Recall Date: Mar 11, 2021
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Passport and Pilot vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.

Potential Risk:
Overcured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation, which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect all four tires and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 22, 2021. Owners may contact American Honda Motor Co. customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is UA2.

Recall Date: Jul 28, 2020
Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019-2020 Passport, and 2019-2021 Pilot vehicles. Incorrect instrument panel control module software can cause the instrument panel to not display critical information, such as engine oil pressure, speedometer, and gear selector position until the next ignition cycle. Additionally, it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Potential Risk:
Operating a vehicle without a functioning instrument panel or rearview camera display increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the instrument panel control module software, free of charge. The recall began September 23, 2020. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is T89.

Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Pilot, 2019-2020 Odyssey and 2019-2020 Passport vehicles. Incorrect central network software programming may cause several errors to occur that can delay or prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Potential Risk:
A delayed or inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:

Owners have the option to either follow the mailed instructions to download and update the software for free, or visit a dealer to have the software update performed, free of charge. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 219, "Windshield Zone Intrusion."

Potential Risk:
In the event of a crash, incomplete body welding may provide inadequate protection to occupants, increasing the risk of an injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle for missing welds, free of charge. If the vehicle is identified as missing welds, the dealer will offer to repurchase the vehicle or provide a similar replacement vehicle. Owner notification began November 6 2019. Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

I have had 4 instances of driving on the highway that my vehicle applied the brakes automatically. My safety was put at risk because in those instances I was driving at highway speeds and the brakes were applied on their own with no obstruction in front of me. Someone could have rear ended me. I am not able to reproduce the problem on command, but it has occurred multiple times. The car has not been inspected for this issue. The only warning I received was the alert that gets triggered when the brakes apply automatically. I do recall that in 3 of the 4 times the incident has occurred, my right turn signal was applied.

Defect Description:

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

The monocular camera, part 36160-TGS-A13 failed. This camera drives the vast majority of safety features on the Honda Passport. Those affected features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, Parking Collision Warning, Automatic High Beam Control, and more. This vehicle has not been in a collision or subjected to any reason that would disable the camera. This camera, and apparently a significant number of others of this same model number appear to simply be defective. American Honda (and the dealers) indicate that the part is backordered with no ETA for restock, yet OEM part suppliers have the part readily available for one day delivery at $600. A quick search of the internet reveals this part failure is common, and the dealer response of backorder with no ETA seems to be a standard response. The one dealer I dealt with indicated they are personally handling 2 such cases at this exact moment. Given the more than 1,000 Honda Dealerships in the country, this indicates that it is more than possible that over 2,000 newer model Honda vehicles are driving on the roads throughout the country with the vast majority of their safety features disabled. DTC Code provided by the dealer is U3000-49. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by Norm Reeves Honda Dealer at their Huntington Beach California location. The resulting component failure causes nearly every warning light on the vehicle to turn on.

SUSPENSION

Potential Consequences:

Rear tires wearing out inside prematurely due to wheel alignment got off, install all new tires and did wheel alignment and found out that camber adjustment required to fix the issues but repair shop and even Honda dealer can’t adjust camber settings since camber is not adjustable in 2019 Honda passport. Honda dealership told me to go somewhere else and have them install aftermarket camber adjustable kit? Totally unacceptable. If can’t fix this problem then my tires will wear out prematurely again. Honda should recall this and have it replace with adjustable camber.

Potential Consequences:

On two occasions this summer, after coming to a complete stop at an intersection, the car initially failed to restart (with the stop-start feature in use). On both occasions I was able to restart it within 30 seconds. Other than temporarily inconveniencing the drivers behind me, so far this has not yet caused a bigger problem. I have not yet tried to have a dealer or independent service center reproduce or confirm the problem. If any type of message appeared when this happened, it appeared too briefly for me to notice or read it. This problem appears to me to be the same that has been reported for some Honda Pilots and other models. This Passport has a 3.5 liter V6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission.

I also had to purchase a new battery as I was told this is what was the issue by dealership and my battery was out of warranty
