Nissan North America, Inc.
NHTSA Campaign: 25V437000 SAFETY RECALL
443.9K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jun 26, 2025
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Potential Risk:
Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the engine control module. For vehicles with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed August 22, 2025. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, around Q4 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

Recall Date: Feb 28, 2024
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2023 Rogue vehicles. The driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners may have been incorrectly manufactured, which can cause the seat belts to not properly restrain occupants. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies," and 210 "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Potential Risk:
Improperly restrained occupants have an increased risk of injury during a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the front seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PD105.

Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

Potential Risk:
An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
FREE Recall Solution:
Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

Defect Description:

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On July 21,2023 while driving at highway speeds the engine started to sputter. Multiple engine failure lights came on. The engine died and I had 1-2 seconds to get the vehicle out of the highway onto the shoulder. I was told the by the dealer that part of the fuel injector may have come loose and damaged the cylinder. The vehicle had only 562 miles on it. I do not have any paperwork on it because almost 2 months later the car is still at the dealer. Today I was informed the new engine they installed also failed because of a bad cylinder.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Potential Consequences:

In April 2023 we had to bring the car in because the seat belt got stuck engaged to where we couldn’t unbuckle it to get our son out of his car seat. We almost had to cut the seat belt to get him out. We barely were able to squeeze him out of it. My wife was driving the car down a highway and there was a full-size leather couch sitting in the middle of the highway. The car’s Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system features never picked up the couch in the middle of the road. My wife had to swerve to the left to try and miss the couch and it clipped the right side of the car damaging the fender flare. Also, while pulling out of our driveway a pedestrian was walking behind the car and the Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection system didn’t pick up the person behind the car. The person had to hit the back of the car for us to stop to keep us from hitting them. While pulling into the driveway where our other vehicle is parked the car’s Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection System wouldn’t let us know that we were about to hit the parked car in our driveway. On June 14, 2023 we brought the car to Ray Brant Nissan to be inspected. The Ray Brant Nissan Technician stated that the Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection system is only supposed to work when you are within 6 inches of the item you are about to hit. the technician took me for a test drive and he said watch this with the car in front of us. The Automatic Emergency Braking System did not brake for the car and he had to slam on the brakes so we didn’t hit the car. So, he then stated that the car in front of us was too small. I reached out to Nissan Consumer Affairs and the lady named Tatiana called me back and stated that she contacted Ray Brant before she called me and as far as she is concerned it’s working the way it is supposed to and she stands by the Nissan Dealer Ray Brant and hung up on me.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I took the car in to the dealership to have the oil changed. After they finished, they informed me that the oil had been leaking from the oil pan drain plug due to it being stripped. They told me that because the oil pan was made of a "composite material" that it was extremely easy to strip the drain plug and crack the oil pan due to the material that it was made of. Furthermore, this was only the second oil change of the car's lifetime (less than 10,000 miles.) They also told me that this was a common issue with other drivers of this particular model. They replaced the oil pan under warranty. However, I am extremely concerned about the longevity and safety of this oil pan. If any uninformed mechanic were to change the oil, it could lead to a massive oil leak that could cause the car to stall while on the road.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

While driving down the highway the engine started to shake violently. Barely got the vehicle pulled over before the engine locked up tight. Had we not been in the right line and close to the soft shoulder, the vehicle could have locked up and stopped in the middle of the highway with cars doing 70mph behind us. Vehicle was towed to dealer and main bearing/rod bearing material was found in the oil and oil filter. In the time the vehicle has been in the dealer waiting for a new engine to come off back order, 2 more of the same year make, model and engine configuration has come into the dealer with the same problem. This is information obtain from the dealer. Nissan is not telling the dealer the cause of the problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Brand new car, picked up July 19 2023, 1st issue) July 22, 2023: 3 Days after i picked up my car, went for a long drive to Phoenix AZ from Tucson AZ. Parked in a corner mall for an hour, drove out from parking lot and we smelled strong gas odor. Checked A/C recirculation and it is set to RECIRCULATION. Drove for a couple miles and it was gone. 2nd issue) July 25, 2023. Going to work, already driven 1 and half miles away from my house. My A/C was set to 72c in Auto and on Sync, never changed it to anything else. My A/C Screen randomly shuts off and turned off the whole a/c system including fan. I it automatically resets and turned on after 1-2 seconds and it was defaulted to 75c with Sync off.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

Monday, June 17, 2023 at approximately 9:10 am I was driving my 4 month Nissan Rogue 2023 on 91N in Connecticut near exit 23/24 in traffic in the 2nd lane in 4 total under speed limit during the end of rush hour. My sunroof without warning exploded. It was terrifying and I believed it was a plane, or a explosive truck blowing up. My ears rang for minutes and it was so difficult not to duck and hide or flee my automobile. I had no idea what happened. It was traumatizing and thought my tire at first blew out or engine was going to have flames expel from it. I almost pulled over, but thought it was safer to get off exit 24 Wethersfield. I was stunned when the entire sunroof of the drivers seat and passenger seat exploded out. There were minimal small pieces around the perimeter, but the entire glass was gone as if it flew up and out. Luckily, I had no passengers and my roof was shut with no glass exposed that morning. Almost always I allow the sun to shine in, but forgot my sunglasses. I brought it to the dealership immediately and waiting to hear the outcome. I can’t get out of my head the anxiety of how loud the explosion was. I am shocked it has happened to many other models and several cases of my car. I have seen dangerous glass fall inside of cars. I feel so fortunate I didn’t create an accident by how distracted and terrifying it was. Just because no one has died because of an explosion of a sunroof should not warrant a closed case. It was the scariest thing I ever experienced and am afraid for my passengers safety in the future.

Potential Consequences:

When using the backup camera, the screen will turn black while the car is in motion. This happens every time I drive my car. I have taken the car to the dealership I purchased it from twice, and have been told that they cannot duplicate the issue. They say that Nissan has to send an update via flash drive for my car to download. In my last visit, my paperwork stated "Nissan still has not released an update for radio system". This has been a problem since I purchased the car in 11/2022, and has gotten worse over time.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

Potential Consequences:

Front collision and rear collision components went out and have been replaced once already. These components are now failing again. The back up camera goes out in the middle of me backing out which could cause collision with another object or person. The front collision comes on while driving when there are no objects in front of me. All issues have been confirmed by the dealer and replaced once but now I have been waiting on parts to fix again and it has been over a month. Each time I take the vehicle in the parts are on back order. I have only owned the vehicle since October 31, 2022, so 7 months.

Potential Consequences:

The following message has shown up twice on my vehicle's information system. Warning Engine Malfunction Power reduced Service Now The first time this happened was about 2 weeks ago, around June 2nd. The car was towed into the dealership but they couldn't find anything wrong. Then yesterday, June 21, 2023 I had the car serviced at the dealer for it's first oil change. The car was purchased on Jan, 13, 2023 and has about 3800 miles on it. The engine warning up again on June 22, 2023 at about 3:00PM after it was started up. When this warning occurs, the cars power is reduced and the car can't go any faster than about 5 miles per hour. Very dangerous if this happens on a highway. I was fortunate that both times this has happened near my house and I drove the car back home at that reduced speed.
