Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
This is a complaint in regards to the trailer breaking system in my certified pre-owned 2017 Chevy Silverado that I purchased in April of this year, 2024. I purchased this truck in particular for its high ratings in safety and towing capabilities. (April- May 2024) While towing a 22ft trailer from Virginia to Washington state, there were several moments where the “service trailer braking system” alert would appear on the dash. Driving on the interstate for days on end is twice as stressful when you have to wonder if your trailer brakes are reliable. If the trailer brakes were to suddenly stop working it would be dangerous for me and my passengers, as well as those around me on the road. (Sept- Oct 2024) We aren’t towing a trailer anymore, but the “service trailer braking system” light has been going off every couple minutes.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I am filing a complaint regarding an electrical fire in the junction box of my 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500. The issue began when the front passenger side marker light would not turn off. I disconnected the battery overnight to troubleshoot the problem. However, when I reconnected the battery the next morning, an electrical fire occurred in the fuse junction box under the hood. At the same time, the engine unexpectedly attempted to turn over and start on its own. I immediately disconnected the battery again to stop the fire. Upon inspection, I found that several wires, plugs, and the top half of the junction box had sustained significant damage.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
Engine shuts down on its own causing steering wheel to jerk and almost locks preventing control. Has been doing this for three weeks and is now getting much worse. Seems to do when making slow speed sharp turn. Almost hit another car in intersection yesterday due to steering control loss. I have seen numerous mentions of this on the internet but seems GM does not have a fix. The truck is now dangerous to drive as it can completely shut down in the middle of an intersection.

Potential Consequences:
I bought my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST used almost 2 years ago. I noticed shortly after buying it that the truck will stall in low gear then lunge forward unexpectedly, it didn't do it all the time just once in a while. Problem is it seems to be happening more frequently and varies in severity. I've asked the local GM dealerships about this issue several times while having it in for service or oil changes. But was told each time that its common with that transmission and nothing to be concerned about, the problem is that I am. I recently started doing research on this and noticed I'm not the only one having these same issues. I'm filing a report as it worries me that a vehicle I'm making payments on is acting this way. I'm also concerned that with the truck in drive and moving, without warning then lunges forward could cause myself or someone else serious injury or worse. This I believe is not the fault of the owner/driver, but GM itself. This problem is not an isolated issue, but one shared by many consumers, me included.

experienced several years of misfire problems , replaced spark plugs twice which seemed to fix the problem short term. while out of my home state(retraining for a new job in the Airforce) the misfire became significantly worse and made the truck undrivable. brought the truck to a local mechanic and they told me that I had bad misfires on the AFM/DOD cylinders and need to replace them all. chevy confirmed the diagnosis also stated there not going to offer coverage for this know issue. this know failure has costed me 15k in total costs when GM has know about this for years and could have fixed it before costing me so much money . I've also received no help from the chevy dealership or corporate regarding this know problem and I've been told its going to be an out of pocket repair and there's noting they will dop to help.

Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45-50 MPH and then attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle started pulling to the left, indicating the passenger’s side brake caliper had seized. The ABS warning light, and Stability Control failure warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Mavis Tires and Brakes body shop where brake pads and rotors were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to Mavis Tires and Brakes, and the two calipers, rotors, and brake pads were replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving approximately 41-60 MPH and hauling a trailer and attempting to stop at a stop light. The contact stated that the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately. The contact used an excessive amount of pressure to depress the brake pedal. The vehicle began pulling to the right and eventually coasted to a stop. The contact pulled into a nearby parking space where the brakes began smoking, the vehicle overheated, and the radiator fractured. The contact waited for the brakes to cool down and the smoke to dissipate before slowly driving to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the water pump had failed. The contact stated that the radiator had fractured, and 8 valves were damaged. The dealer linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure where it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 175,000.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
Recently had to have the transmission replaced on my truck. I was driving on an on-ramp onto a highway and my transmission would not change gears once reaching 50mph, where the speed limit was 70mph, causing me to almost be rear-ended. This was without warning, no lights came on and no other conditions were noticed prior to this event. I pulled off the highway and the transmission was making hard shuddering noises. I had a dealership look it over and they determined I needed a full transmission replacement. Upon researching online, this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle.
