Defect Description:
SUSPENSION
Potential Consequences:
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH and hauling a small box trailer, the vehicle slid several times. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road temporarily and resumed driving; however, the failure recurred several times. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that towing assistance could be provided for the vehicle but not for the box trailer. The contact decided to continue driving the vehicle to the residence while the manufacturer remained on the phone with the contact. The contact stated that upon test driving the vehicle the following day, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer removed the valve body of the transmission per the manufacturers' instructions. The dealer then informed the contact that metal shavings were found in the transmission pan. The dealer replaced the transmission. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the rear end of the vehicle continued to make an abnormal humming sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer determined that the rear end of the vehicle needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH on a wet road, the vehicle inadvertently slid off the road and drove on the grassy area covered with snow. The contact's wife steered the vehicle and missed a ditch; however, the rear passenger's side of the vehicle and the rear passenger's side tire struck a pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver did not sustain any injury. The driver exited and inspected the vehicle. The driver was able to continue driving. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

Potential Consequences:
The sound on the Infotainment system, which controls the radio, apple car play and phone calls cuts out randomly and will not turn back on until the truck is turned off for 10 minutes or you pull over and park and do a reset in safe mode. This is a hazard as you can not make emergency call while driving or if you are on an emergency call while driving you are forced to go from hands free to holding your cell phone while driving. I reach out to Chevrolet several and brought the truck to 2 different dealerships and it is still not fixed.

Defect Description:
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Consequences:
Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Potential Consequences:
As also reported by another owner in NHTSA ID Number: 11602844, I have found several times that while driving on I-80 at or near speed limit with adaptive cruise control on and no traffic, no weather, dry pavement, that the truck suddenly applied the brakes hard. There was nothing on or upcoming in the road, the sides of the road were desert and near the road was clear. Over the course of the past year this has happened probably half a dozen times.

Potential Consequences:
Within weeks of buying the truck the Auto STOP/START quit working. I never gave it much thought until after a service visit and it was again working. I asked the dealer and they said the battery voltage dropped below a set level, turning off the Auto STOP/START. It quit again days later and has never worked again. There is no apparent reset. My battery voltage is normal, I have a REDTIGER F7N 4K Dual Dash Cam running 24/7 but it is drawing 4.5 to 5 watts; the car is rarely left parked for more than a day. I was initially bothered that there was no On/Off for the Auto STOP/START but I am even more frustrated that it is no longer working and no apparent reset short of taking the truck to the dealer for service.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
I have found between the last two oil changes, I have had to add 1-1/2 to 2 quarts of oil. I first thought that maybe the oil was not refilled fully but after the second time I asked the dealer about this and they said that the engine may need up to 2 quarts of oil added between oil changes. SERIOUSLY?! I cannot believe this is normal for a new truck with less than 30,000 miles. There is no leaks in my driveway, no obvious exhaust smoke.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Consequences:
On approximately 6 occasions over the past 12 months, either the right front turn lamp or left front turn lamp failed. Most recently this occurred on 8/27/24. When this happens, the entire front head lamp does not work. A warning on the dash shows as "Check Left/Right Front Turn Lamp" and the audible turn signal click is faster than normal. Turning the truck off for approximately 15 minutes fixes the issue until it returns again at random. Having functioning head lamps and turn signals is critical to safely operating a vehicle.
