they determine the failure after car is turned off. Isn’t that the purpose of fail codes? Why do all safety functions fail when one issue arises. Evidence points to a software bug that effects all these functions (yes including the rear latch) Dealer recommends replace the ABS module but is not sure. Last time they replaced the speed sensor. Seems they are unsure. Needs software fix !

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

My vehicle is currently subject to recall 23V-858. I never received a recall letter. I am currently an active duty service member attempting to have my vehicle shipped to Hawaii in conjunction with a PCS. The government will not ship my vehicle until Honda provides me with a letter confirming that there is currently no fix for 23V-858. Can you please help me get something from them ? I have already contacted several local dealerships as well as their corporate office and no one will help me. Thanks !

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Potential Consequences:

I contacted my local Honda dealership on May 20, 2024 and was told that there are no parts available to address and correct this recall (NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-858), and that American Honda Motor Co., Inc. has stated that there would be no parts available "until late this year." This is a safety issue that, should failure occur during vehicle operation and/or in motion, would render the vehicle instantly inoperative. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. should immediately expedite the manufacture, shipment, and replacement of these potentially defective fuel pump modules to address this risk to vehicle operators.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

The vehicle does not restart after entering 'Auto Idle Stop' even with latest software update by Honda. About 2 month ago, my car started to act weird and stopped restarting during traffic stops, causing dangerous situations. (I was waiting in the intersection to make left turn and the vehicle was stopped in the middle) I went to Honda dealership for repair, and they explained that its known issue and can be solved by software update. They promised that it won't happen again, but starting few days ago, it is doing it again. I went to the dealership again, and they are now saying that they have to replace the starter. I don't think it is a safe approach to let customer "test" the software and replace problematic part depending on the test outcome. I feel like Honda should update the software AND replace starter.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

Potential Consequences:

Started my vehicle and drove about a mile before my brake system lights came on. They were sporadically coming on , but now it's a continuous issue. I would like to know is there some kind of recall on vehicles that are experiencing issues with the ACC, COLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, BRAKE SYSTEM, LKAS, AUTO HIGH BEAM, and ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION lights staying on . I only have 28,000 miles on my 2019 Passport Elite. So it's no longer un warranty. I see that a number of people on the Honda Forums are experiencing the same issues. As a loyal Honda owner, I must say I've had more issues and recalls with this one. Too many for an almost $50,000 vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

The Automatic Emergency Braking system has gone off multiple times on my 2019 Honda Passport since purchasing it in February 2021. Only a few of those times was necessary, the rest have either been an annoyance or have created more of a hazard when driving. This was especially true when the braking system dramatically reduced the speed of the Honda passport while traveling on an interstate highway, passing a truck while additional vehicles were traveling at the same speed behind me. I lost full control of the car for a minute and which only exacerbated the situation. I’m very fortunate a crash did not occur in that moment. I have never had this component looked at, but have only had the car serviced at Honda dealerships and have had the camera re calibrated a few times now. There were no warning signs, a giant “BRAKES” flashes on the dash once the system has been triggered into action, but there’s no way I’m aware to stop it once it’s been triggered, there’s only the option to turn the entire system off ahead of it being triggered. This issue has been happening as long as I can remember, but is generally bad on high traffic multi lane roads and single lane roads where traffic is consistent from the other direction.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I have had 4 instances of driving on the highway that my vehicle applied the brakes automatically. My safety was put at risk because in those instances I was driving at highway speeds and the brakes were applied on their own with no obstruction in front of me. Someone could have rear ended me. I am not able to reproduce the problem on command, but it has occurred multiple times. The car has not been inspected for this issue. The only warning I received was the alert that gets triggered when the brakes apply automatically. I do recall that in 3 of the 4 times the incident has occurred, my right turn signal was applied.
