ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

In August 2024 my 6.2 Chevrolet Silverado motor blew up. I was driving uphill when all the sudden it made a very loud sound like I had floored it and I had not. The engine revved really, really really high red line then it flashed across my dash to turn off the motor and the vehicle just shut itself off.. It left me stranded in the middle of the road and had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealer. It took them approximately 3 weeks to diagnose it as a catastrophic engine failure. And several more weeks to replace the motor, radiator and coolant lines. There was engine pieces in the radiator. Chevrolet refused to reimburse me my full cost of the rental that I had to get until they approved me a loaner..

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On 4-25-2025 while driving the car shutoff twice losing power on both occasions. The first time I was able to start the truck; however, the second time it happened I lost all power and drifted to a stop. Vehicle info said to put the car in neutral and press the start button. Car failed to start while drifting and when I was able to get the truck to a complete stop, the truck could never start thus requiring it to be towed to the dealership. Truck has a little over 22000 miles. Check engine light came on after the second incident.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I have had an intermittent, aggressive engine knock and rough idle since i bought the truck. I'm assuming it has to do with the collapsing lifter issue from the fuel management system. when I bring it to the dealership (paradise chevrolet ventura) , they tell me that they cannot replicate the issue and that if there is no check engine light on the dash, there is nothing they can do. I am concerned for my families safety and my truck becoming an issue after my warranty runs out. my chief complaint has been documented by the dealership multiple times and I have video of me replicating the issue.

On the freeway transmission downshifted to first, loud bang and skidding to limp mode vehicles behind us skidded off highway and others changed lane causing chaos yelling screaming angry drivers, not a great situation, I had the recall done, it was just a software update that detects a problem and puts it into dangerous limp mode at high speed.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

At 383 miles the engine started a ticking noise. Around the same mileage the transmission would also start make hard down shifts, especially into 1st gear. At around 27000 miles transmission would also shutter at light loads and low speeds. Attempted to take it to dealer 2 different times, but they had no loaner cars and needed it for more than a day. At milage 28,251 I drove to the dealership an insisted that it needed to be fixed. They were able to provide loaner car at that time. Engine ticking noise was cylinder number 7 lifter stuck closed. Transmission was unable to be checked due to engine needing repair. The Dealer replace all 8 lifters on drivers side of engine. Upon the fix they test drove for the transmission problem and noticed noise coming from the water pump. Replaced the water pump and was told transmission needed a new valve body. Those parts were on back order for over 3 months. They found a service bulletin to reprogram the transmission so they could release the truck to me instead of hold months for parts. After more than 30 days in shop picked up truck. After driving around for a few hours noticed engine noise again but different. Like a bearing? Dealer had already closed so took it back the next day. Couple days later was informed that the head gasket was installed wrong? REALLY. Went to the dealer's new car manager and asked to be traded out of it and into a new truck. Dealer offered me 10,000 below blue book for trade in! They didn't even want their own product back. Picked up truck couple days later and drove straight to Toyota and traded it in I needed a reliable truck. The dealer's service department was great with the problem. But it's the product that really [XXX] and had the potential to be very dangerous. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On [XXX] around [XXX], I was driving my Silverado down [XXX] near the Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque, NM. Without warning, the engine died in the center lane of this busy highway. I turned on the emergency flashers, then while trying to call for emergency help on my phone, I stood behind the truck, waving traffic to the side lanes in an effort to prevent being rear ended. After about 10 minutes, luckily, an emergency fire department truck spotted my distress and doubled back, parked behind me and engaged his emergency lights. A good Samaritan stopped an attempted to toe strap me to the shoulder of the road. However, the poor design of this truck didn't allow me to put the transmission in neutral unless the vehicle is running. So, after about an hour, the tow truck driver was able to drag the Silverado on the back of his flatbed. After my truck was at the dealer for a week, they were able to determine that the engine main bearings seized and spun a couple of rod bearings. This is a well maintained vehicle, with the oil changes done on time and documented at the dealership. My Silverado has a 6.2 liter V 8.engine with only 21,532 miles on it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I turned on the emergency flashers, then while trying to call for emergency help on my phone, I stood behind the truck, waving traffic to the side lanes in an effort to prevent being rear ended. ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

