Nissan North America, Inc.
NHTSA Campaign: 25V437000 SAFETY RECALL
443.9K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 26, 2025
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Potential Risk:
Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the engine control module. For vehicles with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed August 22, 2025. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, around Q4 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

9.7K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Feb 28, 2024
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Potential Risk:
Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

Potential Risk:
An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There is a strong odor of gasoline in the cabin of the vehicle when driving. The gasoline smell is also strong in the front of the car. I cannot park the vehicle in the garage due to the smell. I am afraid of a fire. I contacted Nissan who said they were aware of this issue and said they were investigating, but have no solution. Even though they have been aware of this issue since the 2022 model came out and never contacted me and continued selling the vehicle. I took the car to Mankato Nissan for inspection who verified the odor but said they could not find anything and had no solution.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

After about 1000 miles I started noticing a gasoline smell inside and outside the vehicle. When I return the vehicle to my garage after driving and let it sit for awhile the garage reeks of the smell of gasoline. This smell has been noticed by many other people in and around the vehicle. I brought it to the Nissan dealership. They checked the fuel system for any leaks, found none and sent me home. I have lung issues and this gasoline odor is affecting my breathing when in and near the vehicle.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

My 4.5 month old Rogue, with a little over 3000 miles on it, stopped dead from at 55 mph on a highway at night. The battery started but the engine would not engage or start. At the start of the drive the fuel gauge registered about 1/2 tank, but after driving only a relatively short distance, it suddenly went to just above the 'red warning zone' and showed about 157 driving miles left in the tank. I believe that the tank was actually empty and the gauge was faulty, because on a hunch the tow guy added some gas and the car started! I was in danger because I was stranded in the left lane of a highway at night and even with my hazard lights on, cars were barely missing me. One could easily have rammed into me - especially waiting over 2 hours for a tow with my hazars starting to dim - causing injury or even death. The dealer service dept was not able to spot the problem (or reproduce it), and because the computer did not show a code said they had nothing to repair! Upon picking up the car and refilling the tank, the gauge only registered 1/2 a tank, so I scheduled service to replace the fuel gauge. I hope this is the proper fix, but the service dept can't vouch for that. When it went dead, the dash said "engine malfunction". I am terrified of driving this car at night or on a highway!!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The 2023 Nissan Rogue which we bought in January 2923 smells of exhaust inside the car while running. We have experienced it when the car was just being started up after being parked and also while driving. It is off and on and hard to replicate for dealer. The exhaust smell is so strong that windows have to be opened and it is still nauseating. The garage smells of gasoline sometimes when the car is parked and off. This is also off and on. We bought this car for college age student to drive and are concerned about health issues from breathing in the exhaust as well as fire concerns.

Potential Consequences:

Strong odor of gas both inside and outside the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to dealership for warranty repair and dealership stated there is a known issue with the 2023 Rogue however Nissan does not know what the issue is or how to fix it but they are working on a fix. Over one month later and multiple conversations with consumer affairs they are refusing to fix or replace the car. There are health concerns as we drive a lot and experience headaches and dizziness from the smell as well as the safety concerns as they have no idea what is causing the odor and gasoline is highly flammable. ***Note on the 2nd visit to dealership they were able to duplicate the odor.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I am the owner of a 2023 Nissan Rogue with 3,500 miles on it. During the last few weeks I have noticed a strong smell of raw gas entering the passenger compartment while driving. It happens with or without the HVAC system working. Sometimes it is stronger than other times. I have opened up the hood and have found no visible leaks. There are also no leaks under the vehicle. I have researched this issue on the internet and have found several sites with similar complaints. There also appears to be a new class-action lawsuit being reviewed about this issue. Many consumers have brought their vehicles into the dealers for this issue with no results. It appears that the situation is under review by NIssan. I urge the NHTSA to look into this matter due to the safety risk to consumers. Thank you

