ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Experienced sudden engine failure while driving on the interstate. Mileage on the vehicle is 11,635. Engine has been maintained as per manufacturers recommendations. Currently at dealership awaiting engine replacement. Was informed that main locking cap for crankshaft came apart, resulting in a hole in the engine block with sudden loss of oil and oil pressure. Currently replacement engines are not available as GM has had a large number of 6.2 L engines that have similarly failed. Dealer cannot provide information on when replacement will be available.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
On [XXX] at [XXX] while driving at highway speeds (70-75 mph) on [XXX] , I experienced engine failure in my 2024 chevy silerado zr2. Within seconds, the truck began to lose engine power, the check engine light came on, a transmission warning displayed, the truck shook violently and lost electrical power and power steering. I was able to get to the shoulder in less than a minute and the truck shut down completely. After exiting the truck, I observed smoke, the smell of fire and engine oil/ fluids all over the ground. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the engine failing. The sudden loss of power and power steering could have resulted in an accident. The vehicle has been inspected by a certified chevy dealer and they have verbally confirmed engine failure. i have not been provided any documentation or formal updates on the process. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Potential Consequences:
I’ve had 3 occasions of this brand new vehicles front collision avoidance system going off HARD and locking up the brakes. It scared the crap out of me as there was nothing in front of me - if I hadn’t known the truck had automatic collision software - I’d have driven to the Chevy Dealership right then. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The second time it really caught me off guard. The third time (inside 2 months) I realized there is something not right. I reported it to the dealership but they wanted me to trade it in for a new truck. Sorry, no. I just want to report this problem as I’ve seen a recall on other vehicles with 10 speed transmissions. Their shifting problem - is also present in the Chevy Silverado Truck - but it has not impacted my use of….

Defect Description:
ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
While driving on the interstate at 75 MPH, the vehicle lost all motive power. No warning light was illuminated. I pulled over to the right side of the road and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. It was -30 degrees outside and it was dark. I had passengers in my vehicle, and we were stuck with no power or heat on the interstate. The vehicle could not be put into neutral to be moved off the interstate because there was the vehicle would not turn on. This was an extremely unsafe and dangerous situation for me and my passengers. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the engine was not available for replacement. The vehicle is still at the dealership and has been there for 2 months. The approximate failure mileage was approx. 19,000 miles.

ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
My name is [XXX] and I currently own a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Truck with a 6.2 lt motor. On [XXX], my truck failed me at which point it had to be towed by road side assistance to Sun Chevy in Chittenango NY. While at the dealer I was advised that my Truck engine 6.2 is bad that the crank shaft bearing failed and further piston rods failed and it would need to be replaced. Two days following I received a call and was advised by the dealer (Sun Chevy) that GM advised the dealer to rebuild the engine. Once that was completed 10 days later the dealer contacted me and stated that the motor does not sound right and there were further problems. I was also advised by the dealer that this is a known problem with 6.2 motors and GM is aware of it. On (3-14-2025) I was told by Sun Chevy that the 6.2 motors are on backorder and I would have to wait approx 6 to 9 months. This truck is not even 1 year old and this is not acceptable in any way. I am paying on a truck that is not operable. I have always been a faithful Chevy owner however I cannot wait this long after buying a New Truck. I called GM to discuss options moving forward and them replacing my Truck. I can be contacted at [XXX], or [XXX]. According to GM This issue has been assigned a case number and that as far as it has gone. My famiky vacation now has to be cancelled as we were going to be traveling in the Truck and the Dealer stated that the loaner vehicle cannot leave the state. This is a complete mess. Any assistance would be appreciated. Respectfully, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Potential Consequences:
I was driving on [XXX] leaving from Onawa, IA. Up to this point I had not issue or notifications about my vehicle. While driving North bout and having the adaptive cruise control set at 80 MPH, I was in the left lane passing 3 semis in the right lane. After passing the first one, the first semi merged to the left lane following. I was approximately 1/2 passed the next semi when all the sudden my cruise started to slow down. It went from 80 to 78 back to 80, then 80 back to 77 to 80. Suddenly and with no warning the engine completely shut down and I went from 80 - 0 is approx. 100 feet. The semi behind me sounded their horn loudly as they almost hit my rear end before merging over. I had no time to go over to the right shoulder and had to go to the left where the vehicle would not move. I could not move the vehicle off the shoulder as it would not shift to natural. Law enforcement was notified as the safety of the vehicle on the left side of the interstate caused safety issues. ENGINE
Potential Consequences:
Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter engine. At the time of the incident, my truck had only 17,000 miles on it and had received the two necessary oil changes as recommended. On Thursday, [XXX] while driving northbound on [XXX] in Houston, Texas, my truck unexpectedly lost power while in motion. Fortunately, I was in one of the right lanes and was able to push it to the side, but not before nearly being struck by another vehicle. Several cars had to swerve to avoid my disabled truck, and I truly believe that I could have been seriously injured or worse due to this mechanical failure. After having my truck towed to the dealership, I was informed that the engine had completely locked up and needed a full replacement. However, despite my immediate action to get the issue resolved, I have now been without a vehicle since [XXX], and as of today, March 10, 2025, there is still no replacement engine available. I have been told that the 6.2-liter engines are on backorder for 5 to 6 months because this issue is happening to so many vehicles. This raises serious concerns: If so many of these engines are failing, why has there been no recall issued? How is it acceptable for GMC to sell vehicles with a known defect that can lead to life-threatening situations on the road? Why am I still paying a $1,300 monthly car note for a vehicle I have not been able to drive in over three months? This is not just a case of vehicle reliability; this is a severe safety hazard. My truck failed suddenly in moving traffic, and based on the widespread engine failures, it appears that this could happen to many other drivers as well, potentially leading to catastrophic accidents. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these engine failures immediately and take appropriate action, including issuing a recall if warranted. I would appreciate an update on INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA)
