The steering column on the affected vehicles may have been improperly machined, and as a result, turning the steering wheel may have no effect on the direction of the wheels.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING AND INTERIOR ELECTRONICS REMAIN ON. SUBARU IS AWARE OF THIS SHIFT PLATE SENSOR MALFUNCTION IS PRESENT IN 2016 LEGACY AND 2017 FORRESTER MODELS, AS FAR AS I KNOW, BUT HAVE NOT RECALLED THEM.
