Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2016-2018 K900 and 2014-2016 Sportage vehicles. The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) module could malfunction and cause an electrical short, which could result in an engine compartment fire.

Safety Issue:
Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Optima, 2012-2017 Sorento and 2011-2018 Sportage vehicles that previously received an engine replacement under recall number 17V-224, warranty, or the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) Product Improvement Campaign. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, possibly causing a fuel leak.

AT THIS TIME THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 29,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD THE OIL CHANGED ABOUT 4 WEEKS PRIOR. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE ALL THE FLUIDS AND FOUND THE CAR HAD VERY LITTLE OIL IN IT. WE WERE SURPRISED SINCE NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON AND WE HAD JUST CHANGE THE OIL. HE PUT OIL IN IT AND WATCHED IT AND AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL IN THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAIN ALL OF THIS. AT THIS TIME THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 29,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD THE OIL CHANGED ABOUT 4 WEEKS PRIOR. MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE ALL THE FLUIDS AND FOUND THE CAR HAD VERY LITTLE OIL IN IT. WE WERE SURPRISED SINCE NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON AND WE HAD JUST CHANGE THE OIL. HE PUT OIL IN IT AND WATCHED IT AND AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL IN THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAIN ALL OF THIS. THEY TOOK A PICTURE OF THE INSIDE OF MY MOTOR AND SAID IT WAS LIKE SLUDGE THEN PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER AND BLAMED EVERYTHING ON US VOIDED THE WARRANTY . THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN OVER ABOUT 45MPH. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE WAS AN OIL DELIVERY SYSTEM PROBLEM THAT CAUSES EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THIS MOTOR THAT KIA IS REFUSING TO DEAL WITH IT. AFTER REVIEWING THIS RESEARCH I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE BECAUSE THERE WERE REPORTS THAT THE ENGINE SEIZES AND CATCHES ON FIRE.
