Safety Issue:

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling all Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Covers, part number 08Z07-T6Z-100F, sold for installation on 2017-2020 Ridgeline trucks. A separated panel may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash or injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Honda will notify all registered owners of 2017-2020 Honda Ridgelines, and dealers will install tethers onto any Honda Genuine Accessory Tonneau Cover to prevent panel separation and apply warning labels, free of charge. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear wiring harness and related components, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KD3.

Hood latch recall. Inspected & partially repaired by Classic Honda of Midland, TX on 02/08/2022. There are cracks around the hood striker, & I have pictures. It says on invoice that it was submitted to DPSM. I have called the dealership service department several times & the advisor has not returned my calls about the results of DPSM. I called Honda customer service & she told me they can do nothing because each dealership is privately owned. The hood vibrates still & looks like it will fly off in windstorms & passing semis on interstates. The blue rectangles on picture were drawn by the service technician.

REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILURE I opened and closed the rear tailgate a couple days ago, and the Rear View Camera stopped displaying when the vehicle is in reverse. Just a black screen for a while, then, the guidance lines show up, still with no picture. I have not taken this to the dealer yet, but on RIDGELINEOWNERSCLUB.COM, this appears to be a common problem, caused by a broken wire harness near the tail gate hinge.

Potential Consequences:

When reversing, I've had several instances over the past several years where the backup screen just went to black (Head unit displays black, with the guide marks.) i figured it was a software issue. However, when the back-up camera ceased working I googled the issue with "2017 Honda Ridge-line and backup camera" and found that severed wires at the tailgate left corner hinge area is a common issue. I found the harness broken at the pivot point of tailgate. (Left bottom corner of tailgate)Tailgate wiring exposed in hinge. Plastic cover has split/separated. I am a sixty-three year old female so I'm not using the tailgate/truck bed very much. I took it to the dealership (04/12/22); they told me they have not had any reported instances of this issue and then requested how I broke the harness! They quoted me a price to purchase/replace the harness; however, since this seems to be an issue across 2017 -2019 Ridge-lines with the wiring loom not having enough slack, combined with the 90° bend at the tailgate, allowing the thin metal edge of the tailgate to press directly against the wiring, especially when the tailgate is fully swung open. I believe Honda should replace the harness under a TSB.
