Recall Date: Sep 12, 2024
Safety Issue:

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Potential Risk:
Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

The symptoms since the beginning of 2024 have been that when braking between 7 and 10 mph, you feel a bump or a skid, and when you stop, the engine shakes for a moment as if it's going to shut off. This happens with the Auto Stop-Start off. A sudden braking moment can affect the vehicle's performance, making it difficult to control and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when it comes to a pickup truck that may have a trailer with cargo or objects in the bed that can be thrown. The trailer can even leave the road, losing control of the car. In 2024, I took the truck to the place where I bought it, Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland, for a checkup. I explained all the symptoms to my advisor, just as I do here. I had to take it to wait for a loaner. A few days later, I took it back, and they had it for almost a week. When I picked it up, my advisor told me everything was fine. When I left the dealership, I found the same symptoms, so I went back and told him the car was still doing the same thing, and he told me it was normal. After much insistence, he got in the car with me to show him the problem, and the car did it several times, but according to him, it was normal. Now, in 2025, a week ago I took it to Miami Lakes Auto Mall to get checked out with the same symptoms and explanation. I started investigating why that couldn't possibly be normal car operation. They found they had to replace the torque converter and valve body because they found an excessive amount of metal in the transmission. The valve body is on back order indefinitely at all dealerships, so I had to take the car in that condition. Before taking it, I spoke with the manager and GM to ask them to give me a car until they fixed mine because it wasn't right for me to drive the car like that. But they didn't offer me anything. I took it back to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland and they told me they were going to change the transmission and torque converter and conveniently they didn't have to change the valve.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

Engine died when I was traveling at highway speed. Not warning lights no check engine lights. Was able to stear to the shoulder but vehicle woulnd't start or go into nuetral. Thankfully on a rural road so was able to get out of danger. Had this happened in a busy environment may not have been so forturnate. Dealer determined that 2 of the connecting rods bent and caused catostrophic engine damage. Since this happened I have read about 100's of other 6.2L gasoline engines having similar issues. This isn't a random occurance and Chevrolet has writted technical memos explaining the issue for thier dealers.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Potential Consequences:

I was in stop and go traffic, the truck engine turned off I could not get it to crank. I was stuck in the middle of a busy road for at least an hour until the tow truck driver got there. Since the truck has electric shifting for the transmission, I could not get the truck into neutral to at-least push it to a safe place. I was informed by the dealership that there is no neutral override unless the vehicle is running. The shifting and fuel system “fuel module” failure is a know problem from GM and need to be recalled. If this would have happened on the interstate I don’t think the outcome would be great. The truck is a little over 1 year old and has under 15,000 miles. Very dangerous situation.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

I was on Expressway with the cruise set on 72 Miles an hour I heard a loud clunk the engine, of course shut off I go down to the gearshift in the console. It said neutral so close it over to the side of the road got stopped as soon as our momentum stopped and we are completely at a standstill the truck put itself in park. I then tried to restart it and it wouldn’t do anything. I contacted OnStar state in my situation and after multiple conversations with them, I disconnected the phone call and contacted my own towing service because we were 51 miles from our home and they would not tell the people there unless I paid for over half of it. They would only tow it to the nearest dealer. We have been a free customer since 1997. We or a family owned Electrical contacting business. My truck is my office. I’m in 90% of my day. I elected to take it to the dealer where we purchased it, and we purchased a good portion of our vehicles over the years and helps that it would be repaired in a timely manner.

The tail gate on my 2023 Silverado has started to open on its own both while driving and while stopped as well as attempting to open every 3-5 minutes while the vehicle is off. I contacted Chevrolet after I saw there was open recalls for this exact issue to see if my truck was covered with this recall and to my chagrin it is not. But from what I read, this is the exact issue that other drivers of Silverados between the years of 2020-2024 have been experiencing.

ENGINE

Potential Consequences:

On 3/1/2025, while driving, my vehicle became unresponsive and inoperable . My vehicle stopped at the intersection in a turn lane. The vehicle engine turned off and a check engine light turned on in the dashboard. There were no sounds or indicators prior to the event. All of the controls became inoperable and unresponsive. When I tried to restart the vehicle it would not turn over. I was unable to shift the vehicle out of park. The dash board showed the message “Conditions Not Correct for Shift”. I tried several different corrective actions and referred to the owners manual but I was unable to do anything. The owners manual didn’t specify how to shift the vehicle when it is not running. I had to call a tow truck because we were in the intersection and it presented a concern for safety for ourselves and others the tow truck tried resetting the vehicle, jumping it, and looked for the manual shift override but were unsuccessful. They pulled my truck onto the tow truck and took it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. When we arrived at the dealership the tow truck driver consulted with the dealership personnel and were still unable to determine any cause or how to manually shift the vehicle into neutral. My truck has the 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine with only 15466 miles. The dealer confirmed engine failure and is in the process of ordering a new engine. There is no known ETA for the engine because it has become a national issue. I have also read multiple encounters of other owners have multiple engines fail and replaced.
