SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

Rear Brake and Rotors- At about 14,500 miles the vehicle started making this screeching noise. Rear brake pads and rotors wearing out prematurely. There is no indication through the health reports sent by VW or Carfax (VW affiliated) that is nothing wrong (all healthy). I took to dealership. The customer service rep at Rudolph VW in El Paso, TX told me that "the front brakes were great and the rear brakes were at about 6/10 and to come back in a few months before the 20,000 miles warranty ran out. That VW was aware about the supplier but could not do anything at this point". This is a safety issue and its a Warranty covered issue as is under 20,000 miles. I never had a vehicle with this issue. I fear for my life. I am at about 16,500. I don't know I f am going to make it to 20,000. Another issue I have with this vehicle is that the engine light came on as I was driving. I called it in and they simply said oh yes that's usual. This is a new vehicle! I am about to take it in this week.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The car stalls and cannot propel itself forward. Two dealerships have unsuccessfully attempted to replace and fix the fuel injection pump, sensors and harnesses. The car has been to Palmetto 57 Volkswagen (Miami, FL) and Jim Ellis Volkswagen (Kennesaw, GA) dealer service centers 5 times since the car was purchased on October 7, 2023. Today is December 1, 2023. I've been told three times that the engineers at the VW National Headquarters have been informed of the problem and are working on fix. The car is still at the Palmetto 57 service center and cannot be driven due to lack of a repair solution.

Warning light for coolant appeared around 11K mile mark, took it in to dealership where service department said there were no leaks and added coolant. After several months, warning light appeared again, only this time I bought coolant from dealership and topped it off myself. They said it's normal for this to happen. 3 months later, the warning light is back on and a different dealership is now saying the head gasket needs to be replaced.

AIR BAGS

Potential Consequences:

On two occasions our Taos, when put in drive rolled backwards on a slight grade when the brake was released. The dealership says they cannot replicate the problem and suggests waiting 1.5 to 3 seconds after shifting to drive before releasing the brake. I don't think this is standard procedure, at least in any car I've ever driven and I've never heard of such a procedure in any car. In addition, the airbag light on the dash is currently on. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a damaged wire under the passenger seat. I inspected the wire and found a light gauge wire extending from the floorboard to the bottom of the passender seat, which is damaged, for reasons unknown, however is glaringly unprotected and vulnerable.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Potential Consequences:

There is a serious acceleration problem. When trying to enter into traffic either turning left or right or going straight from stopped position, there is serious lag/hesitation to the vehicle accelerating. After pressing the throttle for a couple of seconds with very little movement, it will then jerk and squeal the tires. There have been many times when we have come close to being hit by this problem while pulling into traffic. I have had this vehicle back to the dealer twice. The first time they said there was no issue. The second time, I talked to the service manager (a personal friend) and he admitted there was an issue with acceleration. However, Volkswagen had no solution. No one else has looked at this vehicle. No warning lamps or lights. I have another appointment with my dealer for the latest recall and will address this with them again. Please, please, please discuss this with Volkswagen and get them to fix this issue. Other than the lag/hesitation in acceleration, I very much like this vehicle.

Corrective Action:

There is a serious acceleration problem. When trying to enter into traffic either turning left or right or going straight from stopped position, there is serious lag/hesitation to the vehicle accelerating. After pressing the throttle for a couple of seconds with very little movement, it will then jerk and squeal the tires. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I came to a stop at a red light and the engine turned over to preserve energy, once the light turned green and I attempted to gas, the car would not move. I turned off and on repeatedly to try to get the car to go but with no success, I was causing traffic for at least 5 minutes while I had no clue what else to do but wait until it wanted to turn over. Also on two separate occasions my screen would glitch and turn off, stopping my music, and terminating GPS. Both times I was able to record for my records.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Head gasket failure which leads to coolant leak. Engine failure possible. After doing some research I found that the 2022 VW Taos' all have this in common around 13,000 miles. My vehicle will be going to the shop tomorrow morning but through my research I found that people are waiting weeks for head gasket replacements because they're on backorder due to the volume of replacements. Check engine light came on maybe 3 weeks before coolant lights as well as a lag in drive pick up.
