Nissan North America, Inc.
NHTSA Campaign: 21V169000 SAFETY RECALL
36.1K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Mar 11, 2021
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Altima and 2018-2021 Titan vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.

Potential Risk:
Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 11, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC798.
Additional Details:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Recall Date: Sep 12, 2019
Safety Issue:

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Potential Risk:
The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

While Driving in normal Driving conditions, The Auto at 30 mph will Rev the RPMS up to as much as 5000 rpm before the Transmission will catch and accelerate loosing the ability to accelerate on demand when needed such as merging on to a Highway of speeds of 55 mph or higher. This behavior happens almost every single time acceleration is demanded and is not due to a lack of ATF fluid in the transmission. As the vehcile has done this after The local Service center of nissan in my area had just done the 20k mile check up. This has been on going and constant behavior since I purchased This nissan Titan in 2021. Truck currently has 35k, and has had all service suggestions done. This is a danger to my family and myself as lack of power can cause extreme danagers when you are trying to gain speed to merge onto a busy highway and you are running out of roadway to gain speed and you have to use the emergency lane to have access to safe area to gain enough speed to safely merge. This is a well known issue with this model, as I have been seeing other owners complain for sometime online in forums, when I researched if anyone else had this issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2018 Nissan Titan. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, several unknown warning lights started to illuminate off and on. The contact then stated that while the vehicle was in the idle position, the RPMS revved, increased, and decreased continuously. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical harness needed to be replaced. The battery and accelerator pedal was replaced. However, the dealer declined to repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V495000 (Electrical System) though the VIN was included, and stated that the harness tampered. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Defect Description:

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

I placed my 2018 truck in park and left it running. Once I had retrieved my items from the truck, I stepped onto the running board and pushed the button to turn the truck off. It suddenly lunged forward, throwing me to the driveway. The truck proceeded to roll down my driveway, rolling over my foot, and across the street; hitting my neighbor's van. I sustained multiple injuries from being thrown to the driveway, my truck's front end was severely damaged, and my neighbor's van sustained damages. I feel all of this happened due to the recall of the 2020-2021 Nissan Titan for a roll away issue. I am out of pocket for deductibles to get my truck repaired and had to use my insurance to pay the claim for my truck and the damaged van. I feel this all due to a defect in the 2018 Nissan Titan Crew Max, that is evident in the recall of the 2021-2022 Nissan Titan.

Defect Description:

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

Attempted to shift vehicle into four wheel drive high mode. 4WD error message appeared in center display, as well as traction control and ABS warning indicators. 4WD was inoperative. Attempted to shift into four wheel drive high multiple times, with no success. Not sure if the traction control and ABS warning indicators are actually indicating that these systems are inoperative or not. These warnings stay on after switching back to 2WD mode, and are only extinguished after the engine is shut off and restarted. I believe the lack of 4WD can be considered a safety issue depending on the weather conditions and where the vehicle is located when this failure occurs. Dealer confirmed issue, and is replacing the transfer case, under warranty. I did a bit of research on an internet forum covering this vehicle, and found that others have had this same issue, and it has been identified as a broken shift fork in the transfer case.
