POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The car completely shut off while driving it. This was not the first time this happened. The EPC and check engine lights are constantly on. I have brought the car several times to try to fix the problem, nothing works. I have also had to add radiator fluid twice. The car was sold to me during a stop sale that I had no idea about. I tried going through VW for a buy back that they were initially going to grant and then changed their mind once a fix for the recall was announced. Horrific company to deal with.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

Vehicle has been having accelerator issues. Car has not been registering acceleration. This has happened on 6 separate occasions. The first occurrence happened when I was at an intersection and I took my foot off the brake and put my foot on the gas pedal. No acceleration besides the torque received when not applying gas (1-3mph). This lasted for about 7-10 seconds and then I jolted forward due to gas pedal being pressed down and car registering the gas. The other occurrences have happened when I start my car in the morning. I will start my car and apply gas. The car does not register the gas, it moves slowly from the torque converter. This lasts about 7-8 seconds of this slow moving. My foot is applied to the gas pedal, but car doesn't register it. After about 8 seconds, my car will register my foot being on the gas pedal. It goes from about 1 mph to 12-17 mph in 2 seconds. When it does, the gas pedal is not pressed 1/2 day down, 3/4 way down or all the way down to the floor. The gas pedal is pressed very gently. I learned from the first time in the intersection, not to press the gas pedal down all the way due to the aggressive acceleration of the car at an unknown time. The date of the intersection occurrence I did not record due to me thinking it was a one off situation. After the second time I started documenting each time this happened. Temperatures have varied from when this happens, it does not happen when it is a certain temperature out. I have driven my car consistently and does not happen when leaving my car sit for long periods of time. I have had regular maintenance on my car. Date of events this has happened 01/08 01/16 01/17 01/29 01/31 This is very concerning to me as I am afraid my car will hit an object or a human without my control. This car was bought new from the dealership and is less than 3 years old. I have reported this problem to the local dealership and have an appt in February.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

I purchased my vehicle new on 12/31/21. The vehicle currently has 19,200 miles. The coolant light went on so I took it to the VW dealership as it was due for an oil change and tire rotation soon. The dealer indicated that the head gasket is leaking internally. The parts are on back order and there is no eta. From what I have researched regarding other 2022 VW Taos owners experiences with head gasket issues, it could be 30-90 days before I get my vehicle back (which the dealership has indicated is true). There appears to be a host of other issues that people are having with their 2022 VW Taos including rear brakes wearing way too fast and other engine issues. I have no concerns with how the dealership is managing this issue, however, based on my research, I am surprised a recall has not yet been issued. I am concerned about the lifetime health of my vehicle and the issues I may to deal with after the warranty ends, if the engine is already requiring major repairs after only 2 years and less than 20,000 miles.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

Fuel System: The car hesitates when you push the gas, and then will suddenly go with a jolt. That is unsafe as you are turning on to road and when you push the gas-you do not move for a few seconds which could cause an accident. There are no warning lights regarding this, however, lots of the same exact complaints for this model on the internet. Engine: The coolant goes low, and the dealership says it needs a new head gasket replaced, however, was told to continue to drive the car until the part comes in which is on back order for months. Electrical: Lights come on telling me that my tire is low, when tire is not low. My oil light came on saying to reduce the oil level. Dealership just turned the light off and called it good. I worry that something is wrong, but the car does not give accurate safe information. The carplay system has to be restarted all the time due to connecting issues, and map not working. Additionally, the car had to have rear breaks replaced at only 27,000k miles.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I took our 2022 VW Taos in for 15,000 mile service. The service advisor said the rear brakes were at 3mm and need to be replaced along with rotors. The brakes shouldn't be this low for the mileage on the car. Apparently, there was a time frame to repair the brakes in 2022 when we made the purchase and VW didn't inform us of the brake issue at the time. VW service says it'll cost over $900 to replace pads and rotors.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

I built this car brand new at the end of 2021, received in February 2022. At 20,000 miles, my car was already noted to have rear brakes that were substandard and significantly more worn than is normal for wear and tear on a brand new vehicle. At this time, I was not informed of the problem, and it was led to continue until I went in for standard 30k maintenance. When I went in for the 30k maintenance, i was told my rear brakes would already need to be replaced. There is no brand new car that should need brakes replaced at 30k. Volkswagen has extended their warranty on the brakes to 24k, but since my car was out of that mileage range, it is not covered by the warranty. The brake warranty should be extended to 40k miles - as even with hard use, you still shouldn't need your brakes replaced until at least 50k.

When this happens I have to brake, put the car in Parking, press the off button, press it again to turn the car on, put the car on Drive, and the I can keep going. This is extremely dangerous, and have almost been hit several times. I don’t feel safe driving my car anymore. I brought my car to the VW dealer and they said there is nothing wrong with the car.