The vehicle has a very poor low volume horn. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Within a week of driving the vehicle, I began to notice a strong gasoline smell when I parked the car. The issue became even more evident when I parked the car in my garage, as the garage would quickly fill with the unmistakable odor of gasoline. The smell is so persistent that it remains in the garage even the following morning. Due to concerns about the accumulation of gas fumes and the potential risk of ignition, I have resorted to parking the car outside. However, the issue extends beyond just parking; when I am stuck in traffic or idling, the gas fumes infiltrate the cabin of the vehicle, producing a strong and overpowering odor. The intensity of the fumes is such that it induces feelings of nausea, and I am deeply concerned about the health and safety implications for both me and my family. Despite being aware of the severity of the situation, I am left with limited options as I do not have an alternative vehicle to use for transportation. In an effort to address this matter, I contacted both the Nissan Dealership where I purchased the vehicle and Nissan Consumer Affairs. Disappointingly, both parties have informed me that there is nothing they can do at this time and that I must wait. I found it particularly disingenuous when the representative from Consumer Affairs referred to the issue as merely a "foul odor," downplaying the seriousness of the matter. I want to emphasize that this is not just a foul odor; it is a clear and hazardous smell of gasoline. I am reporting this issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to document my experience, raise awareness of the safety risks, and seek assistance in finding a resolution. The presence of gasoline fumes in and around the vehicle is alarming, and I believe immediate action is necessary to address this matter and ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers of the 2023 Nissan Rogue.

Corrective Action:

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

There is a strong smell of gasoline inside the vehicle when driving. There is also the smell of gas coming from the engine when the vehicle is parked in a garage. The dealer stated this is a known problem with the 2023 Rogue but there is no fix to the problem. They just state Nissan is aware of the problem. The smell causes headaches while driving and the fear is it is a fire hazard.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I purchased my 2023 Nissan Rogue SV in Oct of 2022. After a few weeks of parking in the garage I noticed the smell of raw gas in my garage. At about 1000 miles I noticed the smell of raw gas while driving slowly through the neighborhood and while stopped at stop signs and traffic lights. I brought the car back to the Nissan dealership where I purchased it from and explained I was smelling raw gas. The dealership told me there was a break in period and after about 5000 miles I should notice improved gas mileage and the quote "weird" smells should go away. I now have 7,200 miles on the car and the raw gas smell is far worse to the point of causing me headaches and nausea. I cannot park in the garage anymore because it makes even my house smell of gas. I now fear of explosion from gas fumes. I would trade the vehicle for something safer but at this time can not afford to do so.

Potential Consequences:

we were driving west on i26 in nc, when the engine failure light came on, the car bucked and would not go. pulled off road, car did power up but would not go. if this had happened 6 miles later we would have been in constuction with cement barriers on both sides and unable to pull over. semi trucks were going 70 miles an hr and unable to stop. we, along with many other people would have been killed. car was towed to nissan dealership in hendersonville nc. the faulty part was the throttle body in my 2023 nissan rogue with 1400 miles on it. the head mechanic said they just fixed an identical car with same mileage 2 hrs earlier with same problem. also he said they have done this several times before. its been a week now and my car stills sits there because they are unable to find the part. My assumption is they cant get the part because so many cars have failed. now they need to put the same flawed part back on my car to fix it. i am scared to death to drive it. please recall this vehicle asap before many people are killed or hurt. thanks , trying to prevent deaths ,injuries and pain

Potential Consequences:

The smell of gas fumes was inside and outside of the car. I took a CO2 blood test and the CO2 levels came back high. The dealership said a recall was coming out soon. The vehicle supposedly was looked over by the dealership service manager. This began shortly after I bought the vehicle. Didn’t know it was an issue until I saw a lawsuit against the company regarding this matter.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I was driving home from work during 5pm rush hour. I was coming up on a stop light going about 30mph and was trying to slowly come to a stop but noticed that my car wasn't slowing down so I tried to brake harder by pushing on the brake pedal but the pedal resisted my foot pressure so I pressed harder on the pedal but the car took over the braking and started to beep the collision warning. I was not in control of the braking system the car would not stop. The car wasnt allowing me to brake. I heard all kinds of beeping from the car as everything happened so fast. I ended up rear ending someone. Max speed was roughly 30mph and air bag did not deploy.