While driving my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 with the 6.2L engine (approx. 22,000 miles) on a busy interstate in another state, the vehicle suddenly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. I was towing a 5,000-pound camper and had my wife and three children in the truck. We were traveling on a slight incline when the truck unexpectedly disengaged. There were no warning lights, no messages, and no sounds indicating engine failure—just a sudden loss of drive. All displays remained illuminated, but I had no power to the wheels. By the grace of God, I was able to maneuver to the median before the truck and camper came to a complete stop. It was a terrifying and dangerous situation that could have resulted in a major accident given the speed of traffic, the weight of the trailer, and the total lack of warning. The truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer across the state line. After running diagnostics, I was told the engine had failed and would need to be replaced under warranty. However, I have yet to receive a clear explanation of what exactly failed internally. I was informed that a replacement engine is back-ordered by several months, leaving me without a vehicle and unsure when it will be repaired. The incident has not yet been investigated by the manufacturer, insurance, or law enforcement. This experience was frightening not just because of the mechanical failure, but because it happened with zero indication. I hope others don’t have to go through something like this. I understand thousands of these trucks may never see a failure like this—but for us, it happened suddenly, with our entire family on board, and it nearly ended in disaster.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

While driving going 40 mph a ‘Brake System Failure’ warning came on and brakes stopped working. Thankfully there were no cars ahead allowing me to continue until the car came to a stop. At that point I engaged the emergency brake and put the car in park and out of gear. I then had the truck towed to a Chevy dealership. I still do not have a response to what the issue is.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

At 19k miles the transmission had a shifting problem and went into limp mode forcing a deceleration while on a highway. Had to unhook the battery and hook it back up to clear the code to get to a safe point for towing. Had to do this 3 times. Once at the dealer they could not recreate the problem. One week later it went into limp mode again. Took it to the deal and was informed that the valve body in the transmission would need to be replace. There is a supply shortage on parts and I am now without a truck for who knows how long.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

During gear down-shift the rear wheels briefly lock up. This event can be duplicated easily at around 45mph, by slowing due to uphill grade or slowing traffic, then upon normal application of throttle to resume course the transmission shifts to next lowest gear (3 or 4, not sure) there occurs a brief and sudden horrendous jerk as the rear wheels lock & skid. The event lasts less than 1/4 sec, but happens multiple times per day as that speed/load condition is frequent. On occasion, the same can occur in a parking lot ~10mph, but isn't as violent. The first occurrence was at mileage 38,000; the vehicle now has 45,000 miles. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA Recall No 24V-797, which does not include my vehicle's production year.

POWER TRAIN

Potential Consequences:

The symptoms since the beginning of 2024 have been that when braking between 7 and 10 mph, you feel a bump or a skid, and when you stop, the engine shakes for a moment as if it's going to shut off. This happens with the Auto Stop-Start off. A sudden braking moment can affect the vehicle's performance, making it difficult to control and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when it comes to a pickup truck that may have a trailer with cargo or objects in the bed that can be thrown. The trailer can even leave the road, losing control of the car. In 2024, I took the truck to the place where I bought it, Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland, for a checkup. I explained all the symptoms to my advisor, just as I do here. I had to take it to wait for a loaner. A few days later, I took it back, and they had it for almost a week. When I picked it up, my advisor told me everything was fine. When I left the dealership, I found the same symptoms, so I went back and told him the car was still doing the same thing, and he told me it was normal. After much insistence, he got in the car with me to show him the problem, and the car did it several times, but according to him, it was normal. Now, in 2025, a week ago I took it to Miami Lakes Auto Mall to get checked out with the same symptoms and explanation. I started investigating why that couldn't possibly be normal car operation. They found they had to replace the torque converter and valve body because they found an excessive amount of metal in the transmission. The valve body is on back order indefinitely at all dealerships, so I had to take the car in that condition. Before taking it, I spoke with the manager and GM to ask them to give me a car until they fixed mine because it wasn't right for me to drive the car like that. But they didn't offer me anything. I took it back to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland and they told me they were going to change the transmission and torque converter and conveniently they didn't have to change the valve.
